There seems to be more acceptance of a European style of worship, rhetoric and music among some Catholics. The Catholic Church, as a universal church, does not become ‘more protestant’ because of ethnic influence in a particular parish. What some regard as a protestant influence could also be called simply more expressive. And there certainly is no liturgical prohibition against that.I am most troubled by what appears to be the protestant influence on the black Catholic experience. I guess it goes to style of worship, but it seems to be more at work here. Is the theology sound but the expression of it is more protestant?
When he first was elevated, Cardinal George stated that there would be no more standing during the offertory or long pauses to give parishioners the sign of peace. I can assure you that the black congregations in the city complied.
And my parish on the south side (that of the president) happens to be quite diverse.

IMO the Cardinal needs to take over that parish and clean house himself. Sounds like a cesspool at this point.

Sorry, we have no way to know it is only the disobedience issue. The Cardinal could easily have many reasons (or not).Just the disobedience.

A majority of south sides might agree (or not) with the Cardinal, but that is clearly not the case in the St. Sabina parish…

Yes, I do not think there has been a poll of south side Catholics, yet it does not matter even if there was.The South Side holds an enormous number
of people and many, many Catholic parishes.

Exactly. In no way was I attempting to speculate about the Cardinal’s motives or reasons. I accept what he said at face value. My only point is that since we do not know all his reasons, we should not guess beyond what he has said.Agreed! Sometimes the “leaders” in this world are “blind” to the concerns of the poor. Ever hear of Catholic Social Justice Teachings? People are starving to death everyday…I’m discerning the same thing as you are, Paulin……
As others have pointed out, it’s not just the disobedience to the boss that is causing the real harm to the faith. I do not think it irrelevant at all that this priest is promoting ideas contra to the very teachings of the Church!
What kind of a “faith community” is this when the leader of the parish council threatens to leave not only the parish, but perhaps the Church herself? Have they replaced their Catholic FAITH with “social justice” concerns and politics?
