Catholics not Christians???

I just read an article on abcnews.com about this Catholic based city in Florida, which the man who started Dominoes pizza, is founding. ABC nicknamed the city “Bibletown USA” since it is founded on Christian values.

Well, one person responded to the article, saying that “Bibletown USA” was a misnomer because Catholics don’t follow the bible and that catholicism is a sort of paganized christianity. He also said that Catholics don’t follow Christ, and so we really aren’t Christians.

I’m just wondering how in the world protestants can say that Catholics aren’t Christians. Anyone who has studied history knows that the Catholic church was the church of the early christians - the church started by Jesus Christ. So it just astounds me when protestants - who broke off from the catholic church, can now say that catholics are not christian.

First of all, there’s no evidence at all that Jesus Christ founded Roman Catholicism.

Second, we can claim that Roman Catholics aren’t Christians just about as easily as your pope can claim that we’re not Christians.

You can say whatever inane statement that you want, that does not make it true. No matter how you define Christian, we come out far more Christian that any protestant ever will.

Just go back 500 years, and the only Christians around are ALL Catholics. Protestant were not even on the horizon. We can trace our roots back to the apostles and the first century. There is a continuous line of popes all the way back to St. Peter.

You folks can’t even get past Martin Luther or Calvin or Wesley or Smith. Heck, some of your denominations can’t even get past the last pastor who split off on some petty dispute.

The Pope never claimed the protestants are not Christians. The evidence that Jesus Christ found Roman Catholicism is evident in the fact it was the only Christian church for 1500 years.

This is something that I have heard from what I call super-Protestants. It is an unfounded statement really. What can they really hang their hats on though? 100 years or less of knowing the supposed truth? Do they think that believers in Jesus’ day were just merely pagans?
