When Murphy lived in the United States for 10 years with his partner, who died of cancer, he chose not to get communion because he thought it was in conflict with Catholic doctrine.
T’is sad Mr. Murphy doesn’t understand.**“Ultimately, I got to believe it wasn’t,” **Murphy said. “For me, the eucharist is the centre of my faith.”
The next day they got a letter officially declaring they would be allowed to take communion only if they led a celibate life.
One of the sadnesses of this case is that these men feel that they are being unfairly treated. If the bishops will consistently hold to Church teachings, cases such as this would not catch people unawares.“those who make public announcements that they are living in a manner completely contrary to the teaching of the Church cannot expect to receive Holy Communion unless there is a change in their situation.”
I couldn’t agree with you more. One of the sadnesses of this case is that these men feel that they are being unfairly treated. If the bishops will consistently hold to Church teachings, cases such as this would not catch people unawares.
No kidding. We are living in a Huxley’s A Brave New World and Orwelian 1984. We haven’t seen anything yet. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.I have a feeling that the Culture of Death will try to use this to force the Catholic Church in Canada to recognize “gay marriages”.![]()
I have read Huxley and have 1984, but have not read it. I would say more Huxley than Orwell (Orwell was more about the Communists). In Brave, the Christians were the barbarians and the civilized world was much like the Culture of Death of today. No kidding. We are living in a Huxley’s A Brave New World and Orwelian 1984. We haven’t seen anything yet. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.
Pax tecum! If they really believe the Eucharist is the center of their lives, I hope they will attend holy hour and be close to the exposition of the blessed scarament.
I will pray that it doesn’t.I have a feeling that the Culture of Death will try to use this to force the Catholic Church in Canada to recognize “gay marriages”.![]()
I don’t think that this will happen. It’s one thing to recognize Civil Unions but it’s a completely different thing for any Church to be forced to change it’s rules due to social pressure.I have a feeling that the Culture of Death will try to use this to force the Catholic Church in Canada to recognize “gay marriages”.![]()
