Do you realize how condescending and arrogant you sound, even if that is not your intent? You posted the link to the Pope’s General Audience entitled “The Doctrine of Justification: from Works to Faith” and assume that 1) we don’t know what our own Pope (or Church, for that matter) has been saying about things all along and 2) that you, not being brought up Catholic and having far far less instruction in Catholic doctrine than any of us that you would understand it better than we do? (You don’t, by the way.)

All you’re going to do if you keep going in this direction is to offend a lot of people, along with giving them a slight chuckle when they read what you think the Pope is saying. You’re doing all of this while trying to give us pointers on how to better argue with Protestants?
i Hi it’s my first time to join this forum and am quite keen to read the above subject(Catholic need to read their bible). Infact am a protestant and i have spend most of my life with the catholic friends whom i grew up with. I respected them so much and i often heard from them as we discuss openly with our religion is they said they lack the understanding of the scripture. Would this be a concern for the catholic church?

Welcome Sosolak, If you have come to CA with questions I am sure you will find many Catholics do read the scriptures and are able to answer your qustions. Not all Catholics are scripture scholars, but we do the best we can .We are most happy to share our faith with you. Again welcome and God bless you. :)Carlan

Are you Catholic in name and part of another community that does not believe in the teachings of the Church …

My post is not intended to be insulting or offensive, instead it is intended to ignite your heart and mind - to bring about reflection and to challenge you in a humanly attempt to imitate the challenges Christ has given to us.
Great post SW! 👍

I think Tweety left the faith into which she was baptized for many decades. She became steeped in Protestant theology, and recently returned to a Catholic parish because of her husband. I am sure she will correct me if I misunderstood. Her participation is in the Catholic parish, but her heart and theology are still Protestant. It does not seem that she was ever properly catechized in the Catholic faith. If she were, she would not have left. RCIA is agood place for her, but it is scary that she is disingenously representing herself there, just as she does here. Thanks for you contribution to the thread.

Welcome SOSOLAK!

Yes, it is a great concern that most Catholics do not spend enough time with their Scripture.

That is moral relativism. “What’s right for some may be wrong for others.”
The truth is the TRUTH - period.

What frightens me is that you teach catechumens about the Catholic faith . . .
Too bad I would enjoy having you in my class about prayer.

The problem is you are in profound disagreement with the Church. in reading your posts it appears that you have embraced a strange mixture of ecumenism flavored with universalism. You can call ir catholic if y9u like but it is not.
Once again thank you .

**And you’ve already been shown that we are CALLED UPON to correct and admonish one another (Colossians 3:1-17, Romans 5:14).
NOT to do so would be the ultimate act of uncharity.

This is a woman who is wrongly
catechising people eager to enter the Church by misrepresenting the Catholic faith. She needs to be corrected and admoinished.
I am not repeat misrepresting the Catholic faith, never have and never will. If and when I need to be corrected and admoninished I know that God will do the work. And no matter what I still love you with the Love of the Lord!

Colossians 3:1-17 and Romans 5:14 tell us to teach, to correct and to admonish one another in the truth. 1 Cor. 13 doesn’t “trump” this - it reinforces it.
We admonish and correct out of love and when so-called Catholics spew the kind of warped and perverted views of the Catholic faith that Tweetymom does - we MUST correct and admonish.

While we’re on the subject of 1 Cor. 13 - funny how Paul doesn’t say that faith is the greatest virtue - but LOVE is.
Not very Protestant-friendly words, in light of Sola Fide . . .
Maybe you should try some of Gods Love It is quite wonderful. Romans8:28

I am sure you don’t believe you are, or you would not call yourself “Catholic” here on CAF, yet deny the Catholic faith.

I am sure you believe that what you are doing is fine. That is one of the curses of relativism.

I am also sure that God will correct you when you need it. It may be that He is trying to use people here at CAF, and you are too stubborn to listen. 🤷

I am sure you love the Lord. Apollos did too. 👍

We see some of God’s “tough” love with the Pharisees too. He was hardest on them, because they claimed to belong to Him, just like you claim to be Catholic. We can see clearly that He laid into them quite regularly that they did not practice what they preach. It appears that you are in the same boat. Instead, you claim to “teach” a faith you do not espouse, and with which you do not agree. 🤷

you know what ( have embraced? Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. And thank you once again for your judgeement call a bit off topic but hey if you get you kicjs this way then go in peace!

Be my guest if that makes you feel bette then peace to you
Actually, it would give me a lot more peace if you would refrain from pretending to be Catholic. However, give me the name of your parish, and I will get right on it. 😦

My only judgement is that you have continualy espoused Doctrines that are toral rejections of the teachings of the Church yet claim to be catholic. Its like someone telling us they teach mathematics at a univerity but continualy claim that 2 PLUS 2 =5…

Furthermore - you actually believe that God creates some people destined** for hell.

Hope that helps.

Would you try hard not to put words in my mouth. Everyone is born into this world on the road to Hell. Everyone is condemned, dead in our sins and trespasses. God sent His Son into this world to save His people from their sins. Jesus Christ rescues His people from Hell.

Matthew 1:21

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

You know that there are many many Catholics who do not agree wiht official Catholic doctrine. Many Catholics who do not agree with the Magestrium do not leave the Catholic Church to try to reform the Catholic Church from within. This has nothing to do with Tweetymom, but is a true statement.

You know that there are many many Catholics who do not agree wiht official Catholic doctrine.
And therefore are not really Catholic.
Many Catholics who do not agree with the Magestrium do not leave the Catholic Church to try to reform the Catholic Church from within.
The minute they reject Catholic dogma they effectively leave the Church.

Indeed, it is sadly a very true statement. It is also true that some of them are teaching the faith, when they should not be.

They call such “Catholics” cafeteria Catholics. I don’t agree. I say they are Protestant, but don’t know it, just like Tweety is Protestant, but doesn’t know it. I say this with generosity, as she claims to be a fervent Christian, and I take her word for it, so I don’t believe she would bear false witness about herself, calling herself Catholic, unless she believed it. She, along with all those others who do not accept the Teachings of Jesus preserved in the Church, are mistaken.

Honestly, I really believe dear brothers like Scott Hahn let go of Sola Scriptura in error. If I let go of Sola Scriptura as an essential truth, I could easily be Catholic. However, being Catholic or Protestant is not a crucial error from my view. Hence… ECT III on Catholic Answers!
Well you need to be Cathloic because Soka Scriptura is as fakse as you can get,And read your Bible and you will see it is false
