Why do you think that we understand Peter’s exhortation to us in a different way?
It’s the glasses.
Code:
We share so much in common. I don't have to discuss the dual nature of Christ, His incarnation, His sinlessness, His perfect life and sacrifical death.
All these elements are products of the Catholic faith. If we dont’ need to discuss them, it is because you have accepted the Apostolic Teaching through the Catholic Church.
By ‘discuss’ do you mean you want to tell us what we believe?
God bless
I honestly don’t think he knows he comes across this way.
Sure, since this is the non-Catholic religion section on Catholic Answers.

If you want to learn about Protestantism, I guess this is a good place to be.
No, 2nd. this would be a misunderstanding. All of the areas are part of CAF. While I agree that this is a good section to learn about Protestantism, in no case is it approproate for you to tell us what we believe. For one thing, you have made it clear you do not undersatand our faith, secondly, you telling us what we believe is not any more conducive to good communication as are the bolded typefaces to you.
As long as we understand that our views of predestination should never divide us. As you probably know, Reformed Christians value the views of Augustine.
There you go again with one of your “shoulds”. By what authority do you come here to instruct us in what we should do?
The fact is that Calvin’s departures from the Apostolic faith have already divided us. Pretending that these departures do not divide us will not contribute to unity, because it avoids the Truth, and we all agree that unity is based in the Truth.
Reformed Christians only value the parts of Augustine that seem to reinforce their innovative theology. Augustine was Catholic, so they avoid all the Catholic passages.
Well, I believe we are all born spirituality dead and in enmity with God according to Scrirpture, and that God makes us spirituality alive. Therefore, I believe our new birth is completely dependent on the grace and mercy of God.
This reflects the errant notion of total depravity according to Calvin. Also off topic in this thread. Apologetics would be an appropriate venue.

I agree that Protestants understand the doctrine of justification by faith differently. But, should that divide us?
Yes. Truth should always be distinguished from error. This is the duty of the Church.
It is by the authority of God, that I share this with you.
No, 2nd. You are not the authority of God. All valid authority comes from God, and is passed on by those whom God has appointed. It is not separated from the authority that He has ordained, as you are. Authorized persons are also sent forth. You sent yourself.
Code:
It is His Holy Word, not mine. My assurance in Christ is as good as the promises of God, for it is impossible for God to lie.
His word, yes, but it is filtered through your own perceptions. Your perceptions have been colored by your experineces and education (or lack of it).
Code:
10 Therefore, brothers, [7] be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I am glad you chose this scripture, because it is a good example of how one’s perceptions (filters) change the way they understand what they read.
You see, when Catholics read this, we do so through the lens of what the Apostles believed and taught. In so doing, we notice the word “if” in the sentence above. This is what is known as a conditional article. It means that the result is predicated upon the premise. It means that if you don’t practice those things, you could fall. If you don’t follow this “way”, the richly provided entrance into eterniity may not be available.
Well, the OP link about “Catholics need to read their Bibles” is from a Catholic which was posted on Catholic Answers.
Yes, so let’s try to stay on topic, ok?
You have no idea of my understanding of 2 Peter 1. I think you just want to argue for arguing sake. Please explain to me how we understand 2 Peter 1 differently.
I think I have done this. It has to do with the glasses. You wear Calvinistic glasses, we wear Apostolic.
The Christian Faith does not rise or fall with Luther or Calvin. Please get the source like all of us… the Internet.
No, but your permission to post here does rise and fall with following the forum rules. You are required to cite your sources here.
Actually, that’s a very good biblical view.
By which I think you mean that it conforms to what your view of the bible is.

I think where Catholics get confused is about how does a saved person look like in the Christian life.
This line is a good example of you putting forth your opinion as authoritative. You say you know in part, yet you make comments like this that indicate when Catholics see things differently, they are “confused”. Do you see the condescending attitude we are talking about?
