Hello Everyone,

I have booked a singles cruise ship for the Caribbean 2 months ago, I haven’t taken a real vacation for more than 2 years, I wanted to do something different (since all of my friends are either married, can’t get out of the country, or they can’t afford). As time has passed by, I been hearing that a lot of people go on singles cruise ships to hook up and have flings. Now I am scared of going because I don’t want been surrounded by this kind of behavior. Since I am 27, I can be naive, and going alone I can be a target. I’ll rather lose the money and don’t go, than going and doing something stupid and later regretting later.
Any thoughts or advice?

I went on a cruise by myself, it wasn’t a singles cruise but on any cruise like any vacation spot people tend to do whatever they want because they are away from home. I had a good time regardless of what was going on around me, I had a great time and met some great people who were out to have a reasonably good time that didn’t include getting drunk and dancing on tables (yes there was a girl in a pink bikini whose mother was actually boasting about her in one of the shops at a port).

There are lots to do on a cruise ship - board games, swimming, mini gulf, ice skating, simulating surfing/boogie board, basketball, table tennis, climbing wall, shows, gym. You only have to do the activities that interest you even if with a group (a singles cruise is just a group booked at a special price to include certain activities and experiences on a regular cruise ship). I met my group on the first night and then I didn’t see most of them again until we were leaving because not everyone is interested in the same thing and cruise ships are huge.

I have not regretted my cruise. One piece of advice if you are going on land excursions do try to make some friends or go with one booked by the cruise ship for safety reasons and to ensure you get back to the ship on time.

My advice to you would be not to go on a cruise by yourself.

When you go on blind dates, always meet somewhere and bring a friend.

My buddy used to answer the ads back in the day before the internet and I’d always go along. It would amaze us both the amount of girls he met who wanted him, for all practical purposes a complete stranger, to pick her up at her place. He also tell her to bring a friend, not because we were double dating but for her safety.

It was fun for me because there was no intent on my part and it was fun talking to someone new.

I would suggest reseaching cruise discussion boards online. I know the one at cruisecritic.com has “roll calls” where you may be able to “meet” some folks going on the same cruise as you beforehand. I’m sure there are other boards out there that do the same thing, but I know this one is quite active. This way you may be able to at least “know someone” before you get on-board, and it may make you a little more comfortable about being there.

Good luck and enjoy yourself. There will be all types of people with all types of goals for their cruise. Stick to what you want to do and enjoy whomever happens to be interested in the same things as you.

Yes there will be drunk, disorderly folks with gambling problems; but maybe you’ll be able to meet the other 2 people on-board. 😃

I’d suggest you buy yourself a wedding ring, get a couple of photos of a large soldier (mean looking preferred) and enjoy. Anyone tries to “hook up”, point to the ring and say “no thank you”. If you meet someone you actually like you can be honest with them and I’m betting they will understand.

Many will say this is sinful because you are “lying”… I don’t believe this is “false wittness”. But to be safe perhaps you should talk to your priest and see what he thinks.

Cruises are great.

Enjoy

God bless

As a perhaps more honest option, you could get yourself a “promise ring” or “purity ring.” Goes in the same place a wedding band does and will probably discourage most of the sort you don’t want.

Go and have fun. You seem mature enough not to do anything “stupid”.

And who knows? Maybe you’ll meet a nice guy who is looking for the same thing (or not the same thing) in a relationship as you are.

Sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your handsome prince.

I have done a great deal of traveling by myself, and I don’t think you should be concerned. It’s possible you will go the whole cruise without anyone propositioning you for sinful behavior–and even if someone or a couple guys do, unless you don’t trust yourself, it is easy to say “no thank you.” If you don’t hang out at the spots where people are getting drunk and such, it probably won’t be an issue. Take a good book and you’ll have some wonderful times sitting out reading with a wonderful, relaxing view. Keep in mind most of the other people will be married couples, there will be lots of kids running around, etc.–its not as if you’re about to enter a floating Sodom.

Then again, stay home if you don’t trust yourself not to seek out trouble, as certainly anytime lots of people are together with alcohol trouble can be found.

One unrelated question is, do they have masses on the ship if you will be there Sunday?

I say go and have a good time, OP.

Just limit yourself to only 3 fruity umbrella drinks a day.🙂

Based on a number of the replies it seems that we have lost the fact that the OP states this is a “singles cruise”…I don’t know how many married couples will be on such a cruise…I’ve never been on any type of cruise…unless you count a harbor cruise in San Diego once. 😃

To the OP…When you booked this singles cruise what was your idea that it would be like? Maybe still can be that…

Peace
James

If you decide not to go, would you be able to sell it to someone else?

Our pastor tells us that he and a brother priest once booked a three day cruise at the last minute only to find out that it was a swingers cruise when they got on. They were sitting at dinner and found out that they had been assigned to two ladies, so they had to decide whether to announce they were priests or let people think they were gay.

It seemed less of a scandal to let them think they were gay versus two vowed celibates on a swingers cruise.

poor guys.

I think it’s fine to go alone, Just be prudent with your company and alcohol consumption. Have fun!

Mely,

My opinion is go and enjoy yourself. But just a few things to keep in mind – and I think these go for almost anything:
Code:
Never allow yourself to be caught alone with anyone you do not know.

Never accept a drink or such from someone who brings it to you – unless it is a waiter or bartender or such.

Never let someone “walk” you back to your cabin – or even tell them where it is.

Be aware of those around you – especially when you are walking anyplace onboard alone – even those that work for the cruise line.
I hope I am not making you nervous or such cruises can be a lot of fun, maybe try to make friends with some other women who are also going on the cruise alone, safety in number thing.

Winter.

I would not let my daughter go on a cruise ship by herself unless she was ‘packin some heat.’

What was going through you mind when you booked it? You do not have to have a fling, but you may meet a nice man. I think maybe most men who book those are also tired of the bar scene and that, I say go and just be careful. No one can make you do anythinlg you don’t want, that would be unlawful. Bring a couple good books, and enjoy yourself.

I agree but its a singles cruise, do you think there’d be kids and married couples there also?

Yikes, missed that it was a singles cruise. Sorry.

Now that I see that, I think she’d be CRAZY to go on it. It’s hard to imagine many single men intent on chastity would go on such a cruise. Unless I’m wrong, isn’t a large part of the point to have a SINGLES cruise is to find other single people and, you know, “hook up”?

“Mommy, how’d you meet Daddy?”
“Honey, I met your dad on a singles cruise. We were both praying rosaries on the deck and bumped into each other.” <----UNLIKELY

There’s nothing wrong with going on a singles cruise – it could be a great way to meet other single people (men and women). If you’re going to put yourself in situations where you’re either going to be hurt or let all your inhibitions go and do something stupid, then that’s going to happen anywhere – cruise ship, bar in town…

I’ve been on eight cruises (granted, never by myself but with other single friends – just not a singles cruise) and I’ve never done anything on the cruise ship that I wouldn’t do in my own town. I would go grab a glass of wine at one of the piano bars and have a nice evening listening to music or most of the time would grab my book and sit out on the deck enjoying the sounds of the ocean. I never hit the night clubs (because I don’t like them), but I do admit to hitting the casino occasionally – which I don’t do at home because gambling is illegal in Texas:D

Again, it’s all up to your actions and decision. If you don’t trust yourself, don’t go. If you’re capable of making wise decision, go and have fun. Just be smart – but you should do that no matter what you’re doing or where you’re going.
