:clapping: :clapping: Kudos to Archbishop Terrence Prendergast.:clapping: :clapping:
When Murphy lived in the United States for 10 years with his partner, who died of cancer, he chose not to get communion because he thought it was in conflict with Catholic doctrine.
**“Ultimately, I got to believe it wasn’t,” **Murphy said. “For me, the eucharist is the centre of my faith.”
T’is sad Mr. Murphy doesn’t understand.

Good for him! I’ll say a prayer of thanksgiving for Archbishop Terrence Prendergast 😃

The next day they got a letter officially declaring they would be allowed to take communion only if they led a celibate life.
“those who make public announcements that they are living in a manner completely contrary to the teaching of the Church cannot expect to receive Holy Communion unless there is a change in their situation.”
One of the sadnesses of this case is that these men feel that they are being unfairly treated. If the bishops will consistently hold to Church teachings, cases such as this would not catch people unawares.

Seems the archbishop was fair and just and gave them a chance to live celibate and then be able to receive. They didn’t take it.

If they really believe the Eucharist is the center of their lives, I hope they will attend holy hour and be close to the exposition of the blessed scarament.

I couldn’t agree with you more.

I would say that they forced themselves out of the church. If a person openly supported Republican candidates or openly gave money to the Republican party would they expect to be able to run as a Democrat for office? Why do people think they get to make up their own rules for being Catholic?

The couple met with the bishop to argue their point. They were no more open to the Church’s teachings than the bishop was open to blessing their sinful lifestyle.
They had a choice to make: Communion in the Catholic Faith, or engaging in an active homosexual lifestyle.
Apparently, the Eucharist was not “the center of (Murphy’s) life.” 😦
Oremus.
May God Bless the good bishop for his sound leadership.

I have a feeling that the Culture of Death will try to use this to force the Catholic Church in Canada to recognize “gay marriages”.

No kidding. We are living in a Huxley’s A Brave New World and Orwelian 1984. We haven’t seen anything yet. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

The devil may win a few battles…but don’t lose faith…or sight of the fact, we know the end of the story. God wins!
Jesus Wins!

And always remember, his great mercy for those who love him!

I have read Huxley and have 1984, but have not read it. I would say more Huxley than Orwell (Orwell was more about the Communists). In Brave, the Christians were the barbarians and the civilized world was much like the Culture of Death of today.

I think this is why arguments of homosexual issues have reached such epic proportions.

There are probably plenty of people in that parish in horrible mortal sin. Abortion, adultery, birth control…

And yet, the average person ducks their head and hides their sin in shame.

Yet those who want to practice homosexual lifestyles just have to, absolutely have to, make sure everyone knows!

It is their downfall. No one knows what you’re doing. Do you think the average woman walks around retelling her abortion to everyone and forcing them to approve?

Do you think the cheating spouse stands up and tells his parish, and still demands communion?

Pax tecum!

Moreover, if they really believe that, then they need to stop placing their own desires above it.

In Christ,
Rand

I am so happy the archbishop stood for the faith. 😃 👍 So many bishops today have abused the teachings of Vatican II and won’t stand for the Church.😦

But, I have to say that the CBC’s coverage is quite biased. It seemed to me like they were saying that the gay couple were the victims and that the Church’s position can (should, and one day will) change on the issue. The media’s intentional misunderstanding and portrayal of the Catholic faith is one of the reasons so many Catholics are confused today.😦

I’m not sure it did any good, or if has it been printed, but I made an editorial comment to the CBC saying how one-sided the story was, that if the “couple” were true Catholics, then they should know where Catholic teaching stood regarding same-sex relationships, etc. Just a thought that maybe perhaps if we all showed our displeasure, maybe they (CBC) would listen and present another point of view (wishful thinking, I know).

I don’t think that this will happen. It’s one thing to recognize Civil Unions but it’s a completely different thing for any Church to be forced to change it’s rules due to social pressure.
If the Church DID recognize it would Gay Marriage be okay with you?
