I just sent in my letter asking for transfer to the UGCC, prayers please!

I haven’t put my application in yet. Still waiting for my wife to agree.

Isn’t it two letters? One to your current bishop and one to the bishop you want to be received by?

Not to be nosy, is this a personal choice? I am not aware that a wife must approve of a transfer.

I need the permission of my Bishop first before I ask the UGCC Bishop if he will accept my petition.

I understand now.

It is two letters but you do not send the second one until the positive answer to the first one.

Makes sense when I think about it.

Thanks!

Of course, Brother! Please keep this intention in your prayers if you would be so kind!

Consider it done, please keep us updated.

I will especially pray for the intercession of Blessed Titus Brandsma and Saint Peter Thomas, both Carmelites who worked for the unification of the Eastern and Western Churches.

👍

My Latin Church bishop wrote to the Archbishop within a week giving his consent. The Archbishop responded accepting my transfer into the Russian Church within a week of getting the recommendation from my EC pastor. In my case both ordinaries are Latins, since we Russians are under Latin ordinaries.

I asked our parish clergy to delay our signing the attestation in the parish until a particular feast day since I wanted to make it official on a particular feast day, not just any day. 🙂 You might look at the calendar with that in mind for your official signing.

Prayers that all goes smoothly for you.

Has the Apostolic See already granted you its permission to transfer churches?
Rome is normally only involved if an Eastern Catholic requests to transfer to the Latin Church. West going East is handled by the ordinaries.

Their permission is assumed in most cases.
Why is it assumed rather than applied for? I know in the Latin Code of Canon Law that Canon 112 §1 1° it says that canonical transfer between churches requires the permission of the Holy See. As that’s in the Latin Code, I infer it means at least Latins going East must do this. I don’t know what the Code for the Oriental Churches or the particular laws of any Eastern/Oriental church says on the matter.
