Wow, I did not expect a lot of response. So basically realcatholictv is in union with the Church. That is what I wanted to know. Thank you all so much. I kind of thought that they might be from the little that I did watch on the blogs. God Bless you all.🙂
The are in union with the Church in that the individuals involved are in union with the Church, but they are not an lay apostolate of their diocese. That is one key difference. Catholic TV is an outreach of the Catholic Church. RealCatholicTV is a a lay website *about *the Catholic Church, like a video blog.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. 😉

CTV I cannot comment on. But given the kind of scandal still rife in the Archdiocese of Boston, I am not in a big hurry to add it to my viewing list at this time. : )
I quite enjoy Catholic tv. Fr. Robert Reed is the President of the station. He’s a great Priest and I understand he studied at the Pontifical North American College for some time so he’s quite faithful to the Magisterium.

Nana, the individuals, Michael Voris, et al, may be in union with the church, but the website and some of its content is questionable. Since the Archdiocese of Detroit (where RCTV officiates) has not given approval for its apostolate, that may be the reason for others, such as the Diocese of Scranton and World Youth Day, to exercise prudence with regard to their ministering therein.

My biggest objection to their videos is the constant denigration of the hierarchy that I have personally witnessed, and even reported here at CAF, resulting in removal of some of these links. It may help you to read the site review here.
RealCatholicTV is particularly concerned with the inroads of secularism into the Church, and users should be aware that a great many of the programs attempt to expose ecclesiastical shortcomings, with considerable criticism of Church leaders.
The site opened with the support of various bishops in the U.S., though as its programming has become increasingly critical of the Church, some bishops have withdrawn their support.

While thoroughly approving many of the fine videos made available through this site, CatholicCulture.org recommends caution for two reasons:
An apparent animus against the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite, contrary to the clear mind of the Church; and a tendency to over-simply complex cultural, ecclesiastical and theological problems, leading sometimes to the assertion of mere opinion as the “real Catholic” position. Thus those who disagree find their Catholicism put in question. See the Weaknesses section for examples.

According to the Archdiocese of Detroit RealCatholicTV has not requested approval of its apostolate and programming. A letter dated February 2011, signed by Ned McGrath, Director of Communications, Archdiocese of Detroit states: “Therefore, the catechetical presentations, the analysis of Catholic teachings or positions, and the commentary on Church leadership presented by St. Michael’s Media and/or RealCatholicTV— be they audio, video, or exclusively Web-based— cannot be approved or endorsed by the archdiocese at this time.” This does not mean that they would not receive approval should they comply with the basic archdiocesan media protocols and those of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

The website does not create itself. The content is created BY those faithful individuals.

And I’ve noticed Sirach, that you have yet to call the studio and voice your complaints. To date, no one has called, saying they where here on this forum and offered the phone number, to voice complaints. Everyone is perfectly happy and bold enough to say all manner of incorrect and even slanderous things on the internet, but why don’t you just pick up the phone and talk to a real human being about your concerns?

~Liza

Liza,

As spokeswoman for RCTV, you have a monumental interest in defending the website. We’ve been down this path before, and I see no reason to call the studio, for I have made no secret of my disagreements with disparagement of the clergy. In one video called WMD, you praised the work, yet CAF thought otherwise and removed it, as they have also removed other videos of this caliber.

Indeed, I am not alone in my assessment of what he presents. From the Catechism:

**2497 **By the very nature of their profession, journalists [including web videos] have an obligation to serve the truth and not offend against charity in disseminating information. They should strive to respect, with equal care, the nature of the facts and the limits of critical judgment concerning individuals. They should not stoop to defamation.

Michael seriously defames the clergy when he lumps them into one body and denigrates them as a whole. This is entirely foreign to Catholic teaching, notably in V-II’s *Inter Mirifica. *
Therefore, in society men have a right to information, in accord with the circumstances in each case, about matters concerning individuals or the community. The proper exercise of this right demands, however, that the news itself that is communicated should always be true and complete, within the bounds of justice and charity. In addition, the manner in which the news is communicated should be proper and decent. This means that in both the search for news and in reporting it, there must be full respect for the laws of morality and for the legitimate rights and dignity of the individual. For not all knowledge is helpful, but “it is charity that edifies.”
You’ve certainly seen public disapproval of Michael’s crude and distasteful manner of presentation, so I would suggest that be a good starting point towards true edification of those he hopes to catechize.

God bless :).

I will tell you my reason. I have have no place to sit in judgment upon them. Like RCTV, I have no standing in the Church to voice a complaint. I do not complain about them for the same reason I do not complain about Rush Limbaugh or American Idol - it is easy enough to change the channel. That is how I deal with most programs that do not suit my taste, be it because I find them insulting to my faith or insulting of my family within the faith, or even just disturbing to my spirit.

On this forum, we are free to discuss such things. There is no obligation to provide feedback to the programs we do not like any more than we have an obligation to report bugs to Microsoft.

There are enough “sounding gongs” to deal with in real life. No inclination to speak to them about internet blabbermouths

I just don’t listen, like pnewton.

