Katherine2: What do you mean by W’s financial backers? Is that remark supposed to be connected to Moyers?

Why does it seem that the only way libs can get their message across is to have it funded by the government? If Moyers actually had to attract advertisers (i.e. be forced to compete), he would not have made a dime. Take a look at Air America…liberal messages, but a total failure on the brink of bankruptcy. Why? Nobody cares about their message.

Conservative talk show hosts seem to do very well in competition. Liberals fail miserably…why do you think the Libs in congress are trying to resurrect the “Fairness Doctrine”, whereby radio stations that present conservative talk show hosts would be forced (Fascism anyone?) to have equal time for liberal talk show hosts.

Face it libs: nobody cares about your message!!!
Actually, Air America radio is doing quite well now, they are adding stations all the time, unlike when they 1st started out, when they did indeed almost crash and burn.
My goodness, could it be that americans are actually becoming more interested in something other than the RW spin offered by talk radio and the MSM? Lordy, Lord, maybe there is still some hope for this country…

Peace!

BTW, Shock, just because you are not interested in more than one side of a story, doesn’t mean that everyone else feels the same way.

There are no donors, individual or corporate, to the GOP who give as much as George Soros, Steve Bing, Peter Lewis, the Sandlers, Fred Eychaner, Haim Saban, and Bernard Schwartz give to Democrats. Not even close.

Last year the first five listed above gave over $78 million to John Kerry 527s. That is more than either candidate got in matching funds. The Swift Boats Vets, with over 120,000 individual donations still didn’t raise as much money as George Soros gave.

Check out Bing. He put on the rock tour for Kerry. A real sweetheart of a guy.

GOP is built on $2,000 and under contributors. That is the bulk of Republican money. Democrats are the party of the super-rich.

From Moonbat Central:

Who are the Soros 70?

In an earlier post, we noted the coalescence of a new node in the Soros network–an assemblage of 70 radical millionaires and billionaires calling themselves the Phoenix Group.

The group met to discuss strategy under tight security in Scottsdale, Arizona the weekend of April 16-17, at a meeting organized by Democrat strategist and fundraiser Rob Stein, according to a report in The Hill . . .

Moonbat Central hereby issues an appeal to citizen journalists throughout the land to help us in this urgent investigation. Please send us any and all information at your disposal that might shed light on the identity of the Soros Seventy.

Our freedom depends on it.
:whacky: :banghead:

Peace.

And most liberals think Joe Lieberman is a conservative.

7 in 10 newspeople vote democrat. AT LEAST.
No, actually most liberals think that Joe Lieberman is an opportunist who will go wherever he thinks the political wind is blowing. He certainly isn’t a man who would stand by his principles in the way that, let’s say Paul Wellstone (God rest his soul) did.
It doesn’t matter what individual newspeople vote for. What matters is how their employers/censors vote and/or think, and let’s face it, that isn’t “Democrat”.

Peace.

Yeah, Paul Wellstone was more than willing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with NARAL Pro-choice America and other baby-killers. I am quite in favor of people who stand by their principles, but they have to be the right principles.

And AIR AMERICA is down in almost every market. It is now being sued for failing to pay its talent. The only reason AIR AMERICA exists is so that Stewart Smalley can run for Senate.

Ahh, now I have read vastly different reports on the financial and popular solvency of AAR.
Anyway, what Wellstone stood for, beside the well-being of the less fortunate, was the “law of the land”, which unfortunately includes Roe v. Wade. I personally do not agree with abortion, but since it is the law, until it is (hopefully) changed, that is the way things are.
In all honesty, I have yet to meet a single person, even among the most radically liberal of my acquaintances that is “pro-abortion”. “Pro-choice” yes, but not pro-abortion. Despite what many would say, as far as I’m concerned there is truly a difference.

Peace.

Paul Wellstone didn’t care about those less well off. He was a Red Diaper Baby; his father a follower of Trotsky. He knew his socialist schemes would do nothing to help anyone but a select elite. His goal was the destruction of traditional America. Not a fan of the Christian faith either. As all Red Diaper Babies, he saw it as the font of all evil.

His views on abortion weren’t because of “the law of the land”. All those as far left as Wellstone support abortion because it keeps people down, undermines morals, is the ultimate anti-family measure and thereby eats away at the foundations of civilization itself.

They do, after all, have a great vision of the wonderful world we will enjoy once they are finished wrecking this one.

What does this “choice” involve? The intentional killing of a child. Pro-choice means pro-abortion. The way the abortion lobby speaks, I am an “anti-choice” extremist. If they equate anti-choice with pro-life, I have nothing to do but equate pro-choice with pro-abortion.

There is no difference, especially since the end result is the same.

Recent news stories I have read suggest otherwise…employees failing to get paid, low ratings, etc. I don’t think they are on the road to success any time soon.

I don’t think any of my posts have said that I am not interested in hearing both sides of a story. What I said was, nobody cares about the liberal message. If they did, ratings of these liberal news outlets would be much higher.

