Javl & AmateurPianist,

Well, you both put me to shame. Your responses to the OP were far more charitable than mine. I’ve taken a few “poundings” lately, and unfortunately, the residual effect carried over in some of my responses. 😊

My apologies to the OP,
Anna
Don’t take it so hard, Anna. I’ve been in the same boat myself and had to be taken down a peg or two. Charity, patience and fortitude! God Bless.

You are very kind. 🙂

A great post, and thank you. We can all learn from you with your understanding. Too often we go at each other, not only with tooth and nail but many times with AK-47s and elephant guns. I know, I learned my lesson. Again, thank you and God Bless.

You are welcome. I think the part about Mary is the best part of the post, as it really clears up what is meant by “Mother of God”:

“…Traditionally, to “mother” is to bear, while to “father” is to originate. Mary “bore” God in her womb, so she is “Theotokos”: God-bearer. In English we say “Mother of God” since she bore God in her womb. She did not originate God, she bore him.”

I have found it difficult to convince either way without causing too much discomfort. So I think I’ll let this thread rest. Until another suitable thread comes along for a fitting comment, thanks for all your kind replies.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in Him. - Amen
  • I still don’t see why there’s a need for me to speak to my Father through somebody else when I can speak to Him directly and clearly, or have someone or some people convey messages that they claim is from Him. Perhaps if I cannot speak to Him, I may resort to the latter, but I’m not in that situation.

Matt 28:16-20: Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Translation:

When I am given well-reasoned answers to my questions I cannot refute, I simply walk away from the thread I started without responding.

So, again I ask you, are you a Christian or are you a Netorian? Is Jesus God? Is Mary his mother?

I wish you would tell us where you got the above teaching in bold from as that is not a Catholic teaching/belief. So where did you learn this from?.

Mosacked,

I urge you not to quit. If you approach another Thread in the same way, the results will be no different than on this Thread.

Just take in what has been said here. You don’t have to agree with all the beliefs of Catholicism; but you can obtain some clarity regarding what Catholics actually believe.

It is okay to be wrong. I should know. I am probably wrong more than I am right. 😉

I came to these forums with many misconceptions about Catholicism. The anti-Catholic rhetoric is prevalent in Protestant Churches, so I do understand.

Just know that this is a good place to sift out the misconceptions. 🙂

A Protestant Friend,

I appreciate the compliment, but I don’t feel like a good person. My failings make for a long list. 😊

BAHHHH! Poppycock.

You’re a good person. It shows in your speech and the way you address people.

We all have failings. No biggie. But I do know what you are trying to say

I think, that verse speaks to the hierarchy of the Roman Rite, and confessing to God is always right; He is forgiving.

No offense I hope, just trying to make Catholics ‘see’ how some of us think.

1 – If the Sacraments themselves can save, doesn’t that mean that if a deviously evil man were to also partake of the Holy Communion, he would join you in your heaven? (please don’t reply and say he wouldn’t attend because even the evil Pharisees went for baptism at the Jordan river)

2 – If Mary was the mother of God, just because she gave birth to Jesus who is God, doesn’t that mean that if you put the foetus of humans into the body of a monkey, then that monkey would be the mother of humans? (no offense, but it’s the closest analogy I can think of).

3 – If the Catholic church is above scripture like what some people here say to explain why they do not follow certain scriptural teachings, wouldn’t that be refuting what God taught? So, is God the master or the disciple?

Hope to see some clear and objective answers.

.
Read the verse and see if you understand Luke 1:28-39,Luke 1:42,Luke 1:48, if this does not help, you are pass help

If we did not need men to teach us, then Jesus would not have appointed teachers:

Matt 28:16-20: Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Also, people seem to be missing a little irony here: In 1 John 2:27, when John says you do not need anyone to teach you, who is saying that? John is! LOL. He is offering a teaching here. So if we shouldn’t have teachers, then you should not listen to that verse.

Wrap your heads around THAT perpetual circle! That could burn out a Start Trek computer.

This is one of the most hateful post I have read in the last 6 years, and I will pray for your soul and may God help you.
You do not know a thing about being a Cathloic, What Church do you belong to. I.l betting it is not a Cathloic or a Christian church may be a very weird church

please excuse me for putting in my two cents worth, but please don’t ever deride yourself again. You are one of the best persons in this forum and I am proud to know you and call you a friend. So, please don’t do that again. :tsktsk:

I have no issue with people, having a need for a teacher, or teachers. To me: it is self-evident. Will you point to me; where I wrote something, that, specifically, confused you.
