Another important book is:
" MOTHER ANGELICA: THE REMARKABLE STORY of a Nun, Her Nerve, and a Network of Miracles" by Raymond Arroyo.
Through hours of interviews with Mother Angelica EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo brings to light her path from Canton, Ohio, to the Bible Belt, to the perilous heights of television fame when she founded EWTN… Discover how she overcame numerous obstacles through the guidance of God.

You will see that some Bishops gave Mother Angelica a difficult time.
Again, all Ordinaries are not the same.

EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) is not financially supported by the Church, the USCCB, or a Diocese.
It is completely supported by the donations of individuals. There are no advertizers.

Pope John Paul II gave Mother a Monstrance used on EWTN.

I really think we need someone that is willing to call the bishops on the carpet! Michael Voris is willing to do that. Sirach whats your beef you get off your high horse!😃
“Calling bishops on the Carpet” is not his role. It causes decent in the church and misunderstanding. Much more harm from his action than good. Who made Voris the judge and jury as to waht is true? Only himself.

Be careful.
The USCCB is NOT the Magisterium of the Church.
The USCCB is not the Church. Voris never said he does not answer to the Church, and appears very very faithful to the Pope and Magisterium.
The USCCB is supposed to exist to assist all US Bishops. Unfortunately in the US the USCCB committees and staff does not always do so - such as giving Catholic donation money to pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage groups in the recent past (until 2010), and supporting fake global warming issues.
calcatholic.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?id=1207aa04-d9db-4037-b96b-70e09da9026e

The same is true of the USCCB and immigration - the Pope stated: “States have the right to regulate migration flows and to defend their own frontiers, always guaranteeing the respect due to the dignity of each and every human person. Immigrants, moreover, have the duty to integrate into the host country, respecting its laws and its national identity.”
catholicnewsagency.com/news/pope-stresses-unity-of-global-human-family-as-theme-of-upcoming-migrants-day/

Pope Benedict has called upon each of us to evangelize to the best of our ability. “Pope Benedict stressed the urgency of evangelizing modern society, saying that Christians today face the task of reaching a world that grows increasingly apathetic to the message of the Gospel.”
catholicnewsagency.com/news/crisis-of-indifference-shows-need-for-new-evangelization-pope-says/

I have never heard Voris or RealCatholicTV say or do anything in violation of the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.

By using this media (provided by CA) we are all evangelizing. That is why we must insure we are being truthful - which means adhereing to the CCC.
Note: the CCC has a section on TRUTH and also using the MEDIA.

And how do we each know we are hearing the “truth” ? - By reading the “CCC 2nd Ed” - a great gift from the Magisterium.
Anne you need to be careful. Who do you think make up the USCCB?
The CC stand for Catholic Bishops and YES they are part of the Magisterium and YES documents issued by them are binding on us as Catholic in the United States. These conferences were set up as part of Vatican II . These are our ordinaries making decisions and to attack them is as wrong as attacking the pope.

The other accusations your are making are also false. They was not support for pro abortion organizations, and the chuch has long taught on stuardship of the planet. The bishops have not taught anything thast is contrary to the pope’s message. You need to read deeper into the Church’s Social Justice documents to see what more it says about rich nations taking care of the poor ones, and on human dignaty.

Yes we are to evangelize. But how can you evengelize out of one side of your mouth to be Catholic and out of the other attack the Sheperds of the Church. This idea is thast all things are strickly from Rome is wrong and has never been the case. Your Local ordianry is the teacher for the Church, if you are ignoring what he says you are ignoring the Magisterium.

All Ordinaries (Bishops) are not the same. Human beings make errors.
This is happening now, by some Bishops allowing Catholic Politicians to receive Holy Communion while in a known State of Mortal Sin - politicians supporting abortion, supporting homosexual marriage, publically living in sin through adultary or fornication, etc.,all of which support the grave sin of SCANDAL.
This is a clear violation of Code of Canon Law 915.
" Can. 915 Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion. "

Read “Catholicism for Dummies” by Fathers John Trigilio and Kenneth Brighenti, which has a Nihil Obstat and an Imprimatur.
It has a section on historical corruption in the Church.

