Catholics need to submit themselves to Allah

If she was a follower of Paul, then it is more than doubtful she would have used that word. Because at the time of Paul, what is known today as Turkey was “Grecophile” (Greek culture, Greek language)

Yeah that’s probably more likely but I was thinking that it possibly was a Greek word as well that came into Turkish at some point so I should’ve said possibly instead of probably. Anyways it doesn’t really matter whether she did or didn’t. This much I do know the word predated the Ottoman Turks and it was used by early Christians. There are some Christians in Turkey who flat-out refuse to use Allah. My Catholic friend who is not a Turk but who speaks fluent Turkish refuses to use it because when he does everybody thinks he is Muslim.
Exactly! That’s the point I’ve been making as well 🙂
I just wish everybody would stop acting like Islam has a monopoly on the word Allah and I really wish Benjamin would not create all of this confusion by trying to impose his own personal definition of the word Allah on to other people by putting them down when they disagree with him. Doing these things is just plain wrong!

I am pretty offended that the OP assumes that this is not something that Catholics already do. Do we submit ourselves to Allah, al-Thaluth? You bet! بسم الاب والابن والروح القدس, these things belong to Arab Christianity as much if not moreso than to Islam. No, Muslims do not have the exclusive “right” to certain words of the Arabic language that were in use by other religious communities before them. They may define “Allah” as the proper name of God if they wish, but they do not have the right to prevent other communities that also speak Arabic or a related language from using the word “Allah” to denote their own concept of God in keeping with their own scriptures. To say that “Allah” is just the word for “God” (not quite a “common” noun, but not the personal pronoun that Muslims want it to be) is true, but only with regard to the Arab Christians, not with regard to Muslims. We have had this discussion on this board before, and it has led to a stalemate. This thread will not help it.

If I thank Allah for my food by saying “Bismillah” before eating, I am thanking God the Father, the Almighty, first of the Holy Trinity. I am not engaging in worship of the Islamic vision of what “Allah” means. So, yes, I will submit myself to Allah as I always have a Christian, specifically as I must as a Catholic, and I will not listen to such nonsense that tells me that I need to in any way bring the Islamic version of Allah into it. I too am a “submitter”, but not to a power that swears by animals, that allows His final prophet and best example for humanity to do things that in the Holy Bible were disallowed (my Allah is all-wise and consistent, from age to age), and that places “seals” on the hearts of men that do not allow them to hear His message. This is not my Allah. This is not the Allah of any Christian. I will not submit myself to this Allah ever for any reason.

yes THANK YOU that is EXACTLY what I’m trying to say!:clapping: :yyeess: I use Bismillah, Mashallah and my favorite Inshallah and I am most certainly invoking God my father when I use them.** I will never invoke the Islamic definition of God because I DO NOT believe that Mohammed is the final prophet of God at all!**It is so nice to know that there are other Christians who used the words as well because sometimes it feels like I have to fight this battle alone.

Very good post! It certainly puts the entire issue into perspective when you think of Arab Christians who have traditionally used the term for centuries. It’s funny how this thread has generally overlooked Arab Christians.

I understand your frustration and I know where you`re coming from. But like I said many times before, Muslims submit themselves more to Mohammed then they do to Allah. Thus making Catholics the true Muslims:p Anyhow, read the post above me and see what I mean.

I pray to All, I believe in Allah, and I submit to Allah, He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and for any Muslim who loves and fears Him will meet His Son in heaven. 🙂

PEACE!! SHALOM!! ALAYHIS SALAM!!
Hey!

Its ok!

I believe in Allah the Father, Allah the Son and Allah the Holy Spirit.

Allah spoke and the Word of Allah became flesh - Jesus Christ.

Which is why I worship Jesus Christ because He is Allah, made flesh.

It is easier for a muslim to believe that Allah became a book but it is inconceivable that the Word of Allah became flesh.

Gee whiz…a muslim becomes violent over someone treating the a book with disrespect …yet…the same treatment of Jesus does not illicit violence from a catholic…hmmm.

Maybe because Jesus (the Word of Allah made flesh) is Peace.
