The purpose of excommunication is a last ditch effort by the Church to save the soul of the individual. The hope is that realizing that he is separated from the sacraments will repent and return to the Church. It is like sending a naught child from the table for bad behavior, he is ashamed and sooner or later hungry. He apologizes because he wants to return to the family and he wants to eat. Hopefully an excommunicant will be sorrowed by being separated from the community and will hunger for the sacraments. If he does not miss and long for the sacraments he has worse problems than excommunication to worry about.Would throwing then out proive anything? Would it help them find their way back to truth of life. Will it stop them?
No, No, and No. To be honest. Yes they are violating morals, but we need to help them, not cast them out.