And directly from the “Catechism of the Catholic Church Second Edition” - - - -
CCC - " 2467 Man tends by nature toward the truth.
He is obliged to honor and bear witness to it: "It is in accordance with their dignity that all men, because they are persons . . . are both impelled by their nature and bound by a **moral obligation to seek the truth, **especially religious truth.
They are also bound to adhere to the truth once they come to know it and direct their whole lives in accordance with the demands of truth. "
IF there are issues with the local ordianary, there are proper channels to be followed to Rome. The proper channel is not some guy giving his opinion on the internet and calling it the “truth”.

Hello All,

As one who works for CatholicTV, I can honestly say that we air nothing that is contrary to the faith and strive to bring programs that will enhance one’s should. Coming this fall we have some great new programs including 'Gospel of Mark: The Perilous Journey”. There is also ‘Conversations with Cardinal Sean’. Jay Fadden the general manager of CatholicTV sits down and talks with arch-bishop of Boston.

There is ‘One Billion Stories’, a new original Catholic TV series that highlights the unique journey of Seth DeMoor. Immediately following his graduation from the University of Colorado Seth made his way to Florida for a catholic men’s conference, and from there biked his way home to Denver. He was not alone on the road, he had his faith and a video camera. Seth then took to the task of getting a story of faith from every Catholic he met that would talk to him. The result is a rich and inspiring show full of the real life stories of follow Catholics and their experiences with God.

We also have returning favorites including ‘We’ve Got to Talk’. This program has been on CatholicTV for the last 20 years. Fr. Dan O’Connell relates stories of his life to the gospel. He usually opens with a 2 minute video skit and draws the viewer into a catechetical world. There is also WOW: The CatholicTV Challenge, in which the president of the CatholicTV network, Fr. Robert Reed, quizzes 3rd graders about the Catholic faith.

Check out these programs on www.catholictv.com and see all the great programming for yourself.

Sounds as though you are doing the proper evangelization using media.

Sounds as though you are doing the proper evangelization using media.
Thanks! We are really striving to do so. We’ve been very good at trying to produce programs that inspire and at times challenge.

We also air a good number of bishop ordinantions on our channel as well. We have Mass on 3 times a day as well as the Rosary 3 times a day and the chaplet of divine Mercy every day at 3. We also carry the papal audience every week. You can also watch WYD on our station all this week.

A number of some of our program comes from other dioceses. We can programs from New Jersey, Louisanna, and the Spanish Mass from San Antonio Texas.

We also air programs from the wonderful Word on Fire ministries. Word on Fire is a perfect example of how one Catholic apostlate is trying to use media to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. Fr. Robert Barron, head of WOF is not afraid to tackle the tough questions and is very catechetical.

I don’t want to go on a long plug for my station so I’ll end it here. When I saw the topic I just needed to respond. I hope some of you who watch EWTN and Real Faith will check out CatholicTV as well.

NET NY, Telecare, and Salt and Light in Canada are still some more Catholic Television stations that are out there. There is room for more then one Catholic TV station.

FAB When the Bishops are doing things that are contrary to what the Church teaches we have every right to call them out. In fact its because some of the Bishops silence or lack of teaching that has got us into this mess. I listen to the Pope and the Magisterium in Rome, as long as the Bishops teach the same thing its all good…when they don’t, I’m gonna say so! There is an article in CatholicCulture.org that talks about. “How the Boston archdiocese helped bring contraception to Massachusetts” catholicculture.org/commentary/otn.cfm?id=812&repos=6&subrepos=5&searchid=775345. Are we not allowed to bring these things to light when our Bishop’s stray? Michael Voris is only doing the same thing. Maybe they won’t approve him because he does speak up.

Stmykearchangel:
When the Bishops are doing things that are contrary to what the Church teaches we have every right to call them out.
As FAB mentioned, there are proper procedures in place to report abuse. However, with respect to Bishops, read Canon Law:
§3. Judgment of the following is reserved to the Roman Rota:
1/ bishops in contentious matters, without prejudice to the prescript of [⇒ (http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_P5C.HTM#7.1.0.2.1.1.1419) can. 1419, §2

No one has the right to stand on a street corner with a megaphone and air what THEY believe is a failing on the part of any Bishop, let alone on world-wide internet.
  • Who appointed Michael Voris judge of our bishops?
  • Where is his authority to disseminate detraction of the bishops’ character?
  • What can the laity who listen to his broadcasts possibly hope to accomplish, given they MIGHT believe his opinion?
  • What will come of the dissension and lack of faith in the hierarchy that he incites among the faithful who fall for his statements?
  • Does he believe railing against them will cause unity? harmony? devotedness? fidelity? increase in virtue?
With respect to your link, the comment following the article is excellent:

“I wonder: Is the narrative proposed by the author actually TRUE? The principles of the narrative - Cushing, Sagoff, and Lally - are long deceased, and they are unable to confirm or deny events. Personally, I often take anything coming out of Boston College that doesn’t have the name “Peter Kreeft” on it with a big grain of salt. And I’m a B.C. graduate.”

This thread is not about Cardinal Cushing; therefore, your citing another author’s article about a bishop as a corollary to vindicate Michael Voris’ actions is a very weak effort that fails to convince. Canon Law overrides any attempt of a lay person to villify a bishop in public.

I call to your mind the example of David in the OT whose very life was pursued by King Saul. Yet David refused to lift a hand against him in his own defense, because Saul was “the Lord’s anointed.” It was forbidden then, as it is now. Read my earlier post from St. Catherine of Siena.

[You like my high horse, huh? From the vantage point In my saddle is where “lies and falsehoods are trapped and exposed.” 😃 ]

Anne 2:
You will see that some Bishops gave Mother Angelica a difficult time.Again, all Ordinaries are not the same.
Nevertheless, did you ever hear of Mother A. publicly denouncing them with language unbecoming a religious? Never! She was a wonderful example of obedience – and note well, her apostolate was APPROVED by the Bishop, albeit with certain restrictions he put upon her. She complied.
EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) is not financially supported by the Church, the USCCB, or a Diocese.
It is completely supported by the donations of individuals. There are no advertizers.
Is your point perhaps that she is not affiliated with any of these you mentioned? She’s independent, unaccountable? Mother is a Poor Clare, which explains perfectly her total reliance on Divine Providence, as established in their Constitutions. Naturallly, she would not solicit funds. Can we say the same of other apostolates, whose name I won’t mention?

You sound so very scholarly wow you must be a Canon lawyer Sirach, or at least pretend to be… I don’t pretend to be anything I’m just a regular Joe Catholic that is on fire with love of my faith, and hates to see what has happened to it. I pray Michael Voris continues to speak out against abuses in the Church by “some” Bishops. If you are saying that supporting and defending RealCatholic tv is wrong then so be it I am willing to accept it. 😛 Dude get a life!

Sweetie, I’m no canon lawyer, but I am 72 years old, been a Catholic from birth, and at this ripe old age, very few can pull the proverbial wool over my eyes. 😉
I know my faith well.
I’m just a regular Joe Catholic that is on fire with love of my faith, and hates to see what has happened to it.
You are not alone, and I think that explains my inner zeal as well. Psalm 69:9, “Zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult You, fall on me.”
When anyone insults a bishop or cleric, whether he is right or wrong, true or false, I take it very personally, and I feel certain it is the Spirit in me who grieves at the insults that are levied at His anointed.

I think your last post will bring us to a point of serenity regarding each other’s P.O.V. May we ask the Lord to help us “accept the things we cannot change, change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” I trust you are able to continue any further discussions without resorting to street language? Or are you too young to understand respect?

Peace in Christ.

I am unaware of any rule that requires a layman to be silent without diocesan approval, or that all Catholic sites mus have approval. I think your logic is flawed here. Just because there is a way for a person to receive this approval, does not mean that he must, or even should. I just says that those who have sought it are valid apostolates. No more.

