The cartoon photo kind of reminds me of Fran Drescher from ‘The Nanny’ TV show back in the day.

At the time I chose the name, I was in a flower-themed mood.
My forum names tend to be flower, pet, or street-I-once-lived-on themed.

My “face” is Brenda Chance from Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels.
If you’re of a certain age you’ll recognize that reference.

I learn something new every day.

Now it makes a lot more sense for me than it did before, kind of like watching a puzzle on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ when all the rest of the letters get filled in that I didn’t know previously to reveal the puzzle’s meaning.

By the way, you were one of the ones I was most hoping would share because I was very intrigued by your user name.

M for Mary, Nathaniel because a religious sister once said I reminded her of Nathaniel (from the gospel of John).

I like the idea of being named by others and found that honouring, so… there we go! I’m a lady though; don’t know if people sometimes think otherwise, since ‘Nathaniel’ is a male name.

Haven’t got a customized icon simply because I don’t tend to customize icons on these sites. I like that others do, but I’m prone to getting over attached to digital media so try to avoid little details like that, that might make me more attached to a digital forum than I should be.

Thanks for clarifying, Mary. I believe Nathanael was the disciple of whom Jesus said had no deceit or guile, if I’m not mistaken. If that’s the case, that’s a big compliment for you from the sisters. Thank you for sharing.

In the NABRE, John 1:47:

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him.”

I love that passage, and hope that when Jesus sees me coming, he will say “Here is a true Christian…”

Yes, she was being very kind and her intention was as you described: she perceived me as being without guile and was praising that.

😊

It’d be funny if she meant it in the negative though: Like if she thought of me as the sort of person who says: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” 😄

I hope she didn’t mean that. 😀. That sounds more like bluntness to me. I had an aunt who was very blunt. She passed away at age 99 and 9 months. She was honest and was a “tell it like it is” kind of person. The good part is that you always knew where she stood on issues.

Example:
I used to do occasional odd jobs for Aunt Vera. Once, she wanted me to do something that I was unqualified to do. When I told her I wasn’t able to do it and didn’t feel comfortable attempting it, she said, “OK. You’d better not do it then. I don’t want a half-a$$ job done on it”.

I suspect that Nathanael probably would’ve been more polite than that 😀

Haha no, she definitely didn’t mean it like that, I just enjoy the joke.

She was quite clear in the moment that she meant it as praise for reminding her of Nathaniel in whom Jesus saw no guile. Honestly though even in the moment I couldn’t remember what we’d talked about, that would’ve been the reason she said this. We’d spent all day together doing various physical chores (cleaning a bathroom, digging rocks out of soil to make room for new trees to be planted), and I guess we were gradually talking throughout, but I don’t remember about what in particular. Ongoing life things, I’d have thought. Anyway, it was truly a precious moment that I couldn’t place the exact reason for, when at the end of the day she lingered at my cabin to tell me so earnestly that I made her think of Nathaniel. It really seemed to mean something to her to say so, and so it really touched me.

Also I apologize if any of this comes off in a self-praising way. 😅 I’m not repeating it to say: “I’m so great!” It was just a really heart-touching moment that this sister chose this specific thing to say to me, and I’m just sharing it here because that was the reason behind the name I’ve gone with online. Also I try to remember that definition of humility being not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less, and delighting like a child in receiving praise given by those from whom it is good to receive praise (something CS Lewis wrote about).

My picture is self explanatory.
Oh my goodness. I won’t say anything directly about that but will say; Pittsburgh teams beat my favorite baseball team twice in the 70’s to win the World Series, and twice in the 70’s to win the Super Bowl. I’d best just move on… lol

Hi (name removed by moderator). Just curious what region of Louisiana is considered “Cajun country” or is it the whole state?

If I figured this out correctly…the Orioles and Cowboys, right?

How could an Orioles fan not be a Colts fan when it came to the NFL? 🤔

When did they move to Indy? Were the Colts still in Baltimore then? The timing of all that is a bit blurry to me, but I know Colts fans felt betrayed when the Colts bolted Baltimore for Indianapolis for awhile until they got the Ravens franchise. I just lost track of when that was.

The Colts moved to Indianapolis during the night of March 28-29, 1984.

I happened to attend the first home game of the USFL’s Baltimore Stars in the spring of 1985, approximately a year after the team moved. What I remember most about that game was the near-constant chant by the fans…Irsay SUCKS! Irsay SUCKS! Irsay SUCKS!

Ironically, the game wasn’t even in Baltimore; stadium lease issues (and maybe the presence of the Orioles during the spring and summer at Memorial Stadium) couldn’t be worked out, so the Stars played their home games at Byrd Stadium at the University of Maryland in College Park.

The Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens for the 1996 season. The move was announced in November of 1995:

Cleveland Browns relocation controversy - Wikipedia.

As much as the fans in Baltimore hated Robert Irsay, the fans in Cleveland hated Art Modell even more.

As a Lions fan, I can’t relate to teams that left for greener pastures because Detroit has had the Lions continuously since the creation of the NFL.

However, I also cannot relate to teams that win on a consistent basis or go to Super Bowls. 😔

As a lifelong Bears fan…I feel yer pain. Although Da Bears have been to a pair of Super Bowls, there’s been a lot of famine and not much feast. I often say I’ve been with them through thin and thin.

One of the items on my bucket list is to see Da Bears and Packers play. The NFL’s oldest rivalry.

At Solider Field.

In December.

In the snow.

Mud, blood, and beer. Just the way the good Lord intended football to be played.