Wow, get a life or put your aluminum foil cone hat back on. Sorry to be judgmental , but since you want to believe some on line sudo teacher who claims to give the truth and has not credintials other then a slick web site over our bishops, then
You’re very charitable and your arguments are top notch. Tin Foil hat, name calling every which way == because clearly i made no substantive or pointed to substantive material of this being the case! 👍
you have truly been lead down the wrong path by Voris and he is doing real damage to the Church, not good.
Are you God? How can you see where I am. From all the way over there? You’re judging where I am in standing as a Catholic? Voris leads me nowhere, dude! Can you see omnisciently that Voris damaging the Church. Real Damage. Wow you can see it now too??

If i were to appeal to A Franciscan Priest who has said the same things about certain Mass abuses, or Cardinals or Bishops or even written documents, or the priests who’ve battled these bishops. Would you say they are leading me down the wrong path?
What of when the Saints would reprove and admonish.

Really, if I played your game, of trying to judge where you ARE at in Holiness, or whatever, I could accuse you of being “used or led by the wrong path”

I would however have leverage in doing SO! because I don’t attack posters on here in the name of patting myself on the back; regarding what they like or don’t like about RealCatholic TV.

Is that charitable? And then you insinuate that Michael Voris is possibly leading others astray implicating him to do the work of the enemies of the Church?

God Bless you FAB, you’re lucky I’m not one of those CAF posters that would flag your post where you would get an infraction. But really, I forgive you for being unkind. Obviously you took one look at my post and did not know I was making my post based on historical FACTS/Actions in the last half of the century. Also from what I know about Modernism. There is a Reason why Pope Pius X wanted oaths from his priests.

Obviously the Church needs to clean house from time to time! So I don’t think you should go around accusing others of being conspiracy theorists. Even Venerable Servant of God, Fulton Sheen had to deal with firsthand converts who talked about bad priests trying to make a mess of things. Was he being tin foil about communists targeting our Church??

You can apologize all you want for being judgmental; I wouldn’t call it righteous judgment. I 'd call it judgment from a place of ignorance, and haughty indifference, and presumed piety. It’s dangerous to be self-assured, FAB, please don’t think you know MYSELF better than I do.

I’ve also seen Cardinals and Bishops, Religious Orders talk with Voris . They didn’t admonish him or tell him to stop either. Don’t you think the priests he has on, interviews would bring up your invocation of the Catechism as if that is a condemnation on him??

Or the authoritative judgment starts with you? 😉
Michael seriously defames the clergy when he lumps them into one body and denigrates them as a whole.
He doesn’t do that when he says he’s disgusted when a bishop gives communion to a scandalizing Catholic Politician or doesn’t speak up on abortion/gay marriage. What about when he praises the good bishops? Even singled them out on a whole, in one video. So when he appeals to Bishops when they make the* right decisions, in actions we CAN see*? Does that mean, he promotes the Clergy and lumping them into ONE Body and praises them on a whole too because he’s a propagandist for the Church!!!

You see what I’m getting at? Also what about when he quotes faithful bishops like now Cardinal Burke in reproving our Clergy??
Is he denigrating them while praising them at the same time?

The Clergy defames itself whenever it is complicit to evil; just like the bad bishops defamed itself in regard to the Clergy Scandals. Are you going to just blame the media? Or was it also the fault of the imprudence of our bishops?

The scandals in the late 90’s and 2000’s were not just the media distorting things.

God permitted the wolves at the door from the sins of the Church, nothing will be concealed or hidden; and the bishops that didn’t listen hurt the Church with their actions.

not to get on your case pnewton. I dont’ care to bicker over Voris with fellow Catholics, people have a right to reject his style. But your comment is complaining about them. :rotfl:

It’s one of those self-refuting things where you post “i don’t care about this topic” by posting on a thread you’re not supposed to care about.

What I find Voris is doing is puncturing the idea that, a “nice personality” = Virtuousness or something. One priest says this is ridiculous assumption now by contemporary Catholics, in pluralistic society.

Even the other arguments against Voris is less with what he says, and only that he has to be charitable. But a lot of people don’t know what it MEANS to be charitable. In fact, they end up slamming the “uncharitable” Michael Voris with half-truths, innuendo, gossip and making fun of him personally, and him as a person, regarding his credentials etc.
Then you got others who act as if they have a monopoly on Charity, and know what’s best for the Holy Mother Church.

Especially Catholics this day in age. If you’ve seen him interviewed by Michael Coren. He seems pretty decent and sincere.

The only criticism I would have on Voris — and this isn’t unique to him, because it applies to all of us — is *how *& choosing *when *to approach engaging & defending of the Faith with prudent judgment. That isn’t something not many of us can claim we have mastered!

