The Charismatic renewal is an organized group within Catholicism that stresses prayer in the Holy Spirit and "baptism’ in the Holy Spirit. The baptism is not a Sacrament, but rather is fervent, hands on prayer for the release of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is exactly how my faith life was ignited. My fear of evangelizing vanished after the gifts of the Holy Spirit were released.
One caveat I must mention is that the movement is sometimes criticized for a disordered stress upon speaking in tongues. Now, tongues are a miraculous manifestation, or we would not see it. However, there are many other manifestations that are even more to be desired, especially the gift of prophecy. This stress upon tongues, at the cost of the other blessings of the Spirit, is disordered, and seems to serve only those present. It must be used in context, among those who can interpret. Saint Paul very clearly wrote of the proper use of these manifestations in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14.
As a Pentecostal, you are already love Christ and are familiar with the blessing of the Holy Spirit. Well, He is present in the Catholic Church, not only amongst the members, but all through the liturgy as well. Check with your local parish, as they likely have a group of charismatics. If not, another nearby parish certainly will. The charismatic groups hold several events each year, and the most Spirit-filled Reconciliation (Confession) of my life occurred during attendance at one of these events. However, He is present at each and every mass that is celebrated, since He is the power by which all good on earth is done.
At the same time, I must mention an even greater gift that awaits you within the Catholic Church. It is Jesus Christ in the Flesh. Emmanuel. God with us. Once you receive the grace to believe that the Lord’s supper (Eucharist - “thanks”) is actually the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ, that it traces directly back in an unbroken line to Christ - you realize that you have nowhere else to go.
If your heart is open to it, you will find that your Pentecostal background is a wonderful foundation to make the leap to an even deeper, more profound faith. The Holy Spirit will erase any doubts that you have. Keep seeking the truth in its fulness and it will be revealed to you. May Christ’s peace always be with you.
