You can read past issues, and some of the current issue at:

crisismagazine.com/

My new issue arrived - so, I have to go read it now!
This looks very, very interesting. Thank you very much.

Hey don’t forget about “Columbia.” 😃

Guys you can get a free subscription by joining the Knights of Columbus. 👍

Well, the website is firstthings.com/, and they archive all their issues. I suggest reading a few articles. Its subtitle is The journal of Religion, Culture, and the Public Life. The writing is excellent and orthodox. I love it.

The February issue article by the Pope is particularly good. 😃

If you like an orthodox Catholic magazine that’s written wittily and with an “edge”, you might like “New Oxford Review”…no pretty pictures here, but well written. newoxfordreview.org/

Catholic Answer seems to be a populr suggestion, and I found it pretty cheap on magazines.com.
Are those suggesting *The Catholic Answer *recent subscribers!?

:twocents: I thought it went wa-ay downhill when it went through an editorial and format change a couple of years ago (ie when founding editor Fr Peter M J Stravinskas was replaced). I let my subscription lapse and have resisted going back.

Anything but National Catholic Reporter. Anything.
For most of the same reasons, also avoid St. Anthony Messenger. My mother’s had a subscription for years and it has gone from a pretty solid publication to a forum for all the dissident baby boomer religious that are sadly plaguing my beloved Franciscans. I was at her house recently and upon reading it was downright shocked at several statements, either from interviews or their own writers.

Anyone read this magazine? Is it good & worth getting? I have an opportunity to order a subscription for little $$ & was wondering if it’s good worthwhile reading.

Thanks in advance for your comments, boardmates!🙂

I had a year subscription for awhile.

I was less than thrilled with it.

It did seem to reflect many American’s attitude towards Catholicism - ie I am an American and have the freedom to do as I please and Rome will not tell me otherwise.

Just my opinion though.

It should be titled US Dissenter, US Cafeteria Catholic, or US Make it up as you go along. Total waste of time and money and downright dangerous.

I think it was that magazine about which someone once commented, “Why don’t you just give them rat poison and get it over with!”

Their take on things is definitively popular, social oriented, leftist Catholicism. They have some things of worth to offer. (They helped to promote the start of Dorothy Day’s cause for canonization, for example). And if you wish to understand where this branch of Catholics is coming from, then it would offer valuable insight. But it’s not necessarily considered the most orthodox, faith building publication around.

I absolutely do not recommend this magazine to anyone! I made the mistake of getting a subscription to this magazine a while back (at the time I was unaware of all the great publications such as “This Rock” and “Catholic World Report”.)

The percentage of good articles to bad is 25% good / 75% bad.

I wrote letter to the editors on the articles which taught contradictory to the Catholic Faith. I got no response and of course none of my letters were published. I wrote to them to cancel my subscription and again no response. I still get the magazine. When I get it, I RIP IT and TRASH IT!

I don’t believe in the labels of “liberal” or “conservative” Catholic. Your either a Catholic that follows the scripture, magisterium and apostolic tradition or your not a Catholic!

For Life,
Gregorio R.

I’m glad you asked this question, because I was also considering this magazine. Can others make recommendations on the best Catholic magazines and publications?
