What about praying for the victims of Ridsdale whom Pell protected? What if these charges are true and Pell harmed these people? What about praying for them, instead of loading that request as if the Church was under attack because of this man?

Go home, Cardinal Pell.

I will not condemn Cardinal Pell. That’s a duty way above my station, but I will say go home, stand before the court, and more importantly, stand before God and tell the truth, whatever that may be. I will pray for all involved.

More ammunition for anti-Catholics and anti-Christians in general. 😦

If he’s guilty, I wonder if he thought about how his actions will affect the Church? Regardless of actual guilt, the media is going to be all over it. I already saw one of my Facebook friends talking about this.

Where is he?

Yes, go home Cardinal Pell (how haunting that Tim Minchin song seems to me now).

He will receive a fair and free trial, and if he is guilty then justice will be served. I pray that justice is served.

Nothing can ever truly heal the scars left by sexual abuse but we must pray that this evil at least be purged and exposed for all to see wherever it hides and no matter the office or title of the perpetrator.

Risdale has had his day in court. And is still awaiting a new court date for further charges. But this isn’t about Risdale, it’s about Cardinal Pell.

Yep, pray for everyone. That’s the only way to go. And yes this is going to be used to attack the Church again.

The typical ’ oh all Priests, and Catholic laity are paedophiles etc etc. ’

Pray for us, Pray for our Diocese.

And as yet, these are allegations. As with anyone, Cardinal Pell is innocent until proven guilty. That ain’t going to stop the haters.

And they have already started in the media.

He is currently in Rome.
He is coming back to face this, he just made a media statement

There will be a further statement in four and a half hours, 8.30 am Vatican time.

thecourier.com.au/story/4760912/pell-says-he-will-return-to-face-charges/?cs=62

“Cardinal Pell will return to Australia, as soon as possible, to clear his name following advice and approval by his doctors who will also advise on his travel arrangements.”

The statement says Cardinal Pell “is looking forward to his day in court and will defend the charges vigorously.”

And Pell sort of made that bed for himself, didn’t he?

And if you are actually lumping in that slanderous ‘typical’ thing with what I said, I really hope you rethink that.

As an institution, our Church has failed in the past and on repeated occasions to protect the most vulnerable members under its care from harm at the hands of men of the cloth. If Pell is guilty - and I reiterate if, without any judgement before due process has run its lawful course - then this is no time to bleat about “ammunition for anti-Catholics”. I, for one, am sick and tired of this refrain. You have to face up to criminality. What is hidden must come into the light.

No, it will be a day of reckoning that will come upon the Church and its highest authorities for enabling the career advancement of an abuser if the charges against him are legit. Questions must be asked. This would go beyond committees, investigatory panels, commissions for reform…he is a Cardinal for dying out loud and the head of Vatican City finances.

We need the truth.

I don’t think you quite understand. I am in one of the diocese risdale and Cardinal Pell worked in. We have been dealing , as Catholics, practising Catholics, with this for some time. Everyone, survivors, those who had these as their Priests, clergy who run the media gauntlet and provide strong leadership.

So when I say pray for us, pray for the Church, 🙏🕊️

I have no problem with conditional prayer, nor with thinking Cardinal Pell should face this accusation. However, it is only an accusation, and I am having a heck of a time finding out what he is accused of. You not only assume guilt but assume victims when the allegations have not even been released. You are jumping the gun one jumping the gun.

Let’s just pray for everyone involved, pray that justice is done, pray that the Church administration gets its act together to prevent future incidents of abuse and handle incidents better if they do still occur, and pray for the “haters” that they find more constructive ways to react and that God forgives them their misplaced hate.

The Church is not going to go down over this, as Jesus said the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

There are suppression orders now. What he is actually charged with is now suppressed

Truth as opposed to speculation which is not one bit better or more moral than cover-up. Injustice is injustice.
There is no speculation here.

Cardinal Pell has been charged.

No one knows, at present, if he is guilty of any of the crimes he has been accused of.

But he has been charged and will attend court.

That’s the truth.

Exactly. So how can people anywhere have an opinion about it? I really see those that rush to judgement of guilt against him, or anyone as no better than those that rush to judgment of innocence and cover up crime. All are of the same cloth.
