I got an even 60 –
You love the church, but you’d like to see some changes in certain areas–birth control, divorce, the role of women–where official teaching seems disconnected from contemporary experience.
Eh, pretty true, but I don’t think we should change our stance on divorce or ordination of women, I think we should allow priests to be married if they wish – DH would love to be a priest –
Your favorite hymn is probably ā€œOn Eagle’s Wingsā€ and your favorite pope is John XXIII.
I do love that song šŸ™‚ but I don’t know my Popes, I’m a convert …
You admire Dorthy Day and like the philosophy behind movies like ā€œDead Man Walking.ā€
Dead Man Walking was an excellent book and movie –

I think they pegged me pretty good all in all –

Hmmm…
I got a 24 which makes me a ā€œrecovering Catholicā€ and all along I thought I was a pretty middle of the road traditionalist yet slightly left of center Catholic.

You scored 94, on a scale of 0 to 100. Here’s how to interpret your score:

0 - 30 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a ā€œrecoveringā€ Catholic.
30 - 50 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a progressive Catholic.
50 - 70 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a liberal Catholic.
70 - 80 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a neo-traditionalist Catholic..
80 - 100 http://www.beliefnet.com/imgs/x.gif
You are a traditionalist Catholic.

Boy, if I took this poll two years ago, I’ll bet I would have scored ~70.

Am I wrong to assume that it seems to me that the order this was made it implies the present church is lesser relative to the ā€œtraditionalistā€?

According to what is implied you would place John Paul II as well as the current Pope Benedict XVI in the numerically lesser 70-80 rage.

Those that seem to be proud to state they are in the 90 or above group seem to be proud to make such statement. However, it seems they probably agree with heretics such as the SSPX movement which are not in communion with the the Vatican.

As I stated earlier, since I believe, that Jesus in Matthew 16:16-19 DOES give Peter(and his successors) the ablility to bind and loosen then I have to be among the most traditionalist in my belief of Vatican II as there was no change in the actual faith… it was simply a updating of the Roman rite in order to make more effective in teaching the masses.

By the way while I’m not absolutely positive I do believe Mel Gibson Catholism IS sedevanticanistic.

Micael,

You may be quick to judge. I may have ā€œscoredā€ a 90+ (couple posts up) but yet I am in full agreement with our current Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI and the church. And, yes I am a bit proud of my score; but more for myself actually. I answered the survery/poll questions honestly and felt that my journey has been in the right direction…towards holiness…if that poll can be any indication. Pray for those that are not in full communion with the Church. Just as we need to be prayed for, they do too.

Peace,

It said I was a traditionalist. Not surprised. But actually:
  1. My favorite hymn is not Immaculate Mary. It is Panis Angelicus.
  2. I don’t know anything about Pius X. I guess I better do some reading.
  3. the Bells of St. Mary’s bored me stiff. Did not make it through the movie.
so, I’m not sure how accurate this quiz is, but it was fun.

I replied that I was A Progressive Catholic.

I am not sure. I believe in all the traditions and apolegetics of the Catholic Church.
So looking back I think I would have to say I am a Tradionaliat.
I follow the teachings from the Holy Father, even though at times it seemed painful. Reflecting on those times I thought were painful, I saw the wisdom of those decisions through the power of prayer and grace. I was glad I followed through no matter the consequence at the time. Some of those decisions have put me at odds with my own family for the last 30 years. For example invitro-fertilization, gay relationships, waiting until marriage, living together. Know, that I know I am not without sin, but I have the sacrament of Reconciliation to keep me close to God.
My mother in law sat me down and explained the teaching of the church. While I thought it was selfish of the church to tell me how to have children I ā€œlet it goā€ and respected the teaching even though I did not understand! Then through prayer I saw the wisdom of the teaching. We prayed for children and for 15 years, none came. I was beginning to feel I might become an Elizabeth, having a child in my ā€œold ageā€ When I (we) finally accepted it was never going to be. A wonderful opportunity literally knocked on our door asking us to adopt the child of a young woman who did not want a baby. We invited her in, heard her story and said YES!
My brother is ā€œgayā€ I tried to explain to him the teaching of the church and that I did not could not approve of the lifestyle choices he is making. But… as my brother and a child of God I would always love him, not the sin of homosexuality. We (my entire family), have agreed we can not talk about politics and religion. As I am a cradle Catholic whose whole family (parents, six siblings and their spouse and children) has fallen away from the church, her teachings and her love. Everyday I try to keep them all in my prayers and I try to live by example so maybe they will come home.

Scored an 82. Seems about right I guess (maybe a little low, lol)šŸ™‚

well, I scored 86, so I guess that makes me a Traditionalist. I thought some of their answers were worded a little goofy, however šŸ™‚

I scored 66 - Liberal Catholic.

Funny, I don’t feel like a liberal. In fact, I was thinking last night that I actually lean to the conservative side of things.

I’m in agreement with many here. There were too many questions, nearly half, where there just wasn’t a good answer for me at all. Going back and forth between bad answers I could come out anywhere from mid-lberal to pretty high neo-trad. I probably do fall into that range–pretty traditional on most things, but very V2 on others–but it shouldn’t take me 4 times doing the quiz to establish that. 😦

John
ā€œBlessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God.ā€

I scored 80 but I always figured I was a Neo Traditionalist, and when I read the ā€˜More about you’ section for Neo Traditionalist is also seems to describe me. Although my favourite hymn is ā€˜Be Not Afraid’. The Traditionalist explanation didn’t really describe me as well. I guess that’s why I was an 80 which is just on the cusp of the the Neo-Trad vs. Trad.
