95 - I’m not sure where I lost my 5 points!

Mane Nobiscum Domine,

Not a great “quiz”. I wonder who made it up?

It gives choices AND ascribes reasons and motives.

EG: The question about abstaining on Ash Wed. and Fridays in Lent, BECAUSE that’s all the Church requires. What about the person who does that, but not because that’s all the church requires? How do they answer?

In many ways, the quiz seems to be a product of someone who was over-educated in the social “sciences”, and had too much time on his hands.

Blessings,

Gerry

I am sure with ALL the great minds here at CAF, we could come up with a BETTER quiz. .
this is what we need to do

It told me I am a scientologist! :crying:
“And a bone chilling wind blew across the Catholic Answers landscape…”

ooooooooooh (that’s supposed to be a ghostly, sinister moan)

😛

Turns out I am a traditionalist just as I suspected…hmmm…
It is a good thing it didn’t have math problems and stuff!

I must complain that the questions on the survey were a little weak and need some work though.

Church Militant:
What Kind of Catholic Are You?

You scored 83, on a scale of 0 to 100. Here’s how to interpret your score:
0 - 30
You are a “recovering” Catholic.
30 - 50
You are a progressive Catholic.
50 - 70
You are a liberal Catholic.
70 - 80
You are a neo-traditionalist Catholic.
**80 - 100 **
**You are a traditionalist Catholic. **

I don’t feel like a traditionalist…

You scored 55, on a scale of 0 to 100. Here’s how to interpret your score:

0 - 30 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a “recovering” Catholic.
30 - 50 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a progressive Catholic.

50 - 70 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a liberal Catholic.
70 - 80 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a neo-traditionalist Catholic.
80 - 100 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a traditionalist Catholic.

I don’t feel that “liberal” (which these days seems (at least in the US) to mean “someone who eats babies for lunch, then has an orgy”) - and I’m not. Some of those questions were worded in such a way that they could not be truthfully answered.

My real score is probably 70 to 75.

As for this:

**You are a liberal Catholic
**You love the church, but you’d like to see some changes in certain areas–birth control, divorce, the role of women–where official teaching seems disconnected from contemporary experience.

Your favorite hymn is probably “On Eagle’s Wings”

I haven’t the faintest idea of the words or melody, and it is not

and your favorite pope is John XXIII.

Actually, I don’t have one - wrong again

You admire Dorothy Day and like the philosophy behind movies like “Dead Man Walking.”

I know next to nothing about either

IOW - trying to stereotype people from a few of their details is idiotic, and moronic in the extreme ##

Score 86 -Traditional…Sounds about right.

But looking at some of the questions others answered…it must have different versions. My quiz did not mention…the Bell’s of Saint Mary’s…my favorite movie. 😃

I love this quiz every time I take it:). Scored 87…it keeps going up…maybe it’s because I keep falling deeper in love with the Tridentine mass liturgy.

Peace in Christ,

DustinsDad

60 - It appears that I’m in the minority as a liberal. It makes sense though, since I grew up in the Milwaukee archdiocese, which is considered more progressive than most.

I got a 32… Progressive Catholic. Not sure I agree with that assessment…

You are a progressive Catholic
As far as you’re concerned, the church needs to make radical changes in its teachings and structure to bring about social justice, especially on issues relating to minorities and women. You admire people like Mitch Snyder and Daniel Berrigan, and think Catholics need to embrace the theology of writers like John Dominic Crossan. Your idea of a great movie is “The Last Temptation of Christ.”

Actually, I think I found my favorite hym: The litany of saints. They sang an updated version of it at JPII funeral and Benedict XVI’s inaguration. I heard it at JPII’s funeral (on TV), did not know what it was, but loved it. Here is a free MP3 version of the traditional version:

Catholic Dude:
That test is bogus, I scored an 86, but when I hit the back button I changed the second to last question to “abolish the papacy” and it reduced my score to 83! Still a traditionalist!

Also if I were to bet the meat on non lent friday is where everyone lost points.

It’s a pity the Pope can’t take it 😃

Somehow, I doubt he would get 100 % ##

Neat survey, though in a few cases I found it hard to answer, but picked the “closest” answer.

I feel I lean towards traditionalism a little.

Here is more about “me”:

I’m ok with that.

Actually, can’t say I know it. But I guess I must like it! 😉

There are two versions of it- which is not exactly helpful. 🙂 If you’ve heard something called “The Lourdes Hymn”, you’ll have heard one version of it at least.

Haven’t thought much about who is my favorite Pope, but he was pertty strong.

Haven’t seen it. Maybe I should.🙂

Never seen it - see “The Song of Bernardette” instead 🙂 Now that is a good film.

See the Internet Movie Data Base for more:

imdb.com/title/tt0037536/ - The Bells of St. Mary’s

imdb.com/title/tt0036377/ - The Song of Bernardette

It’s odd that "The Scarlet and the Black " was not suggested: imdb.com/title/tt0086251/ - so much for no modern films being made which put the the CC in a decent-ish light ##
I do not feel Vat. II is in itself the source of all our problems, but “the Spirit of Vat. II” sure is. They really need a category in between Trad and neo-Trad to capture this.

Cannot place “Gift of Finest Wheat”, may have sung it, doubt it is my favorite. I cannot say JPII is my favorite Pope, but I feel great affection for him. I liked “The Passion”, and hope that Mel Gibson is not sedevanticist.

The questions left very little room for those who are doctrinally orthodox and also pastorally sensitive - to be “orthodox” is apparently to be heartless (which is not true in real life, even though it can be supported anecdotally. It’s a grossly unfair generalisation). The same could be said, mutatis mutandis, of the other types of Catholic.

Gottle of Geer:

Actually I did buy the Song of Bernadette for my daughters (and us). It is a cute film. My oldest daughter was asking for it yesterday, but we could not find it.
