Well said. And what good is the manual (Bible) is you don’t have the car (the Church).
Well said. And what good is the manual (Bible) is you don’t have the car (the Church).
There is Eucharistic prayer said at Mass. It’s in the Eucharistic Liturgy.Oh, so ’ do this in memory of me’ translates into:
" Ordained Catholic Priests shall possess the power to summon the Holy Spirit to turn an ordinary piece of bread into the very flesh, blood soul and divinity of Jesus Chris the Son of God. Further more, one must fast 1 hour prior to eating the host, and one may not eat for 15 minutes after eating the flesh of the Son of God. Further more, only ordained Catholic Priests may complete this amazing feat, but no one will be able to tell that a great mystery has taken place and the last thing is that this Eucharist will be able to forgive venial sins of people, now of course, the term venial sin is not yet explained or written anywhere, but when the most Holy Roman Catholic Church gets around to it, you will know what I am talking about."
Yeah, makes perfect sense to me.
In the rite of Constantinople, we say, after the Words of Institution:There is Eucharistic prayer said at Mass. It’s in the Eucharistic Liturgy.
“May your Holy Spirit come upon these gifts to make them Holy, that they become the Body and Blood of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
The Bible isn’t a book. It’s a library. We can’t be certain as to the literal accuracy of much of what’s in the Bible, due to aggressive, thorough, and purposeful editorial redaction effected by the many authors and editors of Biblical content, they who belonged to the post-Easter Church. Yes, I believe they were inspired by the Holy Spirit, but I find it harmful to Christianity for us to bicker over exact verbiage and minor details derived from said verbiage. We must get on with the greater mission of Christian peoples, which is the salvation of Man, in Jesus’ name.Catholics Say:
The Eucharist ceases to be
bread when consecrated and
becomes the flesh of Christ.
A metaphysical change takes
place.
The Scriptues Say:
Jesus himself says, "The bread which comes from Heaven is my flesh.
Catholics Say:
Mary is co-mediatrix with Christ.
The Scriptures Say:
There is but one mediator between God and man being Christ Jesus.
Catholics Say:
Mary was born without sin and remained sinless her whole life.
The Scriptures Say:
Mary herself said, “I rejoice in God who is my savior”.
Catholics Say:
Mary was assumed into Heaven body and spirit.
The Scripture Says:
Nothing whatsoever to prove this happened.
Catholics Say:
Jesus was an only child.
The Scriptures Say:
Jesus had brothers and sisters both.
Still convinced that the Bible is a Catholic book??![]()
Those that believe in the Real Presence
Catholics - 1,120,000,000
Eastern Orthodox - 225,000,000
Oriental Orthodox - 72,000,000
Total - 1,417,000,000
Hey, count the Old Catholics in on that one!Anglicanism - 77,000,000 (Some believe in the Real Presence, some do not)
Who cares what the Catechism says? Is it the Word of God? Of course not.I like to add that Christianity is not the “religion of the book.”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states the following.
108 Still, the Christian faith is not a “religion of the book.” Christianity is the religion of the “Word” of God, a word which is “not a written and mute word, but the Word which is incarnate and living”.73 If the Scriptures are not to remain a dead letter, Christ, the eternal Word of the living God, must, through the Holy Spirit, "open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures."
I’m not sure what the view of the Eastern Orthodox Christians is on that part of the Catechism; but I believe they must agree we are the religion of Jesus Christ.
why are you stuck on those that deny the Real Presence? Who is denying it here?SIA,
Out of curiousity, can you show me some extra-Biblical references of any early Christians that denied the Real Presence, besides Gnostics, Docetists, and Arians? (I’m throwing those three groups out because even Protestants would deny the bulk of their beliefs about Christianity, such as non-Trinitarianism.)
You only need Scripture alone to disprove Catholic beliefs. I suppose you could use ancient tradition as well but so far the Bible itself is working well enough to do the job.You did, see above. You are using Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura translated to English) to “disprove” Catholic beliefs.
So you don’t believe it was Mary who was the Ark of the New Covenant, that she was not pregnant with Our Lord and Savior, and that her yes to God (“be it done to me according to Thy Word”) would not classify her as a co-redemptrix?
In order for something to be anti-anything, doesn’t the one entity (Scripture) have to have a stance on the matter at hand in the first place??? You yourself said that there was no mention in Scripture of the Assumption. That cannot be anti-biblical!
How do you get from Do This In Memory of Me to only Roman Catholic priests can change bread and wine into flesh and blood? I didn’t see any of that in the Bible, but oh!! I forgot, you folks don’t need to jive with Scripture just as long as Holy Father rubber stamps it!!Jesus told his Apostles at the last supper, “Do this in rembrance of me.” The priests are the Apostles successors. This is done so by the laying on the hand. This is past on from generation to generation and continues on today. This is Apostolic Succession. Actually, I am not making this up. This has been believed for 2,000 yrs. Read the writings of the ECF.
Any serious Christian should read it. It was written by those much more enlightened than you or I.Who cares what the Catechism says? Is it the Word of God? Of course not.
how about God?Any serious Christian should read it. It was written by those much more enlightened than you or I.
Christ’s PEACE be with you.
Well you messed up the syllogism…Ah here is a classic! Something is wrong with my mind and my thought and perception process. Something is wrong with most everyone’s, so therefore we MUST conform to the interpretation of Scripture that the Almighty Catholic Magisterium sets forth. No thanks.

Yes, God the Word reigns over the word of God, and the Orthodox are in full agreement with this from the CCC (and a lot of the CCC, btw).I like to add that Christianity is not the “religion of the book.”

So far not on this thread. You only need Scripture alone to disprove Catholic beliefs. I suppose you could use ancient tradition as well but so far the Bible itself is working well enough to do the job.
Protestants must disregard Scripture to satisfy their doctrines.
Protestants say;
solo scriptura
The Scriptures say:
“Therefore brethren, stand fast and hold the TRADITIONS which you were taught by word or our epistle” II Thessalonians 2:15
“Now I praise you that you remember me in all things and keep the TRADITIONS just as I delievered them to you.” I Corinthians 11:2
Protestans say:
You shouldn’t make such a fuss about Mary
The Scriptures say:
"Elizabeth was FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT then she spoke out with a loud voice and said “BLESSED ARE YOU among women and blessed is the fruit of YOUR womb. But why is it GRANTED TO ME that the MOTHER of my Lord should come to me?” Luke 1:42-3.
Protestans say:
Just read the Bible.
The Scriptures say:
"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,’ 2 Peter 1:20
“How can I understand unless someone guides me?” Acts 8:31
“There are some things in them hard to understand, which the unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.” 2 Peter 3:16.
"Prescribe and teach these things. Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
" I Timothy 4:
He’s gone from solo scriptura to sine scriptura.SIA:
For arguing on the authority of Scripture, I have not seen one quote of Scripture in your posts as you have accused others of doing.
Very interesting post except for one thing: By writing this you are exposing yourself as a hypocrite.Catholics Say:
