Fake ‘Catholic Voters Guide’ Published by Former Aide to John Kerry
Attempt to recapture the Catholic vote launched by Democratic supporters

By John-Henry Westen
WASHINGTON, September 29, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An attempt to recapture the Catholic vote has been launched by Democratic supporters. A new 2006 Voter Guide has been put out by “Catholic in Alliance for the Common Good” (CACG) a group headed up by Alexia Kelley who in 2004 worked as a religion advisor to John Kerry in the closing weeks of his campaign.
An initial printing of one million copies of “Voting for the Common Good: A Practical Guide for Conscientious Catholics” will be distributed nationwide through on-the-ground organizers and partner networks in all 50 states, says CACG. The groups admits in a press release that the new voter guide is a response to the original “Catholic Voters Guide” issued by Catholic Answers last year.
The new voter guide has been described as “slick” by the Catholic League for its deceptive wording which falsely leads Catholics to consider abortion as just one of many important social justice issues to be taken into account when electing politicians.

I read their voter’s guide and it seems to be a good, well researched and thought out document.

I guess the question on helping the poor is that who should help the poor? Is it the governments responsiblity to do so? Are people being individually let off the hook by voting for tax and spend type candidate who set up social programs that perpetuate poor work ethics and the victim mentality.

Did Jesus preach to forget about the poor and let the Roman government handle it?

I could not find a list of founding members or board members and that made me suspicious.

It is a deliberate attempt to mislead Catholics. It fails to recognize the instrinic evil of some acts.

I didn’t find that. They list abortion as one of the most important issues Catholics need to consider.
You said it “one” of the most important issues. When you check this is the issue that makes or breaks the person you elect. If all of those running are in agreement with this (pro or con abortion) then you are to move on to the other issues.

Many voters seem to think that all the issues are equal. They are not. Cheap gas or the environment do not make a pro-death politician acceptable when a pro-life politician is also running. And pro-life does not mean just trying to reduce abortions it means trying to end abortions.

Don’t thinki the government can do anything about gas prices much as they would like to. The prices are set by OPEC.

You made my point. They can’t do anything about gas prices. But, they can calim to be able to do so. Some people vote their pocket books and forget the moral issue of “respect of life”.

Perhaps you don’t recognize abortion as a violation of human rights.
I’m not sure how you infer that.

There are other ways to reduce abortion. Consider this: over the past 26 years we’ve had 18 years of republican presidents and abortion is still legal. We’ve had 12 years of a republican controlled House of Representatives and abortion is still legal. How long has the senate been republican controlled? But still we have legalized abortion.

It seems to me that the republicans are not as pro-life as those that vote for them want to believe.

When we start talking compromise, as in reducing abortions instead of ending abortions, we give those on the fence a way out of voting PRO-LIFE. On important issues the filibuster seems to have been used more in the last 12 years then in any other period of our history. Many bill and laws have been passed. the courts have ruled them unconstitutional. Judges are not elected to the higher courts they are appointed and most of them are from Democratic times.

The biggest mistake the pro-life movement ever made was putting their hopes in the Republican party in 1980. It backfired. We put an end to abortion by principle not by relying on politicians.
