Sorry. I came across a little too aggressive

thanks @Pup7 for the reminder.

This is completely true.

Enter my grandmother’s church.

I sincerely believe that the reason my siblings and I (all of whom went with her at some point) were treated differently at her particular church was because they knew our dad was Catholic. I’m not kidding, either. Just snide remarks and blatant statements made by the preacher, of all people, as if we had something you could catch.
This can be about right on for my wife and kids’ parish, you just have to change it to “because they know dad isn’t Catholic”

Equally terrible. I have a very good idea of how that feels. I’m sorry you (and they) deal with that.

As I stated, I encountered this personally. Catholic response “I am catholic “ door closes.

Having experienced it recently at work, Just hearing that you are not only ‘Christian’ but a ‘Catholic’… The people in my work started acting well out of character. An experience that was all too traumatic as they started ranting and raving about the falsities of my beliefs and included complete strangers in heckling me for my beliefs 😦

None-the-less, i have remained strong, went to church the next day and felt relief wash over me. Satan does his best work to those who have fallen away to try and drag you with them. Apologies for the bleak look at it but i’m not going to go through life and not expect The Adversary to rear it’s head to act as an obstacle for all of us.

God Bless!

Holy smoke. I am so sorry that this happened to you.

That’s gotta be against some kind of company policy,

I thought that myself.

The nice thing about working under the Federal umbrella is all that is totally illegal.

Yeah, because not wanting to be bothered on the doorstep by unsolicited callers, and being polite enough to give a reason why they are not interested, instead of just shutting the door without comment is truly a mark of the pridefully spiritually superior…

I agree,

I was just answering informationally.

I am sure in the 22 years as an active Witness, someone tried to talk some sense into me, the blinders were on, I was in a cult and programmed to have certain responses.

For all of you Catholic people. Keep trying, it was an encounter with a Nun who caused me to start questioning the beliefs that I was born into.

Vividly:

Father and I were at the house of a nun, she would not talk to us and he was saying disparaging things about her. He said that she would die at Armageddon. She said that she took the easy road in that it was harder being a Witness than a Nun.

First time I think I was around 12 years old when I knew that what my father was saying was false, her life was not easier, why should she believe us or take a Watchtower, she had given up marriage and family for God and responding to people knocking at her door would not be the way for anyone who held strong beliefs.

I knew that if my father could be deceived or lie about this, then that there was much more that I likely had to reexamine.

I agree with that. I probably came across as snarkier than I intended.
But in all my years association with mainstream Christianity and also JWs, I have found that the vast majority of people don’t fail to engage on doorsteps and in the streets because they think of themselves as better. It’s usually because it is totally the wrong time, in their day to day lives, or their general life experience.
One of the things I really enjoy about Catholics I have known in person is that they don’t really ‘lead in’ with religion. They are much more likely to ask where you come from, or if you have a family and so forth. Spiritual things tend to come up once you have a rapport.
Evangelicals and JWs, particularly on the doorstep or in the street, are not ever really trying to get to know someone, and this really doesn’t encourage anyone to think about their own deeply held religious beliefs.

The biggest argument i hear is that “It is not in the Bible!” When discussing Catholic doctrine etc.
Which Bible? the one Jerome compiled at the behest of the leaders of the church in Rome? The actual only Bible handed down for 1200 years until Luther wrote his own, which is incidentally based on the Roman version compiled by Jerome. What those Protestants are saying is that we don’t believe in ourselves. Beyond ludicrous.
