Excuse me, did the German Christians antagonize the Muslims in any way?

Don’t confuse supporting a false religion for love. To love them is to lead them to the Truth.

Because religion is more than a set of beliefs. A person’s religion is also an important part of their ethnic identity and integral to their sense of community.

The mosque is primarily for Turkish immigrants or their descendents. Turkish people have not always been well treated in Germany. Contributing to the mosque is a gesture of love, acceptance and welcome for Turkish Germans.

And if they’re not going to see what you think is right as the Truth, why not support them in that they possess (according to the Vatican) some elements of that Truth?

If anything, such an action would lead to greater acceptance of Catholics in that community, simply from the recognition that the people of St Theodore’s are truly displaying Christian virtue and charity even to those who differ in belief.

Remember, Jesus hung out with Samaritans. You all would do well to follow him in that, just as you claim to follow him in some other respects.

Then build a community centre for them, so that they can feel welcome! Why should making people feel welcome necessitate keeping them blind to the Truth?
 
Well said. If my parish ever took up a collection to build a mosque, I certainly wouldn’t contribute, and I dare say that not many others in my parish would either.
 
I have seen people of many different denominations come together to help rebuild a church after a fire or other disaster.

When our parish was struggling to get started, we met in the high school gym. The school district then got PC and kicked us out and the Shriners, of all people, were kind enough to allow us to use the Jamil Temple. Thank God they exhibited more charity to us than some here would show towards our Muslim brothers.
 
Doesn’t CCC 841 call for this kind of coperation, acknowledgeing we all Christians, Jews and Muslims worship the same God?

I think as a goodwill interfaith gesture it is very wise on the part of the Christians, provided the Muslims accept it. Normally Muslims don’t like contributions of other religions in building a Mosque , if they accept it they are very moderate Muslims.

This is a hateful statement that is unbecoming of a Christian. This thread may be the most disappointed I’ve been at fellow Christians in a long time. This is an act of love and it mirrors the story of the Good Samaritan. It shouldn’t matter if every Muslim in the world hated us. Christ would still call us to show a gesture of love. He wouldn’t say convert and then I’ll help you. This is what Francis was speaking of when he said “preach the Gospel and use words if necessary.” We would convert more people if we do what these folks did

Jesus Christ came to do the Father’s will and He was the Way and the Truth. They rejected Him. Those who do not know Him do not know the Father. This is mysterious, but it is clear we have a call to evangelize, not support other religions that do not have the Good News.

The Good News is the foundation for all humanity. It is the Way and the Truth. If you help the good Samaritan, it is from the command of Jesus to love and the Holy Spirit.

Building a building that denies His passion is the very opposite of true charity. Help yes, but in no ways is the denial of Jesus help. I respectfullty submit that a desire to be helpful that is hurtful (building a mosque) will not help them.

The bread of Life will really help all of us and of course if they are hungry corporal help is good, but to do anything to take them farther away from Him is not helpful, but the worst cruelty, for He is Love, He alone satisfies.

C’mon, that’s not the Christian thing to say and you should not stereotype other people. Universally, do you think they like violence? Universally, no. Of course not. There are some bad individual Muslims, in the same way, there are some bad Christians.

In our own Catholic Church, even if some her members of it are undeniably violent, do you think that it will ever undo what Christ stood for? Heck no.

Building this mosque does not mean that they were supporting the Muslim faith. It is an act of kindness that looks beyond the fact that it is a different faith and in some views one that stands in opposition to our own. This act of kindness is an example of the best way to evangelize, by example. These Muslims got to see first hand the love that Christians have to give. What better way to plant the seed of Christ in their hearts. If a Muslim were tgo read this thread they might be turned off by the negativity displayed towards their faith. In terms of your response, however, I appreciate how it is a lucid, well thought out point of view instead of a hateful diatribe despite the fact that I personally disagree.

It doesn’t seem like a good idea. Helping poor people regardless of their religion is a good idea, but helping to build a religious building that promotes an intolerant religion, doesn’t seem to be a good idea.

Muslims love JesusYeshuaIssa from their heart. Have you ever heard anything bad from the mouth of a Muslim about him or his mother Mary. Never, this is because Muhammad loved him so much. You may read the entire Quran , you would never find any hate word about Jesus or his mother Mary, it is all love of them both. Muhammad even allowed Christians to pray in his mosque called Masjadi Nabawi or the Prophet’s Mosque, that speaks of his resepect for the Christians and their religion; of course their may be differences of beliefs which could be resolved with peaceful and loving dialogue and gestures of love, which must be the true temperament of a true Christian, I think.

Thank you for being here and lending a support to bridging those gaps. I know some of the people here at CAF wail at the term “inter-religious dialogue”, but my short time here has thoroughly convinced me of the need!

Once again I agree. I believe the majority of Muslims in the world would rather just lead peaceful lives than be embroiled in religious conlict. Its a shame that the minority are so vocal.

The reason why is because news only sells when it reports bad things. Who would want to read about the majority of Muslims leading their daily lives in peace? The only news worthy muslims that sell are those that blow things up and scream death to infidels. The same holds true for others… when was the last time the news reported normal-peaceful-everyday Christians or Buddhists for example?

So true and so sad. This is why I was so disturbed to read comments on this thread that were derogatory to Muslims. As Christians we should know better. People need to realize that the unrest in the mid-east is not only because of Muslims. Christians have been involved in conflict in that region just for two-thousand years just as Muslims and Jews. Most of these conflicts are not due to intolerant religious doctrine but to clash of civilizations and misinterpretations of these religious doctrine.
 
Wow! It sounds like the Pope is really justified now for concentrating on Europe. The papacy in my opinion needs a more iron grip in order to keep these ridiculous things from happening. It is good to form good relations with other religions, but to build a building for the wrong way to worship the one true God is just wrong. The Catholic Church should stick to building churches; not mosques. Those funds could be used to save childeren in Africa, protect nuns from terrorists, help the Catholic Church in China, or print a Bible. But want does this priest do?.. he asks for money for a mosque. A building for another religion. The Vatican needs to look deeply into this. IMO the priest needs to be moved, and a more practical priest replace him.
