And Philosopher in Britain means something different than Sorcerer. So blame the publishing world for that change.
Philosopher’s Stone is alchemy, supposedly with this stone you’d be able to change rocks to gold . . . alchemy is a form of Sorcery which involves magical chemsitry.

What does Harry do to toads?

Harry does not have a familiar.

Yes, please say more about more people going to Wiccan sites.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Hedwig the owl is known as a familiar, or a pet animal bonded by magic to a sorcerer or witch.

Wicca, magic, sorcery, alchemy, idol worship, all are forms of false worship against the first commandment. Avoid them, do not dabble even, that’s just running away from GOD and to dark powers. JESUS already destroyed death. Harry Potter is fiction (which means a lie for entertainment), JESUS IS THE TRUTH for SALVATION. Prefer the TRUTH over lies . … No one who makes a lie shall enter the temple which is in HEAVEN.

repent repent repent . . .

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

It’s not conclusively shown in the books that Hedwig is a familiar. Yes, witches in general believe in familiars, though it’s not concluded that Harry’s pet is a familiar.

It is very obvious that you have no idea what the Harry Potter books are about because the Philosopher’s stone has nothing to do with rocks turning into Gold.

shhh. Don’t start quoting bible verses found within the Harry Potter books. Remember they are suppose to be Pro-Satan books. And the devil would never point out the morals of fighting and living the truth even when it means sacrficing your very life. Wonder how many saints are in heaven for those very same actions???🤷
😦 Where your treasure is, there will your heart also be.

Hedwig (a known Saint name) dies. 😦 Trevor is never mentioned in DH!:crying:

Soooo… it’s not Harry Potter in particular that you take issue with, it’s fiction in general?

No one is saying that you (or anyone else) must read the Harry Potter novels. One does need to show discernment with respect to entertainment chosen, but entertainment is not, ipso facto, evil, and condemnation of all fiction is hardly congruent with Catholic thought.

As far as the Harry Potter novels are concerned, one really must look beyond the titles of the volumes and presence of particular words to draw an accurate conclusion about whether these novels’ contents are an attack on the Catholic Faith or not. While I don’t think everyone can (or should) read them, I think that anyone actually reading them without preconceived notions and immediately heading off on tangents because of the use of particular words would find that these novels are far from detrimental to the faith of someone in the target audience (which I would put at somewhere around 4 years younger than Harry in each given book and up).

HEY! Dont forget RON had a Toad that had its toe chopped off !!! And Hermoines cat tried to eat it!!! And Ron tried to turn in pink in Sorcerers Stone!!!

The whole SERIES is nothing more than blatant TOAD BIGOTRY!!! Anyone who cares at all about our web feeted friends should NEVER read these books!!!

Remeber that in Scripture says “you should love your toad as you love yourself” (or something like that!. )

Toads? Why single anyone one thing out. What about spiders or the plants that try to eat people? Don’t forget the Giants or the merri-people or the goblins or elves. they have feelings too!

I thought a familiar was an animal that could change into a human and vice-versa, not an animal that bonded itself to a human. Was I wrong in this thought?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar

In early modern English superstition, a familiar spirit, imp, or familiar (from Middle English familiar, related to family) is an animal-shaped spirit who serves for witchery, a demon or other magician-related subjects. Familiars were imagined to serve their owners as domestic servants, farmhands, spies, and companions, in addition to helping bewitch enemies. These spirits were also said to inspire artists and writers (compare Muse).
Familiars are considered an identifying characteristic of early modern English witchcraft, and serve as one feature setting it apart from continental or New World witchcrafts.

Thanks for the lesson!

I had not a clue until i went to the site.

I see the animals as pets not spirts who have to do the wizards bidding. I think it’s in book 3 that harry tires to get hedwig to delivery a letter for him but she refuses because she is mad at harry. He has to use some of the other hogwarts owls. I also don’t see how crankshaw could be seen as one. He after all chased ron’s rat and then always sat around and did nothing just like most fat cats.

Pssst. It was a rat Ron had…and furthermore, why is “Toad” capitalised?

Sorry for the spoiler. I just wanted to know how the devil felt about the owl dying. 😦

Feel sorry for goblins?!! Pshaw! They are mean to wizards! Giants aren’t nice! As long as house elves feel they need to serve me, I don’t much care about the rest of their, “feelings”.

You right-it was a rat(well it reallu wasnt a rat either) but I needed another toad for my toad rant so I transfigured it into a toad.

Sound like something Hermoine would take up in the likes of S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare)

So what would that be? SPIT (Society for the Protection of Innocent Toads)?

Without revealing too much, the main themes of the book involve submission to a destiny greater than your own life, the ability of selfless love to conquer evil, and the infinite value of self-sacrifice. Aren’t those some major tenants of Christianity?
I just want to second this in case it’s overlooked. Book 7 in particular has some VERY Christian themes, which we can’t really post much about here without spoiling. I’d suggest anyone wit doubts about the series read the 7th book, at the very least.

Yes,

You’re thinking of an Animagi. They are the ones that can change in and out of human/animal form.

A familiar is simply a wizzard’s pet of sorts. Hedwig is a Familiar.
