Yeah, I guess. But we can talk about other things. The cappuccino foxes for example. 🙂

You can discuss the election all you want - just not any of the results before the polls close in BC. No posting New Bruswick returns before 22:00 Eastern.

I can’t see how they can possibly monitor this on discussion boards like this. Blogs are one thing, but open boards like this are pretty much impossible to monitor. There’s simply too many of them.

In the age of the internet, this law is ridiculous and impossible to inforce.

Thanks for this clarification, Lapsed.

Reminds me of a Stephen Leacock story about a previous age.

I guess you may not be, but that does not mean I cannot. I am not subject to those laws:D

I wonder, is this a case of;

Today… Canada

Tomorrow…THE WORLD

It will be impossible to police this. It’s only the mainstream media that would get in trouble. There aren’t many of us that would be privy to early results from the Atlantic time zone anyway…

When do we start “Blog Free Canada”?😃 Is it Midnight Atlantic Time?

The prohibition is specifically against posting election results before 22:00 Eastern time when polls close in BC. So there won’t be anything illegal for Canadians to post until results start getting reported in the Atlantic time zone after their polls close (either 18:00 or 19:00 Eastern, I’m not certain).

If memory serves, the cable companies even have to block American broadcasts carrying results from being fed to Canadian customers. I haven’t had cable for two elections, so I may be mistaken.

Ah the Captain - the guy who forced the release of some testimony from the Gomery inquiry that was being sat upon - hard. The good Captain is indeed a friend to the citizens of Canada.

No way! Really! Tell us the story, Lapsed.

Why don’t they just not release the results until all the polls close?

:rotfl: I have no idea! You think they would adopt the easiest solution instead of leaning on the bloggers.

Sorry, I’m fuzzy on the details. It was early September I believe and there was one individual’s testimony that was particularly damaging for the Liberals involving specific bribes and/or kickbacks. The testimony had been given under a media blackout. Turns out the Captain had an insider at the inquiry and released some of the information on his blog and the resulting public pressure in Canada meant the media blackout on the information was lifted a lot sooner than was originally planned.

The Captain’s blog was mentioned by name on CKNW, a Vancouver news-talk radio station and lead me to check his blog that day, so if you go through the archives on his blog you may be able to find it. I’m pretty sure it was early September or late August. I wish I could remember the name of the man whose testimony it was.

I just hope your elections aren’t the victim of “Exit Polls”! Boy I hate those, but it didn’t matter in our election in '04.

Let us in the States pray for God’s Will and Conservative results in the Canadian elections! I am sure you’rer gonna pray for us with our Congressional and State elections in November.

Good to know for the next time we want to do an endrun around the CBC.
