"Catholics hate the Bible!". Sorry, I forgot

Ask your fiend, how can that be since it was the Catholic Church which put the Bible together out of many writings in circulation at the time?
 
You know, folks, it goes both ways. Protestants don’t understand Catholicism and Catholics don’t understand protestants. I’ve been on both sides (now Catholic.) Years ago, a Catholic college students refused a Gideon New Testament, saying, I’m Catholic, we don’t read the Bible. Yet, I hear more “Bible” at Mass than I did in my protestant church. I’ve had friends tell me nuns told them not to read the Bible because they won’t understand it. What I’m saying is that you’re going to get so many different answers and responses to the question about Catholics reading the Bible.
 
That’s the issue. Protestants think Catholics are the stubborn ignorant people who need to know the truth.
 
When faced with this what do I say? If I say I don’t want to argue, some see this as weakness or my fear of revealing ignorance. If I’m not willing to argue, I must not be informed enough. If I admit ignorance, that opens the door to evangelism

I believe that Catholics should read the Bible as well as go to mass, we can gain so much from reading the whole book as it was written.

Just FYI, you’ve misread those statistics. That table excludes the book of Psalms which is a major part of scriptural prayer in the Church. So, that’s 13.5% excluding Psalms.

Nevertheless, I totally agree with you. Catholics need to study the Bible as well as other church documents and writings. 😀
 
I saw a YouTube video, Peter Kreeft I think, address this in a funny way. He started saying a verse, then had the congregation finish it, which they all did quite loudly. After 4-5 of those he said, “See, Catholics know their bible! You just don’t know chapter and verse!”
 
That can equally said about Protestants. The chapters and verses are only the few they remember. For the most part, they do not.

Sometimes when I discuss with them I purposely quote the Bible without being specific with the chapter/verse and they don’t seem to notice that I am quoting the Bible. Often they would contradict them thinking it was just my opinion.

Those few chapters and verses that they often quoted to us are the common ones.

So, yes, Dr. Kreeft was right. Catholics do know their Bible and like some Protestants, admittedly some not too well.
 
You are quite wrong because I just talked to his Mother and she said she will speak to her son.
 
Every bible should say on the front: “Edited by the Catholic Church”

The pagan nations in the Old Testament worshiped the so called Queen of heaven but that was some kind of goddess and God was mad of the Israelites because they have started worshiping her.

For now I just want to tell you not to under-estimate a mother, especially whose Son who loves her. Think about that.
 
I have heard many respond to that @Dan_Defender with the “Of course YOU would claim that YOUR church wrote the Bible” and “Actually, it was written before the Catholic Church was established”, and such like.
 
The Hail Mary is in the Bible. And a loving Son will love His Mother enough to venerate Her.

Greetings Tess and welcome to CAF!

It seems you are falling for the typical misconception that prayer equals worship. It does not necessarly equal worship but could be a form of worship. Prayer is, in its simplest form, communication. Worship comes from the heart. In the movie “The War Room” when the main character was rebuking satan, she was speaking to him and you would not consider this worship would you? If she can speak directly to satan any reason she, you, or i cant speak directly to Mary or the saints? Any reason we would ask our friend to pray for us but not ask the saints to do the same? Prayer does not equal worship!

As far as your reference to Jer 44:15-17, are you accusing Catholics of offering up incense and pouring out libations to anyone other than God? If so i recommend you attend a Catholic Mass without the blinders you seem to wear.

In the OT, if you wanted something from the King, you asked the King’s mother. The King’s mother was actually called the Queen
 
Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus during the Transfiguration because Jesus wanted to show HIS disciplines that HE is greater than the Prophets and the Law.

God can share HIS glory with NO ONE, NOT EVEN MARY.

Moses represented the law and Elijah represented the prophets and that is why when Peter suggested that they set up 3 temples. One for Jesus, another for Elijah and then Moses, GOD the Father rebuked him. In a sense HE was warning them not to compare Jesus who is God with the prophets or the Law.

4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

Here we are talking about God’s kingdom. Somethings do no need theology. You just have to leave them the way they are.

There is no where in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation where they talk about Heaven having a queen. The only people they talk about are the ministering angels talked about in Psalms, Cherubins and seraphins, the 4 living creatures and the saints and a saint is anyone who is in Christ. Born of water (baptism by immersion) and born of the Holy Spirit

If you give a scripture that talks about heaven’s queen, then I will re-convert to catholism
