The visibility might lead to more options that are less controversial in the Catholic world.

It could have just been a figure of speech and isn’t supposed to be taken literally.

I was trying to see if you thought thought a transperson isn’t living in reality i.e., delusional.

A trans person is not living in reality, but his divergence from reality is not a delusion as defined by psychology or psychiatry. It is just a delusion by the every day lay meaning of the word.

Is it ablist and problematic to say that a person who has had his spine severed and is this paralyzed from the neck down is deluding (in the lay and everyday sense) himself if he says he will walk again?

When I was in Catholic School, run by Sisters, one new girl was discovered to be living with her boyfriend. She would have been about 16. She was expelled after her mother refused to intervene and restore a proper Catholic home for her.
It was not discussed and every effort was made not to scandalise the rest of the school. We all knew, by rumour though.
In those days, being a practicing Catholic was held up as the example, in Catholic Schools.

The fact that you claim multiple realities says much.

There is only one reality.
The lack of awareness of the nature of the condition, and the seeming callousness toward those who suffer from it is breathtaking.

There is no question about the genetics and biology (in most cases) of those afflicted with gender dysphoria. The sufferers are not denying that reality. There is no delusion. But their brain cannot reconcile that reality with the self image the brain forms. This too is a reality - a forever present dissonance. No psychological treatment is known. And in some cases, the degree of mental anguish is severe.

That organization is not the Church’s teaching authority. The document primarily addresses surgery, and genital surgery at that. Which is a far cry from the scope appropriate to the case in the OP. Finally, the purposes it imputes to sufferers of dysphoria are extreme - to “change their sex”, which can’t be done and the sufferers know that. Overall, I don’t think it even reflects a proper understanding of the problem. And in saying all that, I don’t suggest that I know what the bounds of moral vs immoral treatment in these cases is. We may one day get clarity from the Church, but I don’t expect that soon.

Imposing this ideology in a Catholic environment is a betrayal of what the Catholic Church teaches.

Because they are inhumane like conversion therapy.
Black and white thinking.

Don’t you think there might be something out there short of electroshock or telling people they’re “worthless sinners” or whatever horror story gets trotted out?

And if there isn’t right now, shouldn’t researchers be allowed to try to find one?

Especially because we don’t lnow what causes it (and no, the transgender brain theory is NOT the final word smoking gun the activists claim it is).

The whole thing has become so politicized that even “watchful waiting” is considered neglect by some people.

But I’ve seen kids de-transistion from this. Kids who were very convincing during their phase,
There is no way to tell who’s going to outgrow it and who won’t. How fair is it to force everybody around them to play along?

Absolutely.

Watchful waiting can in some cases be a poor choice. Watchful waiting is sometimes recommended for early Cancers, but for others, more aggressive action is appropriate.

I’m amazed that your main concern is for the rest of us! But your first point is right, some children at too young an age are guided to a treatment path when waiting and lengthier evaluation may be more appropriate. Very careful standards need to be applied to ensure irreversible steps are not taken prematurely.

Gender dysphoria manifests differently in different people.
Some people (overwhelmingly male) start saying they feel like they’re really girls at preschool age.
Some people start to feel funny in their body in the tween or teen years.
Then you have the wannabes who are in it for the attention.

Some people in all three of these groups have been known to outgrow it without any intervention.
Some people in all three of these groups have been known to resolve this conflict with ordinary psychotherapy (ie there was something else going on in their subconscious that manifested outwardly in gender dysphoria).

But one of the problems nowadays with digging into the causes of dysphoria is kids have access to the internet, and they are given a script to follow on the activist websites—to make it sound convincing.
So you may have a kid who claims they ”always felt this way” when there’s zero evidence to support it, or even evidence to the contrary.

So, in the lack of a screening tool that can sort out the various types of dysphoria and their probable outcomes, is it fair to force other people to play along? All the while shutting down or placing obstacles to opposing views?

I can imagine there would be SO many kids keen to undergo horrendous surgeries…

That’s a key issue in this discussion is it?