I would be interested to know if there is any substance behind this alleged regulation. Have you ever seen it? I can find nothing remotely suggesting this.
Time for a reversal. It seems that Sirach did provide the mandate that I did not know exist.

vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decree_19651118_apostolicam-actuositatem_en.html
Whether the lay apostolate is exercised by the faithful as individuals or as members of organizations, it should be incorporated into the apostolate of the whole Church according to a right system of relationships. Indeed, union with those whom the Holy Spirit has assigned to rule His Church (cf. Acts 20:28) is an essential element of the Christian apostolate…No project, however, may claim the name “Catholic” unless it has obtained the consent of the lawful Church authority.
So, if one is to use the name “Catholic” in one’s title (as Real** Catholic** TV does), then you must be approved. Therefore, this group is operating in contradiction to Catholic teaching. Perhaps they can do an expose on themselves. Or better yet, perhaps if they were to remove their own beam, they might see better to remove the motes of others.

I apologize, FAB, and thanks Sirach.

It is also our responsibilty to follow the rules of the church. There are regulations for any Catholic group that wants to teach to word, and they come from the ordianry who is charged by the Church for teaching the Catholic faith.
This site does not have approval from the ordinary of the Diocese of which theyn are located. By that reason alone they not teaching the TRUTH, and until and if they get ssuch approval, shouold not be followed.
Are you suggesting that each of us - who identify ourselves as ‘Catholic’ on Catholic Answers web site get permission from our Diocese?
Each of us is using the media to “teach”.
Further, there have been errors propogated by some who write on Catholic web sites. They do not follow the teachings in the “CCC 2nd Ed”.

If you are aware of violations of the teachings of the Pope or Magisterium, by RCTV - please let us all know.
Just like that provided by RCTV, I appreciate documentation. Links will be fine. Thanks.

The citation only applies to groups. Catholic Answers has followed the proper process and has received diocesan approval.

The road to Hell is paved with the bones of priests and monks, and the skulls of bishops are the lamp posts that light the path. - St. John Chrysostom

Maybe we should de-canonize St. John Chrysostom for his “attacks” on the clergy. : )

[sign1]Off topic, Pataburd[/sign1]

And if history is reliable, the moderator will be deleting this, as she has done with other irrelevant posts. Meanwhile, please accept my follow-up to “expose and trap lies and falsehoods.” This saying has never been proved to come from St. John Chrysostom.
A corrupt Episcopalian bishop included in the comments a quote ascribed to John Chrysostom, which is found in various forms around the web, but always without attribution. [attribution means no directly quoted reference tracing it to him]

But did he say it? There seems to be some knowledge of a context that Chrysostom was commenting on the fewness of those known as Christians who will be saved:
Hell paved with the skulls of priests (Vol. iv, p. 484) – The French priest referred to in this query had most probably quoted, at second or third hand, and with rhetorical embellishment–certainly not from the original direct – an expression of St. Chrysostom in his third homily on the Acts of the Apostles:
"I know not if there be many in the riesthood who are saved, but I know that many more perish." (Pg. 92)
Looks like we won’t have to de-canonize him, huh? I’m more concerned about your repeating a third-hand false statement of a Doctor of the Church to justify you-know-who’s wrongful actions. An article from Canon Law yesterday was removed, but applies very well here, to show that nobody has the authority or right to pronounce judgment on a Bishop, other than the Holy See. Let me know if you need the specific citation.

Incidentally, the moderator agreed that this content was against forum rules and removed the entire thread on this previously.

He was speaking or clergy that was corrupt. Only in the minds of a few does anyone see our clergy in the same way. Just because a bishop does not do what your think they should does not make them corrupt. You need instead to understand the pastoral reasons for their actions before condemning them.

The difference being, of course, that St. John Chrysostom was himself a bishop. 😛

Protestants also spoke of the corruption of the bishops during the Reformation. Michael Voris’ tactics make him no closer to a saint than a Protestant. It is the same logic either way. If you accept he is like St Chrysostom of St. Athanasius, or any other saint, you have not complaint if others compare him to a Protestant. It is better to avoid this line of thinking all together, follow the rules of the Church for a Catholic apostolate and then let those that like him listen to him and those that don’t turn it off.
