This makes me very angry.

When I was in training (in Canada) we were assured that we would never be forced to participate in an abortion. It was stated that we would never have to prepare a woman for an abortion or directly participate in one. We would, however, not be able to refuse to look after a woman post-abortion since they were to be treated like any other gynecological surgery patient. That was acceptable to me, after all, I couldn’t refuse to look after anyone else who had killed but required post-surgical nursing.

She was certainly in a very difficult position. Her choices were both awful. On one hand, she could participate in the murder of a child 22 weeks in utero, but on the other, she could lose her job if she refused. I wonder what would have happened had she chosen to decline to participate in the abortion, had been charged with “insubordination and patient abandonment.” Then the result would likely have been disciplinary action and the possible loss of her job and nursing license. I think that would have been the way to go with a lawsuit following without having to deal with participating in an abortion. But, I recognize that I am seeing the situation in retrospect and not up close and personal and having to make such a dreadful decision on a time constraint. She was the one who had to live it and it should never have happened at all. We are living in awful times when doctors and nurses are put in such positions.

The really frightening thought to me is that those who choose a career in medicine because they care about all of their fellow man including the very youngest might be forced out leaving those who have no qualms about killing babies. My sister is a nurse. She is warm, caring, funny and she loves her job helping people face health issues and get through them. If she and others like her are forced out, I shudder to think of doctors and nurses who support abortion being the only ones left in the health field.

That is a really scary thought, but I almost wonder if that is the end game of all this. Right now in the health bill that Obama is trying to rush through, there is funding for abortion. They are tyring to force us, as taxpayers, to pay for the killing of our children whether we want to or not. He has already succeeded in Washington, D.C., where the abortion rate is currently 41%. I guess he really wants to kill all of them. In Harlem, here in New York, the abortion capital of the United States, the abortion rate is 60%. Isn’t it interesting that so many of these abortions are minorities? Are these the populations that Justice Ginsberg said “we don’t want too many of”?

One priest said to me that Obama will be our first and last black president because he is going to kill them all. I’m afraid he may be right. 😦

We have to remember to pray for all those in the health care field who are right on the front lines and will be paying the price for standing up for what they believe in. This is the fight agains evil in our time. We have to be supporting each other and praying as much as we can.

I expect that eventually, if ObamaSCARE is enacted, that they will force healthcare workers to murder (abortion, infanticide, euthanasia) or face criminal persecution (yes, I said persecution, not prosecution).

I also predict that those who try to walk away from their chosen profession will be forced back in the name of “national security”.

Welcome to the USSA

Coming soon to a hospital near you… unless you call your legislators right now and tell them they will lose their job next election. Fire them!

Why wait until the next election. For those who have the ability to recall them, DO IT!!

I hope she wins her lawsuit. This is a terrible situation.

That being said, I have to object to the word “forced” in the title. We throw that term around too loosely. She had choice in this situation between her job and her conscience. While the consequences of losing your job are serious, it isn’t life-threatening, and I don’t think we should consider that kind of pressure to literally be “force” in the sense that we have no choice.

I would just hate to hear catholics start whining about being “forced” to participate in abortions, and going along with it, when in fact the only threat that should be serious enough to make us participate in murder would possibly be the threat of being murdered ourselves. (Hopefully even that threat wouldn’t be enough).

Not only her job but her nursing license to boot. The day will come, I am afraid, that medical professionals will be not only loosing their jobs if they do not comply, but they will be loosing their freedom and probably their lives as well. We will probably have a few more martyrs in heaven. (a few years ago, this would have been a way over the top statement… today it is within the realm of possibility)

But in the meantime…let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.😉

I don’t mean to judge her, not at all.

I just hope this doesnt’ become the accepted attitude of catholics in the future “well, i have no choice, i would lose my job”

What do you think will happen? How often does it happen right now? If I do not ___________, which is against my faith, then I will lose my job. I need my job.

I guess it depends on the situation.

I don’t object to the word “forced” because a Catholic nurse should never have to choose between her conscience and her job. I can’t say I’m surprised but its still terrible.

Also my fellow Canadians this reminds me of David Packer, the police officer who refused to guard Morgentaler’s Abortion Clinic in 1987! Remember that?

There was only one choice for her. Do not participate.
Even if she lost her job, her conscience would have remained free.
I would rather lose my job and end up on the street than make my money from murder.

David Packer is a Catholic hero.He asked to be excused from guarding the abortuary but was refused because the city government was at the time(still is)comprised of leftists and pro-abortionists who tried to make an example of him.Other police officers had their religious scruples respected and were excused from duties that conflicted with their faith, but not Packer. He refused to guard the Butcher’s Shop and was fired.

David Packer has passed his particular test and I believe that upon his death he will be welcomed by Christ with a definitive,“Well done, dood and faithful servant.”

I am working on a nursing degree, and this terrifies me. I will never participate in an abortion. As a previous poster mentioned, I would help care for a woman after an abortion, though. I hope to work at a truly Catholic hospital.

I feel bad for the nurse who will live with the memory forever.

I wouldn’t be able to do it. If I tried I’m sure I would have had to leave the room (probably sick) in the middle of the procedure if I could even go in the room in the first place. You can’t predict how someone who strongly believes it’s murder would react. They took a real risk. For all I know I would go berserk or something, trying to prevent it. They certainly would have to pay for some sort of Post Traumatic Stress therapy and probably time off afterwards.

I’m sure I would let myself be fired first. Couldn’t imagine being anywhere near it.

Then the lawsuit to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Sometimes people just don’t think :nope:

Understandably nope, we don’t want catholics giving in easily. Hopefully, if this starts happening on a increasing level, catholics and all christians who believe this is wrong will revolt!!
