i realized that bishops and priests live in total fear of being persecuted and that is why they have shed their garments so they no longer can be recognized as Catholics.

they no longer speak with authority for fear of being persecuted. they are ashamed of their own Faith.

just look at them, they all look like politicians in suite. they are more concerned with social issues, like human rights which also includes gays rights and so forth. these kind of things makes them popular and loved by the world.

May God have mercy on us.

Your post seems outlandish to me.
I’m a 64 yr-old cradle Catholic.
I’ve lived in various parts of the country
I’ve known quite a few priests and a few bishops too.

I’ve know none who “feel” or act or dress as you describe above.
Where on earth do you live?
I’m living in the United States. Are you?

Indeed, always, may God have mercy on us.

The one single reason would be to offer guidance and support to that community so that they could live chaste lives in accordance with Christ and His Church.
There is a group that does that. Courage:

I have to say that having a LGBT group in a parish is begging dissent from authentic Catholic teaching.

I’m sorry to post this but if the Archbishop said no without backing it up with his authority in the diocese he is just as guilty of allowing it to happen and should take legal action to dismiss the Jesuit priest and appoint a new pastor over the parish with direction of what is to be taken. How the bishops don’t do this is exactly what led me out of the Church 22 years ago. If no body practices what they teach us then how are we to believe it or them?🤷
Don’t be too hard on Archbishop Dolan. It appears this parish is a Jesuit apostalate, not just a diocisan parish staffed by religious priests. The AB doesn’t have the authority to dismiss the pastor or to appoint anyone there. He does have the “big gun” to remove the priest’s faculties to celebrate the Sacraments in the diocese but I believe he is trying diplomacy first.

Frankly, the parish group has a semi-defensible position because they claim they are leafletting at the parade in order to bring people back to the Church. On the surface, that’s a laudable goal. Looking around the website, this is the least of their “errors”. They also have a picture of an early Church female “bishop.”

I’ve found an email address to reach Archbishop Dolan now. I advised his office that we as faithful Catholics would stand behind him if he does the right thing in this situation.
Could you send me the archbishops e-mail address? Thanks.

Diplomacy? Come on, you know that won’t work. The guys been out of whack for a long time. But I do see your point and retract my statements. It just frustrates me that these guys are allowed to call themselves Catholic without getting railroaded like they deserve. The local Catholics should picket in front of this groups heretic group home.😉

An early church picture of a female “bishop”? What did they do invent a time machine?

None of us can know, unless we personally know the people in the parade, if the LGBT folks at Xavier are engaging in sinful activity, or if they are faithful to their call to chastity. I think it’s unfair to assume that participation in a gay activity presumes that people are living in sin.
Hi again nycatholickat,
I actually went to the parish site looking for a pic someone else said they found, then I found the parish members profiles.
The one I’m about to link kind of makes it sound like the parish is in support of the LGBT lifestyle. I mean, the guys boyfriend was already a member of the parish, they hook up, and he gets invited, finds everyone so excepting that he joins too?? Maybe I’m reading this wrong?
There are others there that kind of echo this one:

Excellent testimonial; however, he implies that he found a parish community that accepts him as he is without being admonished to forgo his homosexual lifestyle rather than him being the one who had the change of heart.

It seems the idea that this parish has of being welcoming as Jesus would have done has deluded and deceived some from the truth. Certainly, I would agree with them that Jesus was welcoming; he invited all to come to know him and the One who sent him. But what did this invitation, this welcoming, include. Of course, it was to come to know God in a personal and intimate manner… to know that God loves us - each of us individually – unconditionally. However, also included in the invitation to come to Him is the admonition to repent. Jesus proclaimed forgiveness of sins, but while God’s love is unconditional, His forgiveness is very conditional; it’s conditional upon repentance, being humble and contrite of heart, which is why Jesus stated, “Repent and believe in the gospel,” or “Repent, or you will likewise perish,” or “Go and sin no more,” or "Be holy as your heavenly Father is holy.” Also, the idea of change and preparedness was illustrated in many of Jesus’ parables. So the welcoming is incomplete and disingenuous if we are merely being welcoming to accommodate others in their sin without admonishing them to repent. Jesus illustrated this when the man who responded to the master’s invitation came to the wedding feast, yet was cast out because he was not wearing the proper wedding garment (an indication that he was not prepared or properly disposed). Or where Jesus clearly teaches how a local church community is to deal with an erring brother after he refuses to repent following fraternal correction; Jesus – this very welcoming Jesus - says that the church is to treat the unrepentant brother as an outsider. Similarly, St. Paul passed judgment on a man in the Church in Corinth for his immorality and commanded that the community ostracize this man until he should repent. Obviously, Jesus and St. Paul were welcoming, but clearly not in the manner that this parish implies.

You mean like this one:

Or how about this one:

"While waiting for Mass to begin, I began reading the bulletin. I noticed the different committees listed and became angry immediately. I said to her, “Didn’t I tell you I would not go to Mass again unless it was a Catholic church?” She said, “It is, look at the front of the bulletin.” I showed her the bulletin and said, “Then how are they getting away with this?” "

notice… “Then how are they getting away with this?” Enough said… this is apparently a heretical church community.

