Yeah, I think I’ll refrain from doing so until we see the investigation results.I won’t be buying cookies from them anytime soon![]()
Then again, those cookies are wayyyyyy too expensive. That alone makes it prohibitive!

More specifically, the evidence loops back on itself. I have seen this happen a lot in anti-abortion sites, political pundits and urban legends. There are a dozen or so sites I have found that offer evidence, but they also reference each other. Also, the USCCB will have to measure the remoteness of the connection. One problem is that the “evidence out there” is full of half-truths and exaggerations. It takes a lot of time to sort through the rhetoric. Believe me, I’ve tried.![]()
Get ready to rumble!!!I guess I’m not following why this is popcorn-worthy?
Very true. The Catholic School where I worked and my children attended had Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts and Jr. Girl Scouts. The meetings were held right there in the school, after school. Same with the Boy Scouts.Lots of dioceses have scouting programs.
These are CATHOLIC awards given to CATHOLIC boys & girls for learning CATHOLIC doctrine. What is so controversial about CATHOLIC’s learning CATHOLIC teachings? They are given out every year in every Diocese that sponsors Scout groups.Yep, nothing controversial there.![]()
Bingo! We had to pull our girls out of Girl Scouts do to the fact that they have close ties with Planned Parenthood, and they are pro-abortion, and pro-contraception and pro-same sex marriage. We as Catholics felt that this is not conducive to our family living its faith. I also hope that Catholic families that do have children in the scouts educate themselves on what their children are being taught. Do some research and talk to your local scout leadership. My wife and I were appalled when we did.
In my opinion, considering some of what has been posted here, if true, then there are much better ways to award Catholic girls (and boys for that matter) for learning Catholic doctrine…maybe connected with our own Church’s programs, like…say…our own religious education (CCD)?These are CATHOLIC awards given to CATHOLIC boys & girls for learning CATHOLIC doctrine. While I’m not at all a fan of Girl Scouts, the hysterics over CATHOLICs receiving CATHOLIC awards is a bit much to me.
I would much rather have them learning CATHOLIC teaching than some of the garbage taught by some Girl Scout Troops.
The main issue is that the curriculum is provided by GSA. The workbooks and guidance materials are provided with the content in print like a textbook. It is not removable. Whether or not the Scout Leader wishes to teach the material is moot. The Scouts already have it. Membership dues go directly to GSA to support this teaching.…If your parish still uses a national scouting group, still get involved to prevent locally what has been alleged to happen national, or perhaps internationally depending on the allegation. Train the girls to know what to do if they get older and confronted by some do-gooder that tries to help by teaching worldly evil. Or better yet, be there to act on behalf of Catholic teaching and be salt to a bland world.
I think that you will see that the histrionics are over Chavez being given the Elizabeth Seton Award, not about any girl getting a merit badge. These are CATHOLIC awards given to CATHOLIC boys & girls for learning CATHOLIC doctrine. Did you actually see the content? If so, what was in it specifically? And when was this? The main issue is that the curriculum is provided by GSA. Yeah, I’m thinking Dawnia has completely missed the main issue…which is not that girls got awards…it was that the GSA was being supported.I think that you will see that the histrionics are over Chavez being given the Elizabeth Seton Award, not about any girl getting a merit badge.
Yes. My Wife and I actually saw the content. My wife was a leader’s assistant and when she questioned why there was content promoting SSA, Contraception, Pro-Abortion (they called it choice), she was told that this was going to be taught as part of the 6th grade curriculum under awareness of ones sexuality and sexual health. There was also discussion of a planned “field trip” to Planned Parenthood for a talk on “Women’s Health”. This was Summer of 2012 for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.Did you actually see the content? If so, what was in it specifically? And when was this?
Why in the world would there be a field trip to Planned Parenthood for 9, 10 yr old girls.Yes. My Wife and I actually saw the content. You’re focusing on the field trip choice though. I would agree that the field trip choice is something a particular local chapter chose to do. However, the content of the curriculum is national. As of *this past school year *it included things that go against the Catholic Faith. Why in the world would there be a field trip to Planned Parenthood for 9, 10 yr old girls.
Methinks, there are some great exaggeration going on. My daughters GS Troop was for the girls who attended the Catholic School. I knew the leader, she worked for me. I doubt she would remotely suggest a field trip to Planned Parenthood. I was involved with the troop the entire time my daughter was a member. Nothing out of the ordinary was going on, The girls and boys in scouting did have a Mass very similar to what the OP described. The kids wore their uniforms to Mass and were allowed to wear their uniforms vs. their school uniform on meeting days. We took a trip to Savannah to Juliette Lowes home and had a great time. The troop visited many nursing homes, adopted grannies and grandpas, had a sing a long. They went camping of course.
This is blown way out of proportion.another example of scare tactics.
The “field trip” adds fuel to the fire, that is why I focused on it. Got to have a zinger to scare:frighten: people first, that way all the good the GS do fail in comparison to the “field trip”.You’re focusing on the field trip choice though. No, this is not blowing things out of proportion. We should not be promoting organizations that promote SSA, abortion, contraception. I do not get how this is even a question.
Nah, it wasn’t a zinger to scare. It actually happened, so it’s valid to include it.The “field trip” adds fuel to the fire, that is why I focused on it. Got to have a zinger to scare:frighten: people first, that way all the good the GS do fail in comparison to the “field trip”.
I guess every Diocese in the country is going to have to ban the Girl Scouts from their parishes and schools now. And Cardinal Dolan is going to have sit in time out for awhile.
I don’t see this happening though. Paranoia run amok.![]()
