Catholicism and Harry Potter (Please No posting Spoilers!)

Of course HP is fiction! Most children can tell you that!!

So you are basically saying that NO FICTION can ever be read?

So you must be of the school of thought that if something is fun, pretty, tasty, but having nothing to do with religion, it is evil!

You are of the “Life is to be endured, not enjoyed” school of thought.

OK.

As for me and my family, we are quite faithful Catholics, but we also enjoy life, because we believe that God gives us MANY things to enjoy, INCLUDING wonderful pieces of FICTIONAL writing, including Lord of the Rings (with sorcerers!!), Lion, Witch and Wardrobe (with witches!!), and Harry Potter (with wizards!!) We have read all these, and many more, and none (gasp!) of us have ever attempted to dabble in the occult!

Harry Potter is a classic story of good versus evil, love over hate, bully versus nerd. Guess what!? Without giving away the ending, it’s a wonderful story!

You can disagree, but I don;t think you have even read them, so you really don’t have a say in it then! You cannot judge these books by their titles.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one getting her information about familiars from, “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark”.

Please tell us where in the HP books (not in your mystical misinterpretation of the titles) idolatry, human sacrifice, or perverse sex are advocated. If you cannot do this, you are violating one of the Ten Commandments (though shalt not bear false witness), and all your pious talk rings hollow.

Perhaps you should repent of your casual attitude to the truth?

I don’t buy it for a moment . … satan already knew what he was going to do, and did so with the idea that people were just stupid enough to buy into the lie. Satan has a pretty high opinion of himself, that’s because of pride . … and pride is why satan, and those of satan will never repent . …

Harry didn’t do anything to a Toad I was joking As I assume you are-iat least I hope you are. If you are serious you are looking very sillly
 
For some that know me, this will come as a shock:

I do not let my kids read or watch HP, never have and never will. Nor have I read the books or seen the movies (should I duck now, or later?). Many will take the view that I cannot hold a valid opinion if I have not read the books, I disagree, but hey HP has already won over the world anyway, so what I think doesn’t make much difference in the scheme of things. 🙂

Well it cameas a shock to me! I would never have guessed in a million years you were not a Harry Fan:)
 
I think after reading HP I have the strong urge to walk around casting spells 😃

I don’t really see what’s wrong with it if the audience is above 15 at least. That 7th book is really not a kid’s book at all. HP makes use of blood sacrifices, some not so great language and there is a lot of violence, acts of hate, etc. It’s not a children’s book, but HP tries to recognize the greater good yes?

HP may have not obeyed authority, but that doesn’t mean he is necessarily bad, he disobeys authority mainly because Lord Voldemort starts controlling authority, so he can’t trust them.

I haven’t read the Pope’s view of the book, so I can’t say anything, maybe if I read his view, it will make clear why the book is not as it seems then. Anyone have a link to this?

As you know I would love to see HP drop right away, yet to be honest I just do not see it happen. Rowling has had a lot of money for a long time, yet she kept writing the books. Oprah has even more money, yet she keeps working to make more. Once a person is consumed with all of the attention, money and acclaim such things bring, I think it is very, very hard to walk away from. Rowling could have walked away a very wealthy woman many years ago, but chose to go on creating new books. I think the human ego has a huge impact, I would be very shocked if she does not write any more HP stories–the world will be all over her to write more, which will just feed the ego even more. Couple all that with the fact that Rowling is the richest female author in the world, and quite possibly in history and I just don’t see her not wanting to pad all that for the sake of womankind everywhere.

She will probably take a break, then rejoin the world.
