Catholic School vs State School

That’s a tough choice. I can see it both ways. I suggest making a list of the positives & negatives of each school & then reviewing the list and weighing each positive and negative 1-10. Pray about it, seek advice and suggestions and then do what your parents allow.

Likely, the work place you will have coworkers & bosses similar to what you’re experiencing at your State school. On the otherhand, why deal with that now if you don’t have to.

It is almost impossible to believe that Bishop Sheen ever made this statement. I have, multiple times, challenged people to find a source and no one ever has. In the past I found one source of a bishop who made a statement similar to it about Catholic universities back in the 70s IIRC.
Considering Bishop Sheen’s position, and the time he was a bishop, the timing does not make sense. Most Catholic schools were still staffed by nuns throughout his life. The problems in Catholic schools did not really appear until after his death. And as a bishop, in charge of many parish schools, it would have been a very strange thing for him to say, and out of character.

It is usually repeated by home schooling families. In my mind, it is completely indefensible and to perpetuate the quote is a slander against Bishop Sheen’s legacy.

Nobody ever died from not liking ballet
No, but watching ballet is a near death experience for me 🤣
🤣 I feel this way about football.

I […] think guys who do ballet look like little sissies.
I hope there are schools where boys can prefer ballet to boxing without being thought sissies. And where girls can prefer rugby to rounders.

I think that does exist now. When I was at school, rugby was the big thing. I’ll never forget double rugby at 8.30 on a Monday morning in December. I think rugby’s still a big thing, but a new headmaster also introduced dance to the curriculum. I guess this is the direction we are going in. A quick Google search tells me that rugby is now popular in private girls’ schools. Boys can also play rounders, of course.

What happened to this thread? It was such a great discussion on Catholic vs. state school, and I wanted to hear the different perspectives, and now we’ve gone to discussions on ballet and vaccines? 🤔😅 I don’t understand the moderation policies anymore. I don’t mean to spoil your lively and interesting convo though! I’m just a bit disappointed from my POV

The thread was getting back on track so I don’t think anyone flagged anyone, so likely never reviewed by the mods. If you think mod action is warranted anywhere, flag the offending threads (you may have to click the … to show the option.)

Well the OP has another thread open on which he says he’s leaving the forums, so I don’t suppose he’ll be that upset. I’m still not sure what to make of the OP and some of his other threads.

Got it. So the whole of ballet is effeminate because the one ballet you’ve actually seen (which is about a little girl going to an imaginary land of sweets) you found effeminate. Other examples of ballet are irrelevant, no matter how different they might be, because you once were dragged to a ballet (probably as a hyperactive pre-pubescant boy) and didn’t like it and you declare that it is “torture”, so it must be so. Stay in school, kids! Stay in school!
PS- “The Nutcracker Suite” is an orchestra work that takes themes from the original Nutcracker ballet and reorganizes them into a few minutes of music, generally played in a concert or on the radio at Christmas time. It’s not an entire ballet and there’s generally no dancing with it. Your expertise on ballet is clearly lacking.

Your expertise on ballet is clearly lacking.
It clearly is, thank goodness. I hope to keep it that way. I’ve seen a few ballets and all of them were torture. I saw the Nutcracker as an adult. Whether “men” or women performing, it doesn’t matter. It’s all dreadfully boring. And I don’t care if a man wants to wear a tutu and play with Barbies. It’s just not my thing.

And thanks for the clarification. It was the Nutcracket ballet that I saw.

Let’s see if I’ve got this right. You found something boring. Something you have experienced only a few times and with very little understanding of what was going on. Because you got bored and because you are an example of the ideal man, you have the authority to declare anything that bores you as effeminate and anyone who enjoys it as a “little sissy”. You don’t think you might possibly have a slight character defect in the arrogance department? This is the equivalent of me turning on the Spanish TV station, which is in a language I don’t speak, getting bored, and declaring that the Spanish language makes no sense and people who speak it are stupid. And then randomly accuse the of playing with dolls for good measure, even though that has nothing to do with ballet or speaking Spanish.

Because you got bored and because you are an example of the ideal man
Heavens no. I’m not the example. Just ask my wife 🤣

Speaking of my wife, she thinks football is boring. I don’t have a problem with that.

Of course you wouldn’t have a problem with that. She’s not a man. She’s not supposed to like “masculine things” like football.

That may or may not be true. I know women who like masculine things such as football. My wife just doesn’t happen to be one of them.
