Catholic priest uses hover board for mass

Completely illicit and irreverent.
GIRM 288. For the celebration of the Eucharist, the People of God are normally gathered together in a church or, if there is no church or if it is too small, then in another respectable place that is nonetheless worthy of so great a mystery. Therefore, churches or other places should be suitable for carrying out the sacred action and for ensuring the active participation of the faithful. Moreover, sacred buildings and requisites for divine worship should be truly worthy and beautiful and be signs and symbols of heavenly realities.

Let’s look at the bright side: the priest does not “ofrece eucaristia” on a hoverboard. He sings a Filipino version of “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You” (one of those cheesy Irish blessing party pieces), and he sings it from the aisles of church, not up on the altar.

So yes, he lacks decorum by doing it in his vestments, and yes, the whole idea of a priest singing cheesy songs in church is annoying. (Why not in the parish hall afterward? No captive audience?) But it is not a liturgical abuse; it is just stupid and lacks taste. Thank God for that!

Because I couldn’t download the video I guess I will have to give the priest the benefit of not judging him. It could be he has;
bad knees
bad hips
bad back
bad heart
who knows-I don’t.

That’s why we pray for priests- to save them from themselves. Lol.
 
Seems more like a concert. Maybe some backup singers and dancers next year? The only good thing I can say is at least he wasn’t wearing a Barney costume.

Yes. It is not unknown for a less-than-physically-able priest to use motorized assistance.

These are no wheel chairs. Watch some of the videos of people learning to ride them. These are aggressive extreme sport toys. Just type in “hover board fails” in YouTube. You can watch people injuring themselves trying to ride these .

Here is the full video. At the end when his solo is over, he hops off literally and springs up the steps quite well. No sign of physical limits.

It’s the Philippines and that is one karaoke loving culture. It’s not my cup of tea but then Australian culture has some sometimes objectionable quirks too. In fact I’d rather be at Mass where the Priest sang karaoke before Mass than in a Mass knowing that half the congregation has a gun in their pants, which I think is much more objectionable but is an unhappily commonplace American Church going habit I hear.

Well as a gun loving american I will tell you that hardly anyone here carries guns even when they are licensed to do so. Don’t believe the nonsense. I’d guess there is between zero and 3 guns in any 1000 person mass, and those 3 are likely off duty police.

I was taking my cue from a discussion last year about the young lad who walked into a Church and shot people. There was a fairly strong concensus that people would be responsible to take their guns into Mass.
 
2 things: First, I actually pity the guy who walks into our church and stands up and screams “allah akbar!!!” I know first hand there will a much higher rate of guns get pulled out than 3 per thousand pew sitters. And of the people I know, only 2 are off duty cops.

Second, It is getting more and more difficult for me to get around as I age… If the priest can ride in on a hover board, it only seems right that I should be able to as well.
 
Without knowing anything about this, I’m assuming that a priest in a wheelchair is allowed to celebrate Mass.

I don’t think these hoverboards (advertising-schemed name: they’re not hoverboards) serve any purpose for handicapped persons though. These bad boys would be far more useful for priests at Mass.

In another 100 years or so, when the first public Mass is celebrated on the moon, maybe we can affordably have them in the low gravity environment. Actual hovercraft have been around since the 1960s but they don’t really serve any utility and they’re horrendously energy inefficient compared to a wheel.
 
I was finally able to download the video. It looked like he was reaching out to the young and also young adults. If every priest could reach out to the youth of their parishes-then the pews would be full-every Sunday and day of Obligation. And I may add that there are many health issues or handicaps that are not visual. So if a priest can cast his net and pull in all the little fishies-who am I to judge. Peace.
 
Our pastor is from the Phillipines, and believe me he wouldn’t do this although he’s a young priest. He is even very strict that the EM ministers never turn their back on the tabernacle. He did say though that the Phillipines decorate a lot, have many Nativity scenes and is festive during Christmas. Not my taste either but maybe he’s trying to impress the young people. If so, I’d think they’d be more impressed by reverence. And I haven’t heard that song for a long time, but I think it was sung before Vativan 11 for special occasions like the pastors birthdays. People celebrate in different ways, so maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt, especially as he’s a priest. Perhaps one of the Catholic publications will have the entire story.
