Hi misericordie,

misericordie:
tHING IS THAT IN THE first PENTECOST, no one was jumping up and down or throwing themselves on the floor.
St. John the Baptist leapt with joy in the womb, filled with the Holy Spirit. Joy is a sign of the Holy Spirit (and indeed, we should be the most joyful people on the face of the Earth), and it may manifest in the form of “jumping up and down”.

If we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, I do not see why he could not “throw us on the floor”. I don’t know much about it, but I hear sometimes people who have been so hurt need to be healed in such a way.

That brings up an interesting point. Who here has been “rested in the spirit”? Any testimonies about what happened, to you or to anyone else?

Cheers,
TTM

Hi again,
Keith Strohm:
If one believes that charisms and spiritual gifts are the birthright of every baptized person, then wherever the Church exists and remains ignorant of those charisms she is unable to take advantage of every gift that the Lord gave her to accomplish His mission in the world.

Perhaps that ‘subtext’ can be ‘read’ by others as a statement of charismatic superiority. But I think the fact of the matter is that by virtue of our baptism, we are all charismatic.
I’d just like add also that the gifts (ie. Charisms) are not the measure for any sort of “superiority”. The real measure of a spiritually “superior” person is the fruits of the spirit, and not necessarily the gifts. The gifts, being gifts, are freely given by God as he sees fit, and are not dependant on our holiness. The fruits, however, can be signs of holiness:

Gal 5:22-23 - “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.”

That’s not to say that the gifts are useless, of course. Quite the contrary. As Keith said, and as St. Paul tells us, it is in our best interest to “…earnestly desire the spiritual gifts…” (1 Cor 14:1) - and this is why Charismatic Catholics do just that.

God bless,
TTM

Could we please bring the debate to another thread?

This thread is for sharing uplifting Charismatic experiences.

I will start another thread

I am glad you are taking part in this discussion misericordie.

I do wonder what everyone in the upper room was doing at the first Pentecost. For some reason, the neighborhood thought they were all drunk.

Any ideas? We really can only speculate, of course.

TTM:
The feminine spirituality of the Catholic can regard the masculine Evangelical approach as shallow, noisy, and utilitarian, lacking an interior life."
Hmm. Sounds familiar?
God bless,
TTM
yes. However, the approach is not as much a risk as the lack of discernment. While asking about discernment within CR prayer meeting, a priest who involves w/ CR, told me such prayer groups need more men for discernment reason… women tend to go w/ their senses, feelings, emotion, heart, but men are more likely to discern w/ reasoning, mind,…

Keith Strohm:
Hmm…I guess I don’t consider Charismatic Spirituality a new innovation–it’s been at the core of our experience as the People of God since the Church was founded at Pentecost.

I suppose that I would say that the externals of the CCR are a relatively recent innovation, but I would follow that up by saying that I believe that the CCR is a movement of the Holy Spirit, leading the Church toward a rediscovery of its true richness.
You are right it’s not same experience. For instance, the tongues at Pentecost is in native languages, understood by the people so the experience edified, built up the Church, which is a must according to St. Paul.

Actually I don’t believe that can be said of any of the movements within the Church; at least not until they and their membership can say along with St. Paul, “It’s no longer I who live, but Christ who lives within me.”

Dear Friends,

The Staten Island Conference lost a wonderful member of the service team and a dear friend.

Mary Heaney, our treasurer passed away suddenly on Dec 23rd. As Fr King said at the funeral, “I never heard one critical word of Mary.” She is truly a model for us all—joyful and kind, as well as hard working and always there to lend a hand, as well as very devout and prayerful with a strong gift of discernment.

She is with the Lord, now—please pray for those who grieve her, and for someone to continue her work with the SI Conference.

Eternal rest, Mary----We love you and will miss you.

Hi Miseri
That was a lot of fun. Thank you.

This thread was started for Charismatics to come here and share without worrying about debate or distraction. I am as playful as anyone and far be it from me to hamper anyone from play.

However, you have had your fun. In fact, I thought it was pretty entertaining. It is now time for you to leave the thread, unless you are willing to participate in the Spirit that the thread for which it was established.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut.

Blessings.

robartaf,
Your original post which started this thread was quite defensive. It seems that you believe that a thread for “Charisimatics” ONLY is required. Do Charismatics have to have “special protection”? The special protection has not been seen on other threads. Are you saying that without “protection” the thread will deteriate?:tiphat:

Not protection–stay on topic and give common courtesy to a reasonable request.

This is a thread for Charismatics to share without the misconceptions and unjust criticism often heaped on them.

Of course anyone may share an experience, just keep the debate and criticism in the many other threads you frequent to criticize CCR.

Thanks Mysty!
I didn’t see this thread, am glad you did.

Anyone can open their own debate thread on any topic. That simply is not what this one is all about.

Thanks for your response. I’m in Champaign Illinois. 150 miles south of Chicago.

Hello Walter,

Since this is an approved movement within the Catholic Church, you can probably call the Chancery office in your diocese and they will tell you the name of several contact persons involved in established prayer communities. There is usually a charismatic priest liaison assigned by the Bishop who can give you this information.
