Just so you know, this isn’t the first time the Cardinal has suspended the priest. I’m not defending him, but he does have a congregation which is very sympathetic and probably would vote with their feet again.
Trust me, just go to St. John Cantius. Everywhere else is just going to be unbearable. It’s a liberal diocese with only a select few parishes that actually are orthodox and show the sacredness of the mass.Don’t worry. The Archdiocese of Chicago is very large and there are many, many parishes. You would probably never have any contact with Fr. Pfleger.
Only “a few select parishes” in Chicago are orthodox? If this is the case, then the Vatican should get rid of the Cardinal, too. Surely you are either making a gross exageration or ignorant of what it means to be orthodox.Trust me, just go to St. John Cantius. Everywhere else is just going to be unbearable. It’s a liberal diocese with only a select few parishes that actually are orthodox and show the sacredness of the mass.
Really? I’m not aware of this. When was the first time and why was he allowed to resume his duties at the same parish after his suspension was lifted? This seems odd to me.Just so you know, this isn’t the first time the Cardinal has suspended the priest. Hmm… it may be a matter of terminology, but I think the words “suspend” or “suspension” have unique meanings in the Catholic Church with regard to priests which is different from the meanings of those words outside the Church. And that difference sometimes confuses reporters.Just so you know, this isn’t the first time the Cardinal has suspended the priest…
suntimes.com/5058005-417/cardinal-george-suspends-the-controversial-rev.-michael-pflegerAn outspoken activist against violence and racism, Pfleger was suspended from his pastor position in June 2008 after a video surfaced during the presidential campaign in which he claimed Hillary Clinton was upset because Barack Obama was “stealing (her) show.”
In 2008, however, George did not suspend Pfleger’s “sacramental faculties,” like the ability to perform marriages, hear confessions or consecrate the Eucharist. Those were suspended Wednesday “as a priest of the Archdiocese,” the letter said.
Very very sad indeed.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chibrknews-cardinal-suspends-pfleger-20110427,0,6343086.story
This is unfortunate, although perhaps unavoidable.
Here is a copy of Cardinal George’s letter to Fr. Pfleger.

Edit:
Please, everyone, be charitable in your comments.
Ridiculous statement …Trust me, just go to St. John Cantius. Everywhere else is just going to be unbearable. It’s a liberal diocese with only a select few parishes that actually are orthodox and show the sacredness of the mass.
He was not suspended twice.Really? I’m not aware of this. When was the first time and why was he allowed to resume his duties at the same parish after his suspension was lifted? This seems odd to me.
Thank you. This makes a lot more sense to me.He was not suspended twice.
He was given a leave of absence in the past.
Now he has been suspended.
Yes indeed, there will probably be fallout from this. Regardless of the fallout, the Cardinal has acted in the best interest of the Catholic Church. Father Pfleger has been a double edge sword in Chicago. He has definitely done much good for the marginalized, no question about it. However, he has also done much harm in promoting ideas that are strictly against Catholic doctrine.Just so you know, this isn’t the first time the Cardinal has suspended the priest. I’m not defending him, but he does have a congregation which is very sympathetic and probably would vote with their feet again.
The case with them is the same as with what the Cardinal said about Pfleger, that he has already left the Church, and so he could probably also say much of Pfleger’s congregation has already left the Church, and I can see it in many of the posters here on this forum, that they have already left the Church.Just so you know, this isn’t the first time the Cardinal has suspended the priest. I’m not defending him, but he does have a congregation which is very sympathetic and probably would vote with their feet again.
That’s the location of the rally. This is not a comment on the situation but rather the article in the first link. So Cardinal George has a mansion does he? I wonder what relevance this has to the news article at all. Sounds like the reporter has an agenda.
I pray for Father because I feel he needs much prayer. Yet, I am confused why you find it wrong for Catholics to celebrate a proper and just move within the Church…can you explain?I believe the Cardinal probably made the right decision in this case, but I find the celebration and triumphalism to be offensive and out of place. I see that often on this site – people cheering and clapping when liberal priests are removed from their positions, while the reaction when priests are censured for being more conservative than the Vatican or God forbid for sexual improprieties is much more muted and solemn. Surely we should be sorrowful when any priest chooses to separate himself from the Catholic faith, rather than seeing this as some sort of victory for the church.
I still say the Cardinal’s words do not mean that Father is removed from St. Sabina. There can easily be some agreement to allow him to stay there.Thank you for the link to the Chicago Tribune regarding the suspension.
Cardinal George has been overly patronizing with Pfelger for some reason.
And the suspension is long over-due.
Someone needs to tell St. Sabina parishioners
(and others who are not even Catholic and sure to join the protest just for the publicity), that the vow of Obedience of Priests is taken seriously in the Catholic Church.
Pfelger has not been teaching the Catholic faith. It appears he was using Church property to teach the ‘Religion of Pfleger’.
When you watch the video, you will see he even believes that Jesus did the wrong thing in choosing men for the 12 Apostles since they did not stay at the foot of the Cross.
