I have no problem with that. That has nothing to do with my question.

But you said that what I’m looking for is a non-existent scripture. That’s what I was looking for. Thank you!

The Church teaches it.

That should be enough for you, for you are a Catholic.

Two posts have just shown you that “co-responsibility for the common good make it morally obligatory to pay taxes” (Catechism of the Church #2240).

So no, it is NOT immoral for the government to place this obligation on us, since it is in fact a moral obligation that we DO pay taxes.

I never had an issue with my moral obligation to pay taxes. What did that have to do with my question?

Can you show me the scripture quote where Jesus said “do not engage in insider trading”?

If not, using your logic its OK?

Answer this question, then:

What can you possibly mean by someone “forcing you” to help others?

Enlighten us. Who forces you to provide for the poor?

He said we should not steal or take advantage of others. I am satisfied with that.

Nobody does because I do it. But what would happen if I refused to give?

Addressing the evils of the love of money?

Come now, that’s an easy Google search

Hebrews 13:5
Luke 12:15 (again, keep in mind global perspective)
Matthew 6:24
Proverbs 14:31
Proverbs 22:9
1 Peter 5:2-3
1 Corinthians 4:11-13
1 Timothy 6:6-10

Probably best

1 Timothy 6:17-19 (Dewy Reims, at that)
[6] But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world: and certainly we can carry nothing out. [8] But having food, and wherewith to be covered, with these we are content. [9] For they that will become rich, fall into temptation, and into the snare of the devil, and into many unprofitable and hurtful desires, which drown men into destruction and perdition. [10] For the desire of money is the root of all evils; which some coveting have erred from the faith, and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.

I’m confused. In the OP, you said:
I think laws that take money forcefully from one to give to another are vile.
Aren’t you referring to taxes?

Make up your mind: Are taxes “vile” or are they a moral obligation? Or is it just helping people with your taxes that you have a problem with?

Yeah I thought you might catch that. Good one! So I’m not the perfect Catholic. Maybe some day …

Good scriptures but not sure what that had to do with my question.

Insider trading is not stealing, nor is it taking advantage of others. Its just using information not made public to buy stock. I guess its OK…Jesus never said anything about it, and since its neither stealing nor taking advantage of another person, I’m good!

Good scriptures but not sure what that had to do with my question.
It does. Because you are showing that you are, from a world-wide perspective, acting with the kind of greed that God and Jesus have warned against.

If even you, who claim that you should not be forced, cannot live up to some of the strongest languages the Bible has, then how can we trust anyone else to act without forcing them?

Basically, you’ve proven that we have no choice but to establish rules that make people contribute to public welfare because they love money more than their neighbor.

I did not expect such a flurry of responses that had nothing to do with my question. I don’t have time to answer everyone so if anyone answers my question I’ll reply. Otherwise I only have time to lurk. Thanks all!

I must have misunderstood when you said you were done. My bad. I agree that the intent of the Constitution is to protect our rights. It doesn’t. But that aside, if I agree that man is the source of my rights then I must accept the notion that man can also take those rights away. I’m more in step with the founders who said that we are endowed by God with certain unalienable rights. I get my rights from God. If you want to continue to fight for your “constitutional” rights, be my guest.
You’re right, I’m not done - this is too unreal for me to leave.

Again, I don’t fight for them. I care for those who do, though, and took an oath to defend the Constitution.

To assert we have no rights under the Constitution is ridiculous. We fought a whole war for independence on the premise that government is essential for the protection of human rights as given by God. In fact, we wrote a whole document declaring that that illegal rebellion was in fact legal…

“We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights…that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Or did you miss that in junior high school social studies in our Declaration?

We, the people…establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.”

Did you never study the Preamble? WE THE PEOPLE secured those rights so that no one can arbitrarily deny them to us. If you honestly believe you have no Constitutional rights, I can’t help you. You’re wrong, but I can’t help you. The beauty of it is here, because of the Constitution, you can say you have no Constitutional rights. (Oh the irony.) But please, go somewhere without the protection of anything resembling the First Amendment, and exercise your God-given rights.

Go live somewhere without protection. I’ve done it. It’s frightening on multiple levels.
So you’re too chicken to force me but you’re fine with paying someone else to force me
Above our paygrades. Go read the CCC and the Bible - I gave you the verses and paragraphs above.

Don’t like taxes? Don’t pay them, and don’t ever use anything they subsidize. Go off the grid - start by unhooking your Internet, since your taxes subsidize the cost of communications infrastructure.

Your question has been answered the only way it can be answered - it’s just not the answer you were hoping for.

Best of luck to you and God bless.
