Catholicism VS Bible

None of that answers my question sir. Currently your God outlawed the casting of graven images of anything in heaven above and then commands men to cast images from heaven above. Well which is it?

@DanielandtheLionsDen, the Ten Commandments are found in 2 books of the Bible. Protestants get their list from Exodus 20:2-17 while Catholics get our list from Deuteronomy 5:6-21.

Contrary to what you believe, we did not remove ANY of the Commandments. They are all there. Read both lists above and see for yourself.

We have no idols. Therefore, your claim is moot. But FYI, anything one places above love for God can be viewed as an idol. Money, fame, sex, food, fav celebrities, etc. One must know where to draw the line.

As for "Call no man ‘Father’, open your Bible and read 1 Corinthians 4:14-15 and 2 Corinthians 12:14b-15. Explain your understanding of these verses.

2nd Commandment
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above…
Technically speaking, how do you know that the statues you claim Catholics idolize actually resemble the “forms of anything in Heaven above”?

Have you been to Heaven and actually seen the real thing for yourself? If not, how can you claim Catholics are disobeying God by doing things you have no proof of?
You see what you want to see in Catholics. God sees the hearts of Catholics (and everyone else).

I stand on the basis of Truth, in defence of the Holy Bible.
So do I , @DanielandtheLionsDen .

It is not Catholicism versus the Bible .

It is Catholicism in the Bible and the Bible in Catholicism .

Your objections are hoary , old chestnuts which have been dealt with countless times , but I sense there is no point in attempting to dialogue with you .

May the Holy Spirit lead you into the fullness of truth .

God bless .

Actually they do,
The pope is referred to as the “Holy Father”
One pope said quote “Dont go to God for forgiveness come to me” Pope John Paul II
another
“The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and Earth.” Pope Pius V
Concerning Pope John Paul II:

This ‘quote’ is said to exist in an article of the Los Angeles Times; dated 12th December 1984. The authenticity of the ‘quote’ – and its existence within the publication – is disputed. Please reproduce the article, so that we can read it for ourselves.

Concerning Pope Pius V:

No. This is what he wrote:

‘He that reigneth on high, to whom is given all power in heaven and earth, has committed one holy Catholic and apostolic Church, outside of which there is no salvation, to one alone upon earth, namely to Peter, the first of the apostles, and to Peter’s successor, the pope of Rome, to be by him governed in fullness of power. Him alone He has made ruler over all peoples and kingdoms, to pull up, destroy, scatter, disperse, plant and build, so that he may preserve His faithful people (knit together with the girdle of charity) in the unity of the Spirit and present them safe and spotless to their Saviour.’ (‘Papal Bull: Regnans in Excelsis’).

The message of ‘Regnans in Excelsis’ is this:

The Pope – as successor to St Peter, to whom it was said: ‘And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.’ (Matthew 16:18-19 – KJV Version) – is the Vicar of Christ on earth, acting with full authority. He is not God.

Obviously not if you are bowing to statues every day.
Do you salute the flag of your nation, Daniel? Do you do that to pay honor to the nation or are you ‘worshiping’ the flag?

We’re not praying to the statues. We’re praying to those the statues represent.
If I bow to a statue of Christ it is to pay honor to Christ, not because I think the statue itself should be honored.

Are you Jewish? i ask because of your use of the Hebrew name.

I stand on the basis of Truth, in defence of the Holy Bible. For YHWH and Yeshua. I will defend the Bible and its word, one argument at a time. All are welcome to the conversation, you seek truth, then, let us reason with the scriptures.
Thank you for your defense of the Bible.

I did have a few questions for you.
  1. Do you believe that faith alone saves? If you do, then how would you explain Matthew 25: 31-46?
  2. Do you believe that the Eucharist is a symbol, but not the actual Body and Blood of Jesus? If so, then how do you explain John 6:53?
I have a few more, but I will await your answers to these first.

Wishing you well in your Bible studies. People do need to spend more time reading the Bible.

Now if the bible says there is ONE mediator and that is Jesus, than explain to me how Mary mediates? Further, explain to me why would you pray to the Saints? Jesus said to pray to the Father in his name.
2 Timothy 2: A Call to Prayer
…4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.…
These questions have all been answered many times, with detailed scriptural references:

With respect to our Blessed Mother Mary as “mediatrix”, Christ is our SOLE mediatrix with the Father/ God.
Mary is a subordinate mediatrix who intercedes for us with Christ, just as she did at the Wedding at Cana in Scripture when she told Jesus that the couple had run out of wine and told the servants to “do whatever he (Jesus) tells you”. John 2:1-10.

I will certainly pray to the Blessed Mother Mary for your better understanding of her today.

Except you don’t just call them Father, as if to say “Daddy” Rather, you call the Pope Holy Father, which is by no means what this “Answer” is implicating. Father, to my dad, is one thing, but to call another man Father, as if in the likeness of God is another. There is an obvious difference.
The choices are not limited to ‘Daddy’ and ‘Almighty God’. I might call someone ‘father’ in another context.
Christ was not forbidding the words father or rabbi/teacher. He was telling us not to pay excessive honor to men.
Where is this commandment in the “Catholic 10 Commandments”?
Exodus 20
2nd Commandment
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Douay-Rheims Bible, which Catholics use.
On what grounds do you claim we omit them from the Commandments?

If Jesus said, call no man Father on earth, why would you go against it?
Jesus refers to Abraham as Father. Is Jesus going against his own command? Saint Stephan, before is martyrdom, refers to not only Abraham as Father but also the Jewish elders. Oh, and Saint Paul refers to himself as father.
The Bible says there is “One” mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
Amen! But does this mean that we cannot pray for others or ask others to pray for us. You must have some kind of prayer call list at your church when someone falls ill or on bad times?
Exodus 20 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Interestingly enough, two or three chapters later when God commands Moses to build the Ark, Moses is instructed to make to cherubim for the Ark. Have you read where Solomon builds the temple? All kinds of images of angles and animals. His is speaking of worshiping idols. Catholics and Orthodox do not worship icons or statutes. Do you carry pictures of family members in your wallet or have pictures of friends and loved ones on your walls? I’m sure you don’t worship these images? They are just a reminder of the love you have for them. That’s all icons are.

Exodus 20 lists twelve Commandments. What Commandments have you left out to reduce twelve to ten? I see you have combined a 2nd and a 3rd commandment into one Commandment. Is combining Commandments to get to ten biblical?

Now that’s what I call getting thoroughly and completely schooled. I think you’ve come to the wrong place to troll. 🙂

But if you’re sincere then I suggest you do your research as each and every one of these Catholic-skeptic points is not new and has been refuted thoroughly.

I would be most interested to know the following facts as I believe this background information would enable us to know from what perspective you are arguing.
  1. To which Protestant Christian ecclesial community do you belong?
  2. Do you know the history of the Bible and how it was compiled? If you do please tell us what you know.

How about the song Protestant children often sing in Sunday School… “Father Abraham… had seven sons and seven sons had Father Abraham…”

Abraham is rightfully called our Father in Faith.

Yes, we Catholics beleive the same thing here. After all, it was Catholic Bishops who canonized the Bible in Carthage during the life of St. Augustine.

God Bless

Yes. Also the evangelical dogma of saying the sinners prayer meaning instant salvation… it’s nowhere to be found in scripture. Go figure. 🙂
