Same way you would a heterosexual.
i’LL STICK WITH A HIGHER AUTHORITY ,ST PAUL SAID ,“HOMOSXUALITY IS A VILE AFFECTION” AND I hope God doesn’t destroy all those that knew of homosexuality, but did nothing to stop it ,like HE did at Sodom & Gomorah.! better yet,I hope He does?

after skipping over EVERY reply…

Was this survey done on the phone or as people were exiting Church?

Dead people can’t repent.

There is a line of thinking out there that God did not destroy Sodom and Gomorah because of their unrepentant and aggressive homosexuality, but rather because they weren’t nice. Go figure, being inhospitable is a vile sin worthy of raining down heavenly fire and destruction. 🤷

Do you really believe in that destruction story literally? Do you really believe that somewhere on this planet, at a certain time and hour in history, God entirely destroyed a city? (or two cities?)

why not? Cities have been destroyed.
Do you believe Pompeii was destroyed?

As Catholics we are not required to have a literal interpretation of Scripture. If you do not believe this took place you are free to do so at is not an impediment to being Catholic. We cannot say the same about Church teaching on homosexuality. Whether we are comfortable with the teaching or not it is a doctrine of the church is not going to change. There are some teachings of the church I have great difficulty with- for instance I do not understand their ban on barrier methods of contraception. But I accept the teaching, follow the teaching and would never try to convince others that the teaching was wrong. If the church is wrong about contraception and homosexuality how can I trust them to have been right about the resurrection?

Sure, why wouldn’t one believe that?
Even if I wasn’t a devout Catholic who takes Scripture seriously, I’d find the destruction of a city or two much more scientifically possible than the Virgin Birth, or Jesus walking on the water, or His rising from the dead.
God is a God of justice as well as mercy.

This is a great response & makes it worthwhile to check back at the forums from time to time.
Great wisdom & humilty.👍 I’m impressed!

why not? you dont think that could happened. just because you werent there it doesnt mean it did not happened, does it? let’s hope that some thousands years from now, people like you believe that the suname happened in our time. or maybe they wont.

destruction by God of a city is not “scientifically” measurable any more than a virgin birth is. I am not sure what you mean.

But, your answer is, “Yes”? You take the destruction of those two cities literally? That God destroyed the cities? And every inhabitant in it was killed? Wow. Ok. I don’t meet many people who believe that.

Do you take the Flood literally too?

Could God have flooded the whole world? of course he could. Did he? I dont think so. Is that disbelief a probelm for a Catholic? No.

Ahhh, a follower of the religion of science…

God may rain down fire. Or a rotten people may find the local environment, seemingly naturally, turns against them. Either works.

So, no on the Flood. But yes on Sodom and Gomorrah. Interesting choices. I say no on both. 🤷

In science, there is no absolute truth

so be careful what you call a “religion”. Save the moniker for your own worship, I think.
You just made an absolute statement. This is the problem with Kant, Hume, etc. You cant know anything about anything with ant degree of certainty.

Huh?

I made a statement, yes. It is just a subject and a predicate making a claim. I did not claim that there are no claims made in declarative sentences.

I said, there is no absolute truth in science. With the point being, that to call it a “religion” is to falsely compare it to “Catholicism” or other religions in the traditional literal sense of the word.

The statement “There are no absolutes” is in itself, an absolute statement.
