Why it would be odd to still be on display? It is on display because it is absolutely cherished and revered by the people there, and many miracles have reportedly taken place. Just like other shrines.

There is a lovely statue of Mary at my church, she is wearing her usual blue (it’s a lovely shade of blue) and the inside is red with a gold trim.

She is looking downward (holding Jesus) and has a lovely smile.

I will take a photo of it when I am next there.

it was painted by a German artist in late 1800’s
No idea if he was Mormon, unlikely

The breastfeeding Mary was quite common in artistic depiction in medieval times. Despite our sex-obsessed culture, we are “puritans” in odd ways that medieval folk would consider strange.

Yup, especially us Americans who have so much of that Puritanical heritage.

The article I found stated that this particular piece is generally used only during advent and the end of the Easter season. But that’s Wikipedia for you. lol
Strange…I’m pretty sure it is on constant display. They even change his little cape and crown according to the liturgical colors and feast days. They would never just put him away in storage. Don’t trust Wikipedia on this one, lol. Maybe someone who knows or has been there can chime in.

No, I don’t like this one at all. Is it really supposed to be Jesus? I’ll have to look up more about it.

I don’t find it repulsive, it’s very pretty. But I do think it’s a little confusing. I think I know the artist was going for, but it’s not very straight forward.

The unfortunate thing is that some folks believe it is the actual face of Jesus, not just a painted icon worthy of devotion.

I agree with you that by itself it is not inspiring. However, when you see it placed over the face of the image on the shroud the combination is perfect. I used to see that online a long while ago. I’ll see if I can find it.

I have seen it but it seems a stretch of the imagination. The Mannoppello face has a tiny mouth offset from the nose and the facial proportions are unnatural. I think you can take any well-done Jesus icon image and make it look like it matches the Shroud.

I know I’m gonna get flack for this but in my opinion it’s just tasteless and too inappropriate
It is from an era where breasts were the only way for babies to get fed, people were accustomed to seeing them used in this context, and bosoms were not popping out of every advertisement and billboard.
Please do not apply your 21st century concepts for or against breasts to art that is hundreds of years old.

If we’re sharing Favorite Jesuses again, here’s mine. The Lord Jesus Christ of Ohio (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

This Icon, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I attend a Redemptorist Parish and they have a very special devotion to this Icon.

OLP is one of my favorite Marys. My mother had a big devotion to her and had a little copy of that picture framed in our kitchen.
The thing about both OLP and the Infant of Prague is that they have both been re-imagined by so many artists that most of the representations of them look nothing like the original art. There is an OLP in my registered parish where both she and Jesus are happily smiling. In the original OLP, Jesus is supposed to be looking frightened because he sees the Angels coming with elements of his torture and crucifixion, and Mary is comforting him. When you make him a happy smiling baby, it loses the whole plot.

Another of my favorite Icons, Christ Pantocrator:
