I seems to me that the Catholic Church has a more intelligent position on Buddhism than you do.

I’m sure it would seem that way to you since they humor you and tell you that you will be fine as long as you are a good buddhist.

I’m telling you you will stand naked and alone before Almighty God and he will judge you deserving of hell unless you belong to Jesus Christ. The only way you will be saved is if you trust in Christ for your salvation and follow him as lord. God hates all unrighteousness.

That is not what Catholicism teaches. It teaches that those who believe in Christ will be saved, and that those who reject Christ when Christ is fully revealed to them will be damned. It also teaches that those who follow the light they have will be led to Christ, and it is modest in defining how this happens. That at least is how I interpret the Catholic position.

Oh right. We’ve discussed your odd faith in the magisterial authority of the Larry King show already.

Your hostility to lies *ought *to include the little, subtle lies like saying “Catholics say X” because you can interpret three priests on Larry King as saying X, even though you know quite well that the Catholic Church does *not *officially teach X (whether the priests were really saying what you say they were saying is a matter for debate–I don’t recall any of them saying that one is saved by following the precepts of some other religion).

The Catholic Church teaches what it’s priests teach. If the Church doesn’t stop them it approves them.

They contradicted John 3:18

John 3:18 ESV
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

The first priest said that a Jewish Rabbi who by default must deny Christ is who he said he is would go to heaven.

John called those who deny Christ anti Christ:

1 John 2:22 ESV
22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

No. There is truth and there is untruth. You don’t have to know the truth to speak untruth.

God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 ESV
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The truth is Jesus Christ.

You might wanna visit India someday… I’ll show you temples where “Puja” is perfomed in Buddha temples .A section of the hindus worship him as the 13th incarnation of one of their gods, Vishnu.
Well, that’s Hinduism for you. I prefer Buddhism over it.

Hindu chants are amazing though.

The Book of Matthew:

1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Book of John

1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

Amen Brother, it is one of the hardest things we have to control in this time,
blessed is he who you share this with,
blessed is he who so gently helps his brother.

“In the name of” is not the same as it is today. Its not a label but a verb.

Saying in the name of is lip service.

Living in the way of is “in the name of”

I wonder how many of us will on judgement point and say but i said his name and he did not.

How many will be told they were offered to live in his name that you might walk with Our Father.

Then offered look at the action of the one they point accusation to.

Well maybe ur right, the buddhist form a very meagre % of our population today and because hinduism jainism and buddhism are all dharmic religions, over the centuries a lot of inter mixing of practises have occured. The buddhist that I know, although buddhist by religion, follow hindu practises more or less…

The catholic church has programmes where priest use the hindu and buddhist meditation techniques to attain peace…

Very good question. Being someone who considered himself a buddhist at one time in my life, here is my take on this religion:
  1. No specific plan is inferred on salvation except following:

    The four noble truths:
  2. Life means suffering.
  3. The origin of suffering is attachment.
  4. The cessation of suffering is attainable.
  5. The path to the cessation of suffering.
2. The eight fold path:
    • Samma-Ditthi — Complete or Perfect Vision, also translated as right view or understanding. Vision of the nature of reality and the path of transformation.
  1. Samma-Sankappa — Perfected Emotion or Aspiration, also translated as right thought or attitude. Liberating emotional intelligence in your life and acting from love and compassion. An informed heart and feeling mind that are free to practice letting go.
  2. Samma-Vaca — Perfected or whole Speech. Also called right speech. Clear, truthful, uplifting and non-harmful communication.
  3. Samma-Kammanta — Integral Action. Also called right action. An ethical foundation for life based on the principle of non-exploitation of oneself and others. The five precepts.
  4. Samma-Ajiva — Proper Livelihood. Also called right livelihood. This is a livelihood based on correct action the ethical principal of non-exploitation. The basis of an Ideal society.
  5. Samma-Vayama — Complete or Full Effort, Energy or Vitality. Also called right effort or diligence. Consciously directing our life energy to the transformative path of creative and healing action that fosters wholeness. Conscious evolution.
  6. Samma-Sati — Complete or Thorough Awareness. Also called “right mindfulness”. Developing awareness, “if you hold yourself dear watch yourself well”. Levels of Awareness and mindfulness - of things, oneself, feelings, thought, people and Reality.
  7. Samma-Samadhi — Full, Integral or Holistic Samadhi. This is often translated as concentration, meditation, absorption or one-pointedness of mind. None of these translations is adequate. Samadhi literally means to be fixed, absorbed in or established at one point, thus the first level of meaning is concentration when the mind is fixed on a single object. The second level of meaning goes further and represents the establishment, not just of the mind, but also of the whole being in various levels or modes of consciousness and awareness. This is Samadhi in the sense of enlightenment or Buddhahood.

Buddhism strives/stresses the need for self-perfection (After all Buddha-hood is obtained when you have become a perfect human being through the above guidence). At no point, unless I’m way off here, does the religion focus on a specific path guided by a supreme being. I’m not Catholic, but a Christian (funny I thought they were still one in the same, after all if it weren’t for the Catholic Church, Christianity wouldn’t have reached the ends of the earth as Christ commanded it). Bottom line (in my opinion) buddhism is just a good way of treating your fellow human beings while keeping self perfection in mind. Christianity is knowing you are sin in nature (far from perfect and sinless perfection is not obtainable), yet are saved through Christ Jesus’ sacrifice to die for all our sins (past, present and future). However, true Christians must profess and ask for forgiveness of their sins and try not to repeat them over and over again. Catholics go to confession ( I understand the concept “Getting it off your chest to another human being”, however one only has to confess his sins to almighty God and mean it in his heart to be forgiven). Other Christian denominations do not stress the need for a “In between” person to intercede on our behalf. So the take on Buddhism is no real clear sight on reaching heaven (nirvana) as in the Christian faith which has a clear path to the Father, Jesus Christ (No one comes to the Father except through me). That is all I have to say about that. Oh and by the way, if it were up to me (which of course it isn’t), their would be no denominational differences. It would be by the Holy Scriptures only.

Many of the posts here are helpful.

I have studied Buddhism over the years off and on. The lack of devotion to a personal God was disturbing to me. However, I think there is one or more sects of Buddhism where they chant the name of, I think, Amida Buddha in a devotional way and believe that will insure the devotee’s salvation.

On a practical level, the Buddhists in Japan do not condemn the rampant abortion over there. Yet, I thought Buddhism taught reverence for all life. The Buddhist organizations do make a steady income from performing various rites for post abortive women who suffer regret over their past abortions.
Code:
Having lived in Japan a total of seven years prior and now back in Japan again, I notice now in 2009, what I noticed back in 1986 was that religion in general (for most Japanese) is only needed for marriages and deaths. That is the only time religion plays apart of the everyday Japanese life. For the most part they are slaves to their own technology. Try finding a Japanese person without a cell phone in his hand. However, there are quite a few Japanese Christians who give the land of the rising sun hope.

God has already judged this situation. The entire purpose of the bible is to testify to Christ. Christ gave the commission to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.

Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

John 3:18 ESV
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Telling a non-christian that he is condemned without Christ is like telling a smoker that his cigaretts will kill him. Any religion that does not profess Christ is like a cancer that needs to be cut out of the world because anything that does not profess Christ is who he says he is is from the devil and the devil is the father of lies and enemy of the truth.

Satan says: “Love others as you love yourself” - Bhadramayakaravyakarana sutra 91

Christ says: “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” - Mark 12:31

Now what was that about the difference between Christ and Satan?

Everyone is hellbound unless they trust Christ for their salvation and follow him as Lord. There is no salvation outside the Church.

Only the bible is from God. It was delivered to the Church by the prophets and apostles of the only existing God.

You dodged the question. How can the truth and a lie be identical? How can the same statement be truth when it’s in the Bible but a lie when it’s in a Buddhist text? Isn’t truth always truth?

What are you, some kind of relativist?😛
