if the parish priest doesn’t obey the bishop, isn’t he in schism?

Until the Church begins laying down the law, these types of things will only grow in frequency.

I’m reading some of the stuff on the FB page and I’m just like “wow”… like speechless.
I have some gay friends, I don’t approve of their lifestyle but I try to show them the love of God anyway. I’m not the judge, God is… but when I read something like this (from the FB page):
Church of Saint Francis Xavier NYC Happy Anniversary LGBT Groups. Over 20 years of service and support
I am so PROUD!!
Remember “All are Welcome”
John Weber

and then a comment to the above:
Kristie Helms
I started attending St. Francis in 1998 before I was out. On the way to mass one week, I was met by two angels. They asked me where 6th Ave was. I told them and they ran off wishing me, “Happy Pride!” I followed them instead of going to mass, later came out and am now happily (legally!) married to my wife of 10 years in Boston. I always treasure the memory of this church and welcome I received there. I mean. Met by angels!

I have to wonder if she wasn’t “out” when she started attending there, but then later felt so accepted and thinks angels were accepting that she not only came “out” but ‘married’ her lesbian lover, I just have to wonder, really, where is the line that this parish should have drawn if they advocate gay marriage?
I think maybe a Bishop should step in if this kind of stuff is going on.

if this is a Jesuit parish, should they be reported to the Jesuits? how much authority has the local Archbishop have over the religious priests?

since they are there at his leisure then i am assuming he can kick them out

Nothing will happen to them. It never does.

People wonder why so many won’t attend mass or walk away from the faith. Here you have a Bishop specifically saying “No” to a proposed action, and they go ahead and do it anyway. Well, if they can do that, why should anyone believe the Bishop when he says respect life, or grow in holiness, or simply go to mass? Must be optional, just like attending the parade.

All this does is convince more and more people that Bishops either don’t care, or are incapable of running anything 100 yards beyond the property of the Cathedral, neither of which is a good thing.

What do you imagine a guy like Bishop Sheen might have done when presented with such a case? What would the Holy Father do about it if he were the Bishop?

This same parish holds Zen meditation and wants to dissent even further…

This is the Facebook page of St. Francis Xavier parish where it states “all are welcome” and you see a rainbow carpet on the altar steps. God help us!

👍 I understand. “All are Welcome” as Christ commands us to love of neighbor, and we are all sinners. I would welcome those of alternative lifestyles to attend Mass. Rainbow floor layout? NO. But this involvement in a LGBT event just flat out crosses the line. It would be like I would promote an LGBT event at my parish fall festival carnival event. THIS IS SO WRONG AND MORTAL SIN.

Zen meditation? This is so “new-age”. Idolatry, worship of false gods. A violation of the First Commandment.

What’s next, “so-called womens ordination”? I’ll bet SFX parish will probably try to pull this next “stunt”.

Jesuits. They started out during around Protestant Reformation, to return the Catholic church back to order. Today I don’t know where they “fell off”.

Disobedience to Archbishop Dolan who is being obedient to Jesus Christ and the Holy See? What is it with parishes being “dissident”? Like the Catholic Church is some sort of “democracy”?

Father Pfleegler in Chicago about the “women priests”?

Father Cutie in Miami? Thank God he got laicized by his archbishop.

I’m just trying to get over my headache from another post on Archbishop Wuerl’s problem understanding Canon Law 915 and allowing Nancy Pelosi to receive Holy communion. Now this SFX parish involvement in alternative lifestyle events. Now I’m really going to be sick.

Catechism of the Catholic Church 2357 to 2359 on chastity and Homosexuality.

I’m sorry. Do priests in general have a Catechism in their possession? Are some of these priests thinking they are so smart they want to be totally ignorant of what is in the Catechism.

Joe biden and Nancy Pelosi has got the Catholic Church all under their control so on next Sunday 6/20/2010, we all pay homage to our “lords” in Washington D.C… NOT!!!

I was gone from the Church from 1982-2001. I’m back and I’ll stay with the Catholic Church to the grave.

WE MUST OBEY GOD RATHER THAM MEN!

Acts of heartbreaking disobedience.
Both the parish and parishoners need to repent
and make amends to their bishop and to the Church.

There is no indication in the article that the priest disobeyed the bishop. What the article says is that the parish’s LGBT ministry produced a flyer which used the St. Francis Xavier name. Its entirely possible that lay people running the ministry created this flyer without the consent or knowledge of the priest.

The parade will not happen for two weeks. That’s plenty of time for things to get straightened out.

You may be right, but you need to be careful with voicing opposition as their are many people on these threads that are of the opinion that if you waiver one tiny, itsy bitsy teenie weenie bit from what they hold to be true will attack, belittle and do their utmost to dehumanize you…just wait…they may be coming…maybe coming?..she is coming for you……oh no…help us dear god…

Ok, I’ve emailed both the priest and assoc priest of this parish. I’m currently hunting for the Archbishop’s email address so I can forward a copy of my email to them to the Archbishop.
My email was basically a plea with them to do the right thing, while asking them if they had done as this article suggested and went against the Archbishop. I also mentioned that according to some comments I’d seen on their own facebook page that it appeared that even if they weren’t currently advocating the LGBT lifestyle and gay marriage that some of their parishioners seem to think it’s ok and seem to think that the Church is supportive of this.
My email was written in the attempt to get them to first set the record straight and clarify if in fact they are supportive of this lifestyle, and if they are going against their Archbishop or not. Also, that if they are, to hopefully get them to step back and look at what they are really doing to not only their own parish, but others that are not Catholic watching this happen, new Catholics that may not know their Faith as they should, and Cradle Catholics that again may not know the teachings of the Church as they should.
I wrote the email in a non confrontational way, which hopefully one or both of them will respond to.
If anyone knows how I can find Archbishop Dolan’s email address so I can forwad this email to him, that would be great. 🙂

(edited to add in a clarifying word)

Very good.
I applaud you.

Well, I see that the senior priest there at least read it and sent a return receipt, hopefully he’ll respond.
I still haven’t found the Archbishops email address either.

I’ve found an email address to reach Archbishop Dolan now. I advised his office that we as faithful Catholics would stand behind him if he does the right thing in this situation.

Excellent. Thank you.

Well, they’re protestant then aren’t they?
If you ignore the Magisterium are you really Catholic?