Okay, now I’m convinced that the pastors of this parish are heterodox, apparently not enduring sound teaching but rather putting forth teachings that tickle the ears of their congregants - either that, or seriously derelict in their shepherding duties. It’s hard to imagine that they do not know that this is going on in their parish.

But since the bishop specifically gave instructions that no parish group participate, we can say that the sin of disobedience was prominent.
Maybe.

Again, the article doesn’t say that the LGBT ministry, which produced and distributed the flyer, was informed of the archbishop’s instruction prior to their action. If they were, and did so anyways, then they acted in disobedience to his authority. But we don’t know whether or not they knew of the instruction in advance, so it is rash to pass judgment on them.

The parade will not take place for another 10 days or so, which is plenty of time to get the situation straightened out. If you choose to write, phone or email, please be respectful and accurate in expressing your concern. And, please, don’t claim disobedience occurred since we do not know that it did. It is enough to point out that the flyer, and intention to attend the parade as parish representatives, are in violation of Archbishop Dolan’s instruction.

I think the overwhelming evidence per their own website and Facebook account clearly demonstrates that this parish has no regards for the Catholic Church’s teaching on homosexual lifestyle. Aside from any statement from the archbishop, they are clearly disobedient to the catholic and apostolic faith. They are simply a dissident, heterodox parish that would be more accurately depicted as an Episcopal church.

i dont know the whole story, but based on what say, i wonder. dont they know that by the teachings of the Church that homosexuality acts are a sin? do they need the bishop to tell them this?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I admit, this issue is a difficult one. In fact, some things were fuzzy in my mind, and some of you helped me see things more clearly.

I do believe the parish is wrong if they march in the parade under the banner of the parish. This would disobey the bishop, which is wrong.

I guess I do have some disagreement with the bishop’s decision since participating in the has always been advertised in the parish as a way to reach out to gay people and welcome them into the Church, complete with the Church’s teachings about the sinfulness of homosexual activity. I think that is a holy thing to be doing.

From what I understand, the LGBT group is asking people to march “on their own” in the parade-- there WILL NOT be a church banner and it will not be a church-sponsored event as it has been in the past.

Also, you should know that the LGBT group is only one group in the parish. By no means is it a “gay parish”.

I know few of you on this board have been to the parish. Please don’t let some overexposure of one group’s “news” give you the impression that this is all that is going on in the parish.

Yes, I read it and took it at face value. The priest was informed that the parish shouldn’t take part. And the parish LGBT ministry issued a flyer with the parish name.

That doesn’t mean that the priest was able to communicate the archbishop’s instruction to the LGBT ministry, before they released the flyer. Or perhaps he was able to relay the instruction and the LGBT ministry decided to go ahead anyways. Or perhaps the priest decided to keep quiet about the archbishop’s instruction. The article doesn’t say what exactly happened - it simply gave two pieces of information, which aren’t necessarily related to one another.

To assume that the priest is guilty of some kind of insubordination is not justified by what is in the article. Most of the people in this thread are jumping to conclusions which may be true, or may not be true. But to impugn the character of the priest in the absence of information showing he committed a misdeed is slanderous.
Uh, yeah, right. Using your logic, the president of BP is not responsible for the oil spill in the gulf, nor is a ship’s captain responsible for a serious error on the part of a crewman. If the pastor did not inform or enforce the bishops instruction, he is, at best, derelict The pastor is ultimately responsible for everything that happens in the name of the parish. That includes all groups who may march in a parade with a parish banner or promote an immoral event on parish property.

I agree.

Not necessarily. Again, we lack information about what exactly transpired, and over what time frame. Yes, the priest was informed by the archbishop and needed to pass that instruction along to everyone in his parish. And then to make sure the archbishop was followed.

However, we don’t know if the flyer was produced before or after the archbishop informed the priest.

And we don’t know if the LGBT ministry, if informed, decided to ignore the instruction. If so, then the priest needs to take action to see that the flyer is withdrawn and that no further activities along that line occur.

But we need more information before we can reliably pass judgment on the priest and the parishioners.

I find trying to follow and unravel your mental gymnastics too exhausting. My logical and rational mind, which constantly seeks to conform and obedient to the Church, is simply not able to follow your type of justification. Conversation ended.

If one takes a look at the web site of St. Francis Xavier, it is clear that the Pastor (Fr. Joe Costantino) and the Assoc. Pastor (Fr. Fink) fully condone and actively promote the militant gay lifestyle. It is not uncharitable to point out what they blatantly represent and actually flaunt.

While Archbishop Dolan may have asked the parish not to march under the parish banner in the upcoming Pride parade, something far more disturbing must be exposed.

Even though this church posts profiles of actively gay parishioners, holds weekly “gay catholic” and “lesbian catholic” meetings, and has a pastor who likes to say that he can “see the rainbow”, Archbishop Dolan, Former Cardinal Egan, and the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the U.N., Fr. Migliore, will be on hand this weekend, June 19 to officiate at the Church’s “rededication”. You can find this information on their web site.

For Archbishop Dolan to be on hand to officiate at a ceremony for a Church whose priests and parishioners are clearly heretical is outrageous. As someone upthread posted, they’ve even had a rainbow carpet leading up to the altar. Unbelievable. What message is Dolan sending? And may I remind you - this is the man who is part of the team to clean up what has gone on in Ireland.

Here’s the web site. Take a look. sfxavier.org/
