I would think that this could best be answered by a priest. There’s a call in show on EWTN right now with a priest.
EWTN Open Line Wednesday (LIVE)
Fr. Mitch Pacwa - 1-833-288-EWTN (3986)

, the Pope could change this discipline tomorrow.
I know that but that does not answer the question as to why today decent married Catholic deacons are not permitted to be ordained.
the norm of celibate priests is a discipline, it could be changed tomorrow.
If it is only a discipline why was it a factor called out as a reason to excommunicate Michael Cerularius and all his followers (The Eastern Orthodox) from the Roman Catholic Church in 1054. Various reasons were listed in the papal bull for the excommunication of 1054. One of the reasons listed was the fact that the Eastern Church allowed married priests. If this was only a discipline, why should it be a reason to excommunicate Michael Cerularius and all the members of the Eastern Orthodox Church who followed him?

If I may… I must say… I much prefer the Gospels themselves…
Re: Jesus’ Life … in the Rosary - Chronologically it goes from:

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple immediately to The Agony in the Garden!

In other words - it jumps completely over the Meat and Potatoes of Jesus’ Gospel Teachings!

In 2002 St. Pope John Paul II - introduced an addition to the Rosary - the Luminous Mysteries -
of which - in brief part - reflects upon what I’m saying… It was/is met with much Resistance…

Luminous Mysteries
  • The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.
  • The Wedding at Cana.
  • Jesus’ Proclamation of the Kingdom of God.
  • The Transfiguration.
  • The Institution of the Eucharist.
That said…
one must avail themselves of the Gospel/NT - in order to much more fully Know Jesus’ Mind

No one says that you cannot read the complete Gospels in another time if you pray the Rosary. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

Altar calls have no Biblical basis, neither does accepting the Lord as your “personal saviour”, does this mean it’s wrong to do those? By the way, would you like me to give you verses that support Catholicism? Here’s some, John 6:51-53. Want more? 1 Cor 11:23-30.

I am late to this thread and confess to not having read it all. But has anyone pointed out to the OP that the Bible has no Biblical basis?

About 50% of all Catholic priests of the Eastern Catholic churches are married…, however, they have to be married before they are ordained. I really wish that when people talk about married priests, they would try not to make it seem like married priests are such a terrible thing, it’s really offensive to priests that are married. I’ve met a few, one of which I would say was a living saint, hopefully, now he’s a saint in heaven praying for us. There are good Arguments for clerical celibacy, and you won’t find any objection to it from me , but the idea that somehow a married priest wouldn’t be able to raise a family is ridiculous. About a week or two ago, National Catholic register had a very good article about married priests.

I mean that the NT is a collection of 27 books that did not exist as a defined collection at the time the books were written (no surprise there) and therefore no claims about the authority of the Bible can depend solely on biblical authority. Someone later had to decided these books, and not many others, were ‘the Bible’. Paul and the other authors of the books of the NT lived their entire lives without ever hearing of the ‘Bible’ or the ‘New Testament’. This is all fine with Catholics who say ‘the Church declared these books to be be scripture’. Bible-based Christians have a big problem in logic and history.

The Catholic Church came first, founded by Jesus. Later, the Church wrote and collected the works of the New Testament.

I don’t think anyone believes that a married priest is incapable of raising a family. After all, I think most Catholics are aware of married Catholic priests to some degree.

But it isn’t as easy for them as it is for the average married man. I agree that the church was wise to go with a celibate clergy. I have many friends who are deacons. They couldn’t do it without the support of their wives and they have said that they wouldn’t have been able to do it with kids still home. Most became deacons after the kids were grown and gone.

We can look at how this plays out in Protestant churches - Mrs. Priest would be in a fishbowl, along with the little priests. It’s a well known trope that the preacher’s kids are rebellious jerks with daddy issues.

Someone asked me to list 5 Catholic beliefs that have no or little biblical basis so here is 5.
  • The Communion elements become the actual body and blood of Christ
  • Prayer to the saints
  • Indulgences
  • Purgatory
  • Sacred Tradition equal to scripture
You’ve responded 4 times on this thread.

Have you satisfactorily been shown the answers to these 5 questions?

Iv only responded 4 times on this thread because I don’t want to get into any arguments.

It’s easier if you accept the deuterocanonical books, but I believe all 5 do have biblical evidence.

Things that have no biblical basis? You mean, things like altar calls, or scripture alone, or the bible itself?