Just how long do you think liberal talk show hosts can craft a show around the message “Hey, you don’t pay enough in taxes”?
I also think people get tired of the likes of Al Franken trying to draw moral equivalencies between Bush and Saddam Hussein, or come up with wild conspiracy theories about how Bush was in on 9-11, because he needed it to look good. Or the one about how Diebold helped steal the election because of there voting machines. People want to hear open and honest debate, all you get from liberals these days is nothing but name calling (Harry Reid calling Bush a “loser”), and obstructionism. If the libs actually had a message, perhaps more people might be interested in listening. Until then, they will try to craft legislation (Fairness Doctrine) trying to FORCE people to listen to them.

Heehee. Conservatives think the same thing about John McCain.

Really, liberals couldn’t get behind Joe (an ex VP candidate for goodness sake!) in '04 because he supported the war. In the face of his far-leftist base, I’d say that was pretty principled.

ABSOLUTELY FALSE.

If the employers are all conservative, why aren’t their more anti-abortion exposees on?? Why all the doom and gloom and mistrust about anything military?? Why are most Christains portrayed in movies or prime time as hypocrites, bumbling fools, weak abusers, and when portrayed in a “good” light, they’re liberal??? Homosexuals: good. Heterosexuals: sex crazy. Single: sexy glam. Married: hodgepog resigned. Dads: overweight fools. Moms: sexpots. Children: smarter than dad. Villianous terrorists: white, maybe ex-military.

The highest grossing films of all time are familiy movies with traditional good guys vs bad guys themes with little language and no sex. THAT makes money.

And how naive of you to suggest that the messages broadcast in movie theatres or on the boob tube are just about money and aren’t a social commentary or promote a certain worldview of the “artists” who create them.

Hmmm… looking at IMDB’s list of top-grossing films in the US, Titanic is at #1. Now, the only portion of that movie I’ve seen myself involved Kate Winslet’s chest (but what a nice chest it was!), but it would not seem to fit your criteria.

Further down the list, Forrest Gump is at #13, and I seem to remember quite a bit of foul language in that movie. #24 and #25 are The Matrix Reloaded and Meet the Fockers – not very family friendly.

And yet, in this post, you stated,
Corporations didn’t put their advertizing dollars into the TV and Radio broadcasts or internet websites becasue they want to push and certain agenda. NO! They just want to CAPITALIZE on the viewer or listenership, potential customers for their product and service.
It is, indeed, all about money.

So I would suppose that liberal news & entertainment is wholesome?

You call it trash just because you disagree with the viewpoint of the speakers?

This particular attitude you have is similar to that held by liberal news and talk. This is what helps to contribute to the success of convervative news and talk.
I make no apologies. I considered describing here some of th trash that appears on FOX TV and quickly realized the moderators would not allow it on a Catholic board – lewd, suggestive, immoral, violent, degrading filth.

Defend FOX if you want. I will have no part of it.

rather than dispute you on all or part of the above, let us notice what is missing. Even a hioghly regarded conservative commentator like yourself doesn’t name a single issue of economic justice in your litany.

When was the last time the New York Times editorized in favor of a strike?

What is the Washington Post’s editorial policy on fair trade?

When has the Chicago Tribune every said workers have the right to join a labor union?

You mention 1 movie in the first 10, and 2 total in the first 20. Hardly a good argument.

The *Star Wars *and LOTR sagas have violence, but not sex or drugs. *Nemo *and Lion King are rated (G). The *Passion *was (R), but you know what that was about, and liberals hated it.
And how naive of you to suggest that the messages broadcast in movie theatres or on the boob tube are just about money and aren’t a social commentary or promote a certain worldview of the “artists” who create them.
Ah, you mix apple with oranges I think. Let me talk (write)this through out loud:

Corporations that hawk products and services in conjunction of movies, sitcoms, radioshows, sports programming, etc care about reaching an audience, warm bodies, demographics. they ARE money focused. Do they care, in their marketing research WHAT message is being broadcast by the entertainers??? Sure, to a certain extent. Beer and car commercials with bikini-clad women run during the football game, not during the Oprah show. Feminine products are advertized during soap operas.

So, corporations do consider message. But it is entirely based on popularity and profit, not political worldview. They back a winner, conservative message or liberal message, it does not matter as long as the demographic they are targeting is reached.

BUT the producors, actors, directors, writers of Hollywood put out a BUNCH of cr*p. They are ALL about their “creative expression”, their “art”, their communication of a vision, “the way we see it”.

“The way they see it” is that homosexuality is normal, and fun.

“The way they see it” is that abortion (Vera Drake) and euthansia (Milion Dollar Baby) is necessary.

“The way they see it” is that marriage sorta sucks, kids know more than parents, casual sex is glamourous and has little consequence, thuggery is cool, etc etc.

“The way they see it” is that Mel Gibson was on his own.

Corporations only see the demographic that will buy *their *product, not necessarily agreeing with the message of the vehicle they are tying their wagon to.

What would happen if Hollywood decided to just make family-friendly entertainment??? What would advertising look like???

But you agree with my analysis in general of the TV news and entertainment industries, no??

As to the specific news items in those specific newspapers, I have no idea. I would venture a guess, and it is only a guess, that the NYT would favor any strike, regardless of the circumstances. The WaPo might come down on both sides of the argument. The Tribune?? Dunno, Chicago is a union thug town. Probably not in favor of right-to-work.

If their vision were not profitable, they would never receive funding.

If the mainstream movie companies decided to only make family-friendly entertainment from now on, I have no doubt that other companies would quickly move in to capitalize on the public’s lust for blood and boobies.
