Woo!
Let us pray that the Anglicans take heed and rejoin with the real Church!

What is truly amazing about this article is the information as to how few Britons actually attend Church on Sunday.

Given the large degree to which many churches, especially mainline Protestant ones, are indistinguishable from a secular social club, is it any wonder?

Martin Luther King Jr. warned that if churches came to be perceived as having lost their authentic spiritual mission, then the churches would be dismissed as irrelevant.

Reminds me of an old joke:

A Catholic church, a synogogue, and an Unitarian church all on the same street caught fire at the same time. The priest showed up, and he rushed into the burning building and rescued the consecrated Host from the Tabernacle. The rabbi showed up and he rushed into the burning building, and rescued the scroll of the Torah. The Unitarian minister showed up, and she rushed into the burning building, and rescued the photocopier and the coffee maker.

I think the over head projector is more important than the photocopier. Wasn’t there any donuts in there?

Peace!

Odd, as CWR had a report last month about the collapse of the Catholic church in England. it is very secularized according to that report and if the native british Catholics need Polish immigrants to bolster mass attendance that IMO speaks to the actual spiritual weakness of the CC in Britian.

BTW, if there are 25 million Anflicans in Britian how can catholics at 4.2 million be the largest religion or soon to be?!

This report is mostly wishful thinking and innacurate in terms of the headline and what numbers are actually given within the article.

I went to the CWR website to read the report about the
“collapse of the Catholic church in England”, but I cannot
find it. Could you give us the URL?

BTW, what is your source for stating that there are
“25 million Anflicans [sic] in Britian [sic]” ?

Thanks.

It depends on whether you are counting average Sunday worship attendance or using some other measuring stick. According to the BBC, “26m described themselves as Anglicans at the latest Census, however, the Church of England puts the number of regular churchgoers at 2.75m.”

The article itself gives that number. Double check.

If you are going by Mass attendance then Islam, mosque attendance, would be the largest faith as supposedly there are more British Muslims at Friday services than Anglicans at Sunday services. And the article states Anglicans and Catholics are equal in Sunday attendance.

This article is playing fast and loose IMO.

I subscribe to CWR and it was in last month’s issue. Unfortunately they have not put that article on their site. They only post a few articles online.
