“Dozens of Catholic Memorial students attending Friday’s game against Newton North High School were overheard yelling, ‘‘You killed Jesus’’ to Newton North fans.”

Subsequent articles give a broader perspective and describe the response by the CM administration…Nonetheless, the charge of Deicide was repudiated formally by the Church in Nostra Aetate issued by Vatican II in large measure in response to the Shoah which had its roots in the anti-Semitism grounded in the Gospel story of the Passion. That Boston Catholics in particular were ignorant of this is particularly disturbing, since Cardinal Cushing was one of the main promoters of Nostra Aetate as well as the stern opponent of Fr. Feeney who preach anti-Semitism clothed in the mis-understood Dogma of Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus.

The seeds of Fascism which once sprouted in Catholicism in Italy, Spain, Portugal…and Bavaria (as well as in the person of Fr. Coughlin in the USA) in the '20s and '30s are sprouting again.

St. Josephat pray for us
Bl. Cardinal Stepinac pray for us.
Both St. Josephat and Cardinal Stepinac are controversial figures in non-Catholic circles.

Christ died to atone for all of mankind’s sins(past, present and future) so we all can share in the blame for the events of that first “Good Friday”

Newton North fans should have replied to the taught with " You did too".

The Romans some Jewish leaders and a mob that were the participants in the events of Christ’s passion and death not all the Italians and Jews of then or the future.

Besides being offensive, do the Catholic Memorial students realize how such a chant sounds in 2016, it should sound just as idiotic as the students of Fort Worth Pascal shouting at students of Dallas Skyline: " You killed Kennedy"

“Be merciful, just as your heavenly father is merciful”

On the long list of taunts that anyone might make against another school’s athletes, why would “You killed Jesus” even be an option?

(I mean, maybe if the other school were St. Pontius Pilate Coptic High School’s Fighting Centurions, it might be a tiny little temptation, but…)

No matter what the other school said, a Catholic school should never engage in sacrilegious, blasphemous talk that insults their own Lord’s blood relatives and demeans His sacrifice.

Agreed, in context this is much ado about nothing. Same kind of adolescent garbage my own Catholic school and others engaged in with each other in the heat of competition both on and off the court. I mean hell, other school, both Catholic and otherwise, had a song they used to love to chant at us during games that was along the lines of what was being chanted at Catholic Memorial.

Is it right what they both were saying to each other, no. But is it as big of a deal as it’s being made out to be… no.

Wow.

Catholic schools are interesting but I never thought fascism would sprout again in them. Watch out guys one of them is the next Hitler…:eek::eek: 😉

We need better quality in Catholic schools today…asap.

Last month, the entire student body of St. Petersburg Catholic High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, was called together to hear a deceptive presentation on “Islamophobia” from the notorious Ahmed Bedier, who openly supports the jihad terror group Hezbollah and has worked for the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
CAIR exists in the US because it doesn’t fund Hamas yet it is linked to Hamas. :tsktsk:

All this doesn’t bode well for the future of Catholic schools.

Get aligned with the Church…quickly.

I completely agree. They are just kids and they should be entitled to such inanities and subsequent admonishments.

If there were really any deep-seated ethnic or religious hostility (“anti-semitism”), I daresay the chants would have been rather worse than “you killed Jesus”.

Given what’s happening with the Republican Party it is not over the top at all.

The problem is it sounds to Jews like a resurgence of Nazi propaganda - especially with what we are seeing in the GOP Presidential campaign.

Actually for Jews this is a big deal…and that Catholics can’t, won’t or don’t see it says volumes.

Not paying attention to the GOP are you.

Who needs the Republican party to push it over the top?

I listened to the full hour plus speech this guy gave to impressionable Catholic teenagers and frankly I was shocked this was allowed to happen.

Who is overseeing what happens in Catholic schools?

Yes, INDEED.

Do you know that in my Catholic high school, only I and a small group of other souls kneel at the consecration at Mass? We are like a little remnant…and it’s scary…

I don’t know why people keep bringing this up. All the GOP candidates love the Jews.

Trump does a lot of business with Jews, advocates greater support of Israel, and is related to some Jews by family.

YES he has been compared to Hitler, but only by people who really don’t get how Hitler operated.

Do you HONESTLY see the GOP as committing the next Holocaust of the Jews?

These people who all support Israel, are going to be the resurgence of Naziism???
I don’t think the analogy is being made because of a specific anti-semitic angle (though so far a few of Trump’s supporters would definitely consider themselves anti-semetic). No the angle being taken by Trump is decidedly more anti-Immigrant and anti-Muslim than it is Anti-Semitic. That’s not to say Trump is the next Hitler in the making. But there are some parallels to the early rise of the The National Socialist German Workers’ Party that have thus far been more than a little disturbing. That said some of the responses to that have also been disturbing in their own right including attacks on free speech and the media’s seeming fascination with pumping Trump and his rhetoric up rather than not feeding the troll.

I think the rise of any politician could be paralleled to the rise of any other. I mean, people often cite that Trump causes people to be afraid of one group to compare him to Hitler.

But doesn’t Bernie Sanders cause fear of the rich high class? See, you can compare that to Hitler too. Hitler hates big bankers.

Anyways, I think people over compare to Hitler. It’s almost as if Hitler is no longer a name, just a swear word. It’s like he has no real history, he is just what people compare others to to insult them.

*EDIT: I think I should be clear, I am definitely NOT a Trump fan, so I am not just biased for him. *

Perhaps people are paying as much attention to the Republican Party as they are to the Democrats.

But this thread isn’t about political parties; it is about high school students who have far more hormones than wisdom or common sense.

Perhaps if we keep the discussion to the subject - high school students - we can keep this thread from going totally off the rails?

As a current high school student myself, I can say that in general, high school students do really stupid things. A lot.

Basically sums this whole thing up 😉
