What movie or movies glorified the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War? Name one.

There was NO Communist dictatorship in Spain following Franco’s death. He died, he wasn’t de-throned. He wasn’t king of Spain, unless only in his own fascist mind.

Instead of fighting Hitler, Franco sent an army to fight against one of our most valuable allies!

If so, the Spaniards brought it on themselves.
How many Spanish Jews were shipped to Nazi death camps during World War II? How does that compare to the Jews in Italy and France?

I can only suggest that you research that as it’s off-topic.

No, it’s more the fact that he was a fascist oppressive dictator. It doesn’t matter which “side” he came from. An oppressive dictator is an oppressive dictator is an oppressive dictator, whether they’re communist or fascist.
I’ve never bought into “he’s a bstard, but he’s our bstard.”

What made Franco a fascist?
He, himself. In 1937, Franco reorganized the Fascist Party, renamed it the Falange Española Tradicionalista, and made it the official party of the Nationalist state.

General Franco was a hero of Christendom in Spain. He saved the Church from destruction by the Reds.

We need more men like him, and more parties like the FET y de las JONS. We need more virtue and patriotism, and less abortion and communism.

The answer is no Spanish Jews were sent to death camps while hundreds of thousands were shipped from France and Italy.
The
The Spanish were not faced with a choice between benevolent , as loving democracy and Franco, they were faced with the kind of brutal communist dictatorship that ruled Eastern Europe for 50 years after the war or Franco. There is no doubt that the Spanish were better off under Franco then those who suffered under communist rule in Eastern Europe for decades after the war. There is no doubt that Spanish Jews fared better under Franco than the Jews of Italy and France -in fact better than any Jews in Europe other than in Great Britain and Ireland. A

He was no hero to more people than he was a hero to others.

We destroyed fascism in 1945, and good riddance to fascism and fascists. Franco was despicable.

What was so nightmarish about Franco? He was a dictator, but he wasn’t a Hitler, Castro, Stalin, Pot, etc.
Because his regime murdered well over 200,000 dissenters during theWhite Terror. Add to that military support of hitler and the SS, overthrow of a legitimate government. Open embrace of franco possibly be the current Catholic position, is it?

He’s like Saddam Hussein, then. Saddam was a better leader vis-a-vis the Catholics in Iraq, and Franco was better vis-a-vis the Jews. Bring them both back, huh?

I wonder. There are undoubtedly Catholic Spaniards who’d like to see Franco canonized. 😦

Are you contending the Spanish would been better off had the Communists won the Civil War ? Although you may find it hilarious that was the choice -Franco or a communist dictatorship. But then I suspect you believe that Castro was a godsend for Cuba.

Anti-clericalism has to be put in historical context. There was some reason why this was so. The republican government replaced a prior military dictator, which presumably, had the support of the Church.

Wait, I’m confused.

Do the Franco supporters here contend that Franco respected individual rights, e.g. freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, protections from searches and seizures, due process, etc.?

Compared to 50 million dead babies, those ‘rights’ are worth about as much as dog **** scraped off the bottom of my shoe.
