I don’t see how it is mocking to point out that he tried to murder his friend over a radio station. It’s just a fact.
If i remember correctly this is the point when he turned his life around. Additionally i am so thankful i have been forgiven for some stupid stuff i did before i turned my life around.

I think he has more than atoned by how he has led his life. He was able to overcome the tendency toward anger and that is quite an accomplishment in itself. I choose to let God judge the rest.
Maybe, but I’m okay with the idea that someone who tried to murder over a radio station shouldn’t be president.

you are making it seem as though he actually attacked someone. nothing happened. you have blown it way out of proportion.

He tried to drive a knife into another person’s stomach.

The knife broke on his victim’s belt buckle so it didn’t enter the victim.

That isn’t nothing.

That’s attempted murder.

I like Dr. Carson. He rose up from his childhood. And if you think about it he ended up using knives for something good. I have nothing but respect for him. how easy it would have been for him to have taken the wrong path. he does not deserve to be mocked. he has brought honesty, integrity and dignity to the campaign.

I agree on all counts. I think he’s more than atoned for his mistake in his youth. I don’t see anything at all about him now that indicates he’s prone to violence today.

V. The Many Forms of Penance in Christian Life

1435 Conversion is accomplished in daily life by gestures of reconciliation, concern for the poor, the exercise and defense of justice and right,33 by the admission of faults to one’s brethren, fraternal correction, revision of life, examination of conscience, spiritual direction, acceptance of suffering, endurance of persecution for the sake of righteousness. Taking up one’s cross each day and following Jesus is the surest way of penance.34

1439 The process of conversion and repentance was described by Jesus in the parable of the prodigal son, the center of which is the merciful father:37 The fascination of illusory freedom, the abandonment of the father’s house; the extreme misery in which the son finds himself after squandering his fortune; his deep humiliation at finding himself obliged to feed swine, and still worse, at wanting to feed on the husks the pigs ate; his reflection on all he has lost; his repentance and decision to declare himself guilty before his father; the journey back; the father’s generous welcome; the father’s joy - all these are characteristic of the process of conversion. the beautiful robe, the ring, and the festive banquet are symbols of that new life - pure worthy, and joyful - of anyone who returns to God and to the bosom of his family, which is the Church. Only the heart of Christ Who knows the depths of his Father’s love could reveal to us the abyss of his mercy in so simple and beautiful a way.

V. “And Forgive Us Our Trespasses, as We Forgive Those Who Trespass AGAINST US”

2838 This petition is astonishing. If it consisted only of the first phrase, “and forgive us our trespasses,” it might have been included, implicitly, in the first three petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, since Christ’s sacrifice is “that sins may be forgiven.” But, according to the second phrase, our petition will not be heard unless we have first met a strict requirement. Our petition looks to the future, but our response must come first, for the two parts are joined by the single word “as.”

and forgive us our trespasses . . .

2839 With bold confidence, we began praying to our Father. In begging him that his name be hallowed, we were in fact asking him that we ourselves might be always made more holy. But though we are clothed with the baptismal garment, we do not cease to sin, to turn away from God. Now, in this new petition, we return to him like the prodigal son and, like the tax collector, recognize that we are sinners before him.133 Our petition begins with a “confession” of our wretchedness and his mercy. Our hope is firm because, in his Son, "we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."134 We find the efficacious and undoubted sign of his forgiveness in the sacraments of his Church.135

2840 Now - and this is daunting - this outpouring of mercy cannot penetrate our hearts as long as we have not forgiven those who have trespassed against us. Love, like the Body of Christ, is indivisible; we cannot love the God we cannot see if we do not love the brother or sister we do see.136 In refusing to forgive our brothers and sisters, our hearts are closed and their hardness makes them impervious to the Father’s merciful love; but in confessing our sins, our hearts are opened to his grace.

Not to mention King David’s repentance, or Paul’s conversion, etc…

was he charged? did his friend press charges? how old was he at the time? when I was a middle schooler my younger sister was always doing things to push my buttons. I had to restrain myself many times. he said that is when he read the Bible and realized he had to deal with his anger. I am thankful his friend was not hurt. and he has gone on to accomplish many things and be a role model.

What does being charged have to do with anything? He said he did it. This isn’t a case where there is any doubt. He tried to murder his friend over a radio station. He took out a knife and tried to stab his friend in the stomach. The only reason he didn’t stab his friend was because the knife struck the victim’s belt buckle and broke. It’s attempted murder. Period.

He’s used a knife many times to save lives too. That’s pretty neat.

was he trying to murder him exactly? he maybe tried to poke him, but wasn’t planning on murdering him. he wasn’t charged with anything so it must not have been attempted murder. if he wasn’t charged or arrested - I would choose to look at the good he has done with his life from that point on which far outweighs what happened that day between Carson and his friend. If this was Obama instead of Carson, you wouldn’t be obsessing about it.

When you try to stick a knife into someone’s abdomen, you are trying to murder them. Why does being charged have to do with anything?

I have the utmost respect for Ben Carson. He ran an honest campaign. He was genuinely likable, funny, and most of all, honest. I don’t believe he attacked any of the other candidates - at least not on the scale that some of the other candidates attacked each other. He even called for a meeting between all of the candidates to discuss the uncivil tone of the campaign.

Basically, he was just a stand-up guy. I definitely hope he has some role to play in the government in the future. If not, at least he can look at himself in the mirror for the rest of his life.

I heard though that he has previously said he was not interested in the Senate. That he was an executive. But if he changes direction, my hope is on whom I believe will be the Democratic nominee, US Congressman Patrick Murphy.
I’ve heard Patrick Murphy speak. He seems like a reasonable and honorable guy. I think he very vet-centric, too

We have his book floating around the house I believe, I really should read it, we talk about these politicians but may well not even visit their websites.

I do NOT like the idea of Ben Carson being president. This dude has no business being in that position. He doesn’t seem to know much about foreign policy and I haven’t heard many good answers from him in the debates. He’s done now though, so that’s good.

Not every pro-life person should be the president of the United States.

I certainly would have no problem with Dr. Carson having a cabinet position relating to health in a republican administration nor would I have a problem with him as VP. I liked his ideas on many things.

He has been so much better at controlling his emotions than many of us are able to control our mouth!!! God Bless, Memaw

He was asked very few questions during the debates and the answers he did give were excellent. God Bless, Memaw
