I’m sure this is nothing new, and I’ve tolerated this for some time, it is just now occurring to me how rude cell-phone usage is sometimes.
So I was chatting w/ one of my coworkers yesterday when she gets a call on her phone. Naturally I (and our conversation) am immediately dismissed in order for her to take her phone call. HOW RUDE!!!
This is personal peave of mine that these things are even allowed in the workplace. We used to have somewhat of a policy about keeping phones on vibrate and then only taking calls on breaks, but that is completely out the window. Now, whenever our supervisor is away from her desk, we get to hear her phone ringing, and ringing and ringing. And then the interim missed call ‘beep’ every few minutes.
Why do people treat EVERY phone call as an emergency? Don’t people realize there’s a feature that tells you that you’ve missed a call and logs the number for you to call back?
I had a cell phone when I was a teenager and I was one of those who just always had to be on it. I have since parted ways with this bit of technology and life is much simpler - you would be amazed how rushed these things can make you feel. Getting ahold of someone for even the most trifle thing becomes a life or death issue and people get so flustered!
DH wants to get a texting feature/service on his next phone and I’m thinking, great, you really need one more techie distraction from the real live people in your house (us, his family). I can see our kids one day calling him from their cell phone to his from their backseats in the car just to talk to him!!!
What is up w/ this??? Don’t even get me started about parents letting their kids have cell phones at school where they’re texting w/ their hands and phones in their pockets!!! I am totally w/ Dr.Ray on this - BIG NO-NO!