So really all this talk about charity is just based on personal preference , not TRUE adherence to example shown by the saints imitation of Christ. It’s all “*My idea of charity. My COMFORT ZONE of Charity. My assumption of Virtue in the 21st century which is not offending anybody!” *

I say let him be, if you truly believe he is undermining the Church or uncharitable. Maybe you’re not praying hard enough for others to grow in Charity! Don’t you think God will reproach him and his apostolate? And they will be chastised and encounter problems more and more? Why waste time slamming people who like RCTV and Voris. Why not just pray for Michael Voris & the misguided folks at RCTV, and the Catholics on here who aren’t averse to it. Instead assuming you must say "You stay away from them because I said so! "

Goodness, Veridical, if I was MV, I would rush to put you on the payroll as an advertising specialist!!! You have a very aggressive flair for putting others down when they express their opinion - yet we are supposed to accept yours as being superior. My, my - what a mirror. 😉

The “shock value” of RCTV exists because it tries to convey the unvarnished truth: something most Catholics aren’t used to. The news and editorials on the site do not disparage the clergy, they simply report on what some bishops and priests are in fact doing–in the “name” of Catholicism, and often to its detriment. Sure, the editorial style may not be to everyone’s liking, but that is RCTV’s option, and I think it is done that way to make people uncomfortable enough to–excuse me–get off their duffs and do something. Faithful Catholics should be outraged when bishops and priests openly promote evil and scandal. And to do nothing in the face of clerical sin–including deliberately choosing to remain ignorant–may itself constitute a sinful act or attitude of omission.

For example, my diocese will be hosting a “gay and lesbian” conference next month, during which the bishop will celebrate Mass, and I’m willing to bet that it won’t be aimed at calling people to repentance from the active homosexual lifestyle either. These are the facts. It has nothing to do with my not being “nice” or “hurting someone’s feelings”. This is simply the kind of scandal and evil that is being promoted by the very men who are ordained and commanded to teach and guard the Faithful.

To pretend that this sort of thing is not happening is to live and promote a falsehood. And to sit by and passively allow it to happen is truly uncharitable, because the souls of our brothers and sisters are in peril. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, whose cause for beatification is currently being advanced, admonished the laity to take an active role in promoting the Catholic Faith, that a time would come when the laity could not passively rely on the clergy to promote and preserve the Faith, and even that the laity must take the initiative and the responsibility to ensure that the clergy remain faithful. By the looks of things today, his admonition has proven prophetic.

God permitted the wolves at the door from the sins of the Church, nothing will be concealed or hidden; and the bishops that didn’t listen hurt the Church with their actions.
Good point! The secular media was sent in to clean up the mess that the bishops by-and-large had failed to act upon or even acknowledge–after it was allowed to go on for decades.

Honestly, your post sound like you been reading to many conspiracy web sites. Thus my comment. What you wright is way off base. Those who want to continually criticize our bishops and our church in the name of some unknown truth that they claim to posses do more damage to the faith than good. They then become the true enemies of the church.
Voris is unable to get approval from his ordinary for what he is doing. That 's not the Church trying to suppress him, that is the Church pointing out that what he is doing does not fall within the teaching of the Church, there are questions. He has the right to say what every he wants, but not using the term Catholic in his site.
The Church gets enough bashing from the secular community, we certainly don’s need it from those who claim to loyal Catholics as well.

As far as I can tell, Voris has never sought approval from his bishop for what he is doing. It’s not as though he tried to get approval and failed.

Certainly, Canon Law outlines the various procedures in place for establishing a bona fide Catholic apostolate in cooperation with the local diocese. But no Catholic group is required to go that route if (for whatever reason) they think it best not to.

Most of the statements I have seen from the hierarchy with regards to Voris is simply them acknowledging this fact that his group is not officially connected to any diocese (excepting Scranton).

That is not correct, Joe. Here is the actual letter from the Diocese. It is a form letter that is given to any who inquire about RCTV. So going back to 2006, they have certainly had more than ample time to come into compliance. Obviously, there are issues that they refuse to cooperate with.

Regarding St. Michael’s Media, RealCatholicTV.com** **

**“In 2006, St. Michael’s Media of Ferndale, Michigan, through its chief executive, Michael Voris, and his associates, **requested approval of its apostolate and programming from the Archdiocese of Detroit. The Detroit archdiocese responded to their initial submission and gave them direction as to the additional information and steps that would need to be taken. At issue was, and is, compliance with our basic archdiocesan media protocols and those of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). While there have been some discussions, the matter with St. Michael’s Media remains unresolved; it is not an approved apostolate. **

“In 2008, a Web-based video provider named RealCatholicTV.com was launched, with Michael Voris as the primary host, producer-writer and manager, utilizing new and archive program material produced and provided, primarily, by St. Michael’s Media. The RealCatholicTV enterprise has yet to present itself or receive approval of its apostolate and programming from the Detroit archdiocese.

“Therefore, the catechetical presentations, the analysis of Catholic teachings or positions, and the commentary on Church leadership presented by St. Michael’s Media and/or RealCatholicTV— be they audio, video, or exclusively Web-based— cannot be approved or endorsed by the archdiocese at this time.”

You are absolutely right! I mis-typed what I was thinking I meant to say that I do not complain to them, and in the context of the conversation I am sure you will see that it makes more sense. The issue was why wasn’t these complaints being given to RCTV. Thus, I do not complain* to* them. As far as complaining about them, yes, I can see how any opinion expressed can be viewed as a complaint. Thank you for catching this.
