Do we have any “born-again” Catholics here? Do we have any Catholics here who were “baptized in the Holy Spirit” and pray in tongues?
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church. While the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church makes no distinction between churches, some charismatic parishes may practice “worship outside of Mass,” including prayer meetings featuring alleged prophecy, faith healing and glossolalia. By definition, all baptized Catholics have been born again. What’s your point?

Never came across a banned topic. I’m sort of new to the forums. What causes banning?

I’m not Charismatic, but I thought I read somewhere that the Pope said it was OK.

The moderators have determined that the subject stirs up too much strife and it take a lot of moderators’ time to manage these threads. Therefore the topic is banned.

You’re right, the movement has papal approval and there is a liaison office within the Vatican for their affairs.

Thanks, Sirach2, for the information. Not to hijack this thread or anything, but what does OP mean? I cannot for the life of me, figure that out and see it in a lot of comments.

I find it hard to find answers to how things work on the Forums…I keep getting dead-ended when I try logical-sounding searches.

Beats me, and a couple of us asked what he wanted to know.

Try using the forums Google search, rather than the advanced search. You can type in more words there and get a better return, whereas the latter only allows one keyword to search with.

OP means “original poster”.

At the top of each forum is a list of “stickies” which should be read before posting. Many deal with certain topics that are banned for discussion–in the ApologeticsForum this subject is banned.

Try to find and read the stickies before posting in a particular forum, or your thread may be closed by the mods. There are reasons why certain topics are banned–usually because they become too contentious and unChristian behavior is displayed, or people are trying to push views which are not compatible with Catholic teaching.

Oh, my! I’m so silly. I mean the abbreviation “OP” ,What does O-P mean? Somehow, it refers to the person posting the original thread. Does it mean Original Poster?

I am not sure what born-again refers to, sorry.

In the Catholic Church, there is the Sacrament of Baptism. This cannot be confused with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which is a prayer experience and I did have that. I pray in English and I pray in Tongues.

This link is to a basic manual on the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

I’m fully aware of the seven sacraments. But “baptism in the Holy Spirit” has a different meaning in pentecostal/charismatic circles.

OP = “original post”

Banned topic in the Apologetics forum. Not sure if it counts here, this being a sub forum of Apologetics. May want to ask first before going further. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=697038
I don’t see why it is banned. The CCR has been fully sanctioned by the Church.
Three popes have acknowledged the movement: Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Pope John Paul II stated that the movement was integral to the renewal of the entire Catholic Church. (source: Catholic Charismatic Renewal)

iirc it was due to several heated threads that led to less than charitable conduct.

I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, but have never spoken a single syllable in a “tongue” as that is not my charism. For those interested, here is more information on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit from Jesuit Fr. Harold Cohen and Capuchin Franciscan Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, (the preacher of the papal household): ccrno.org/WhatisBaptism.php

And no, you need not roll on the floor or babble incoherently. What it is, is a profound deepening of your relationship with God, and a realization of the charism that you were given at your baptism.
