Perhaps what I heard was wrong, but the entire thing is alot of discussion about nonsense. She made a small exaggeration and people attempt to use it to derail her entire campaign. It’s politics at its worst.

In light of several apalling threads out there regarding protestants and our Faith I just had this need to put this out there…
Why does it seem that SOME catholics assume that protestants are idiots who gave no thought as to what we believe?
Did you know…
That most protestants, including myself, have done research - prayed heavily - talked to others - and done more research before deciding which belief system to follow??? We didn’t just happen on it and decide that this was it without another thought. Contrary to SOME catholics beliefs we are not stupid. We put a LOT of thought into what we believe and it is so hurtful and ignorant to assume that we are just morons who can’t think for ourselves.

Most protestants don’t know much about the catholic Faith and even tho they have objections regarding said Faith they certainly DON’T protest it. I would fall into this group. Growing up I had never really learned anything (good or bad) about Catholocism and hadn’t given it much thought. When I hear that I am a protestant because I protest the church it confuses me, since how could I protest something I know little about and never gave much thought to??? I may disagree with some teachings but I in no way protest it…

As a Catholic, I have been told repeatedly that I have been brainwashed. Doesn’t bother me a bit. I don’t care what others think, and when it comes to online/anonymous communities, I suggest you take up the same view as well.
If someone is offensive, ignore them. If they persist, report them. What you suggest is happening to you is pervasive at non-Catholic forums against Catholics.

This thread appears to have been hijacked by an anti-CAtholic who is doing precisley what the OP asked Catholics, and later the hijacker directly, NOT to do.
It is so sad when someone behaves in such a manner.
On the other hand, I suspect that person, with that posting style, will not be making posts like these on this forum for long. People who attack people never last long here; they run out of steam and leave, realize how silly, counter-productive and perhaps even sinful it is and change (like me) or, regrettably, the moderators have to step in.
Such people, by the way, are not limited to non-Catholics. I have seen many Catholics behave in atrocious ways and have lost their posting privileges.
I for one, welcome the sentiments expressed by the OP. Let us treat each other with respect and dignity. Scolding and attacking usually do not work. I mean take a look at my signature line. Is that not so?

Hello all,
I have been away from this forum for quite some time, I took some time off and resisted participating in these threads out of anger and frustration toward some of the opinions I encountered resulting in vain and fruitless arguement. Since then I’ve met (in person) some wise and holy people, bringing clarity to my confusion.
I have serious doubts about many things said on these threads. My reasoning is that there is blatant anger and irrational overtones behind each conversation. That is not to say that anger in of itself is unjustified, or a bad thing, there are many examples of rational and justified anger.
But all too often there is such a thing as “cursing the darkness”.
And because most of us are all in the same boat (myself included) - being unclear and confused to the reality of God’s graces, God’s mysteries, and God’s wishes… we argue out of vanity and frustration. Knowing the truth, and claiming to know the truth are two entirely different things, don’t you think?
I will choose to believe the person who has no agenda or motive, especially when it comes to saving my soul. If you spit in my face, pick a fight, demand for me to admit I am wrong, then you are a bully. I learned a very valuable lesson from doing martial arts: A (good) black belt will walk away from a fight, knowing full well he could kill the other person, but instead will retreat and be percieved as a coward.
The internet is a very dangerous place, it can make good people do, say and believe not-so-good things. We would all be wise to be careful what we say and listen to.

This is true - but it is not much of an argument, because the same can be said of most forms of Protestantism. This is not a complaint against Protestantism - it’s simply a fact.
Who gains from digging up the past ? No one can do anything about it - can’t we leave these things to God, rather than attacking each other’s Christianity ? How does it help anyone to think of the sins of others ?Does it ? The OP has no need to prove that, because that is believed by faith - & faith is founded, not on arguments, but on the grace of God.
FWIW - how does any one know that some future religion will not fit the bill far better than the CC ? The identification of Babylon the Great with Papal Rome depends on the assumption (among others) that no other power will come along in the future & be an even better BtG.
Arguments that show Rome is not the Church prove too much - for they can be used (& often are) against Protestantism.

I just thought everyone would like to see a ‘good Apologist’ (note the sarcasm in action. After being apparently unable to continue his argument on this thread, Super Sola sent the following message to me:

I will pray that the Blessed Virgin Mother of God plead for you at the dreadful seat of Christ that your eyes may be opened and you will see that outside the Apostolic Roman Catholic Church no one can be saved; that this is the only ark of salvation, and if you do not enter, you will perish in the flood. Please come out of the false Protestant religious system, which is most hateful to God. Stop rebelling. Christ lives in the Catholic Church alone–come back to the one true Church, back to the channels of grace, the sacraments, and back to Christ’s Vicar, the Shepherd of the Church on earth, our Holy Father the Pope. You’re right and I shouldn’t have allowed myself to get worked up over his insults. I’ve always heard when someone resorts to such personal attacks, it means they have lost the argument but are unwilling to admit it.
Again, I am sorry for getting unrighteously angry. Please forgive me.
It is this kind of comment that set Super Sola off and started him screaming about how, although some Roman Catholics were saying that a person can be Saved without “officially” being a part of the Roman Catholic Church (obviously, all who are Christ’s are a part of the Catholic [Universal] Church/Body of Christ, but the question is always who/what makes up this Universal Church and Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy believe themselves to be the true and fullest embodiment of the One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church), but other Roman Catholics were being very dogmatic on that issue that unless someone is “officially” Roman Catholic, they aren’t getting into Heaven. Obviously, I disagree with Refugium’s statement.
Honestly, just as I (and I think the OP has tried to convey this as well) mentioned how Super Sola’s ‘performance’ here has served to cause me to, perhaps wrongly (I don’t know), think less of the Pentecostal Charismatic movement, Refugium’s statements cause me to perhaps think a tad less (at least Refugium is polite and lucid in his statements) of Roman Catholicism, especially since his dogmatic statements seem to go against the words of official representatives of the Roman Catholic Church (like that link earlier to the Vatican website and the words of Monsignor Brian Farrell).

I think Refugium’s statement is accurate if it was intended only to apply to Super Sola. Obviously, Super Sola is a pertinacious heretic and would have to re-affirm the Catholic faith in order to be saved. This involves submission to the Roman Pontiff. Refugium’s statement was doctrinally sound and totally in line with what the Catholic Church teaches, even if it was put somewhat angrily.
The only difficulty is with the statement “Christ lives in the Catholic Church alone”. If he’s saying that Christ only lives within the formal confines of the Roman Catholic Church, this is manifestly false. The Catholic Church has always said that heretics may validly baptise, for example. The Spirit of Christ is not denied to those outside the physical boundaries of the Church.

As far as I can see Sola just wants to get in a competition on who can say the others church is from satan as many different ways as possible. Waste of time, and I’m proud we are not involving ourselves with that.
